yo. Did you set up a page at IAC Music? I would love to check out your tunes and add them to the page, but I can't do anything for you until you do.

My suggestion for recording with ProTools: Don't think of the shortcuts as "cheats". Look at all those "cheats" -- the copy and pasting, the ability to move individual notes around -- as another creative tool. There is a lot of cool stuff that you can do with it. For the record that I just finished (that's coming out next month), I used some of that to create loops and then build a drum part in 3-part rounds. [beavis and Butt-Head] It was cool! [/beavis and Butt-Head] Be open to everything at your disposal; it's just another tool, just like the instrument you play.

I'm listening now (I'm only partway through "Between the Lines") and I'm already hearing both Jay Farrar and Sloan influences. Gotta say, them's some pretty nice influences to have. I'll listen to "Zero" and then decide which one to put at the station. Very nice work, Tanner! Just another great VC band, I guess! (Maybe we can share a bill sometime?) EDIT: Added "Between the Lines".

I have a friend who used to play drums with Kim in his old band back here in Chicago. And I've tried to like them, believe me, I've tried; I just don't. Still, it's good news for their fans.

Hey Matty. Really nice tune; I dig it with a big shovel! It's got a good Son Volt feel to it. Added to the station. Todd

Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Beware and, this song o' mine... "New Year's Eve" seems appropriate.

I like the lyrics, insomuch as that they sound like things that a 13-year-old would say, or at least what they would be thinking. Brilliant in that way.

I think I may have to pick that up. Sounds really interesting.

Velvet Crush - Teenage Symphonies To God Definitely drawn in by the album cover. And I have been rewarded by a perfect combo of power pop and Gram Parsons "cosmic music", including a great cover of a semi-pbscure Gene Clark tune. Probably a top-100 record for me. On the other hand, I was completely adverse to this album cover, and even refused to play it when it came up in rotation when I was a college DJ. Based solely on the awful cover: When the music director finally caught me and forced me to play it, I was blown away. LOVE this record!

I saw Dan and Spooner Oldham opening for Nick Lowe, back in 1998 or so. Nick is one of my all-time favorites, so imagine my surprise when I got there, and here is a National Treasure in the opening slot. You all need this record:

Thanks for the link, Tanner. But not having an IAC link kinda defeats the purpose of the thread. Go on and make an IAC page! It doesn't take long. And it doesn't take any money. If you still don't want to, I'll go check out your myspace page sometime when I have time outside of work. But, give it a shot; I'd love to have you up on the page at IAC.

I was at a friend's house last night; he's an audiophile, of sorts. (Has a great stereo that he still wants to upgrade.) Anyway, he put on the 200g vinyl remaster of Neil Young - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere ("I HAVE to play this for you; you NEED to hear how amazing this sounds!) Oh my lord... Best-sounding recording I have ever heard. Easily. Those of you with a great stereo and turntable: get this. I cannot describe how amazing it sounds.

You've posted that Iommi pic. before. And I believe that I expressed my love for it, when you did. It is an amazing shot and I will be happy to vote for it. EDIT: Done.

Hear one over the weekend. So brilliant, that it gives me chills. But the lyrics really suck: Thin Lizzy - The Cowboy Song

I watched the original something like 50 times when I was a kid; twice in the theaters and then just about every time that I could when they played it on HBO. The trailer for the new one... well, who can tell? Looks like the big-budget remake that it is, but that is not going to stop me from seeing it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcBNHZEiX0g Although this Zeus is certainly no Laurence Olivier. (And Perseus is no Harry Hamlin!)

When recording my album, I had my choice of playing either an American Standard or a Mexican Tele. I played them both, and liked the the Mexi way better -- both the way it played and the way it sounded. Don't write off the Mexican-built Fenders. Some of those are pretty great instruments.

The show starts at 8... "The One-Guitar Jamboree" A bunch of singer/songwriters playing a couple of songs, and then handing off the guitar to the next guy/gal. Should be a fun night. If any of you want to come, I'll just be playing a few songs, most likely. But I'll be hanging out for a while.

I was just singing "Crazy Train" to myself this morning and two things occurred to me: 1. The lyrics suck a big bag of wet pubic hair. 2. This is a truly great song, despite that fact. I'm having a hard time thinking of other songs like that, but I'm sure that there are many. Maybe something by The Sweet? T. Rex? (Glam bands seem a likely target crowd.)
