  1. Oh, and I also have a compilation from a friend of early Bee Gees tunes, compiled from-- .
  2. They did try too hard to be The Replacements. But that (one) album had some great pop songs in that vein. I don't like anything else that they've done, really, but that one album -- Hold Me Up -- was pretty great. Of course, if you don't like this song, then you disagree with me. Oh well.
  3. I am really looking forward to that Jeff-produced Mavis album that's coming out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAfMh_uLxvU
  4. Hold Me Up was a great record. I think that I was at this show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3b5WHDZYeLc

  6. and... The Milligrams - Take Aurally
  7. I did. It's really nothing much like any other Parliament, is it? More like Funkadelic stuff, or rather, somewhere in between the two. What do you think of it?
  8. Quite possibly. But then, I always thought that this was pretty freaking amazing, too: Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Bongwater, and Bob Weir playing a Roky Erickson song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7mleSvxWqc (Yeah, I think that I've posted this clip before, but it is called for a re-post in this circumstance.)

  10. This was a pretty interesting lineup for that evening: Show 207 The Pixies Sun Ra Syd Straw Arthur Baker Al Green Sister Carol
  11. Yup. That's where I grew up and where I live. It was on late on Sunday nights, though. Which could explain why you missed it... or never even heard of it.
  12. Check out Sanborn getting all John Zorn on us: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BII01gneTU&ob=av2e
  13. And how's this for an odd pairing? Maybe the oddest pairing ever: The Residents and Conway Twitty http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK5qKhPBnlA
  14. A freaking great show! I've already posted the clip somewhere on VC of Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Bongwater, and Bob Weir playing a Roky Erickson song. But here's another great performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC1a5UAWIus I couldn't find the show at Amazon. Does anyone know if it's available at all? I would love to have some of those old shows on DVD. So great.
  15. He was very sick with cancer. When he left work (as a temp), he was pale, wan, and very, very sick. Also headed in for experimental surgery. And none of us ever heard from him again. So we assumed the worst, until about 6 months ago. And -- holy shit -- he's in politics!
  16. They got the wrong Yo La Tengo video. This should have been the pick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtBDlNEME48
  17. Nope. No time, really. I did try once, but just couldn't keep it going. Yup. Pretty much limited to posting on here (and another music board).
  18. Just curious. It's always good to know new places to read about new music.
  19. And so did a lot of my coworkers, with whom he worked a few years ago. God bless him. A really great guy, and very smart, too. Indiana could do a lot worse.
