Not much in the culinary world is more sensuous than a grilled polipo (octopus); the crisp, charred exterior; the snap; and then the musky aroma, as you chew. Seriously. I freaking love it. EDIT: And the chef is not only a friend of mine, but we used to be roommates, right out of college. I was waiting tables during my job search, and he was in culinary school, working at a gourmet food shop. I'd come home, and he'd come ack from his job with fresh mussels that he'd steam in white wine, and serve with homemade marinara, a bottle of white wine (or a crisp, bright red), and a baguette, with go

I can't promise that I'll have any leftovers, but I can give you my name to drop at the door, if you go. (Remember, I have 2 good friends there -- one is the GM, and the other is the chef.) Deal? And thanks to any of you who may have voted already. This is Chicago! Vote again!!!

Pixies' Doolittle 20th anniversary tour

Figures. The Aragon is the worst venue in Chicago. -
I hate doing this. But, seeing as how this damn thing is gonna turn into a popularity contest anyway, if you could go to these pages, put an "X" in the box next to each of my songs, and then go hit "SUBMIT VOTES" at the top of the page, that would be cool. My band is called: HOP ON POP My song "Ashes On the Water" is about 1/5 of the way down THIS PAGE. And my songs "Cary's Here" and "C'mon Angel" toward the bottom of THIS PAGE (they're right next to each other). That would be cool. And, all that. This is now the end of this embarrassing thread. I appreciate your help with this. Now

Just a single line here, but it's so powerful, that I think it's worth posting: "The only time that I say 'no' is when they ask me if I've had enough..." -"Cinderella Backstreet" (Peter Laughner)

The live Peter, Bjorn, & John track is incredibly disappointing. I love the song in its better-known incarnation, but this version sounds positively anemic. There is no arrangement. The vocals are weak. And the whistling that is so central to the song sounds like it's being done by an asthmatic 2-year-old. Bummer.

The band, in a nutshell.

I have this album on vinyl: And, I can no longer listen to it, until I get a new stereo with a turntable. *sigh* I saw the guy at a small club in San Diego (The Casbah) and it was one of the most-surprisingly delightful things I have ever witnessed. A multimedia extravaganza. So freaking cool. Anyway, any fans here? Any recommendations as to which other albums of his are worthwhile? Anyone else seen him live?

My friend is the chef, and my other friend is the GM/somellier. Menu at the web site, here. I am so looking forward to this!

The more I listen to this mix, the more I think it's kinda a mess. You see, THIS is why I post these things on the internet before I'm sure they're ready. The sound of the stream is sufficiently different that it allowed me to hear things that I hadn't heard before. I took my notes, removed the song, and am taking it back for remixing. Not so sure that I would have heard these things without the streaming audio available.

Hope you like it: "Im Pathetic" With Jonathon Newby (Brazil) on ALL vocals. He also contributed a great vocal arrangement, as well. Thanks, Jon! I'll keep this one up for only a couple of days (of course) — just want to get a listen to the mix from another perspective. And, of course hear what y'all think, as well. I like the feedback (both positive and negative, as long as it's constructive). Thanks. Also with Nils St. Cyr (Urge Overkill/Nash Kato) on lead guitars. Hope you listen and like.

I saw Fishbone on The Tonight Show back in college. It was surreal, but it really happened. I even emailed the band a couple of years later, to make sure that I saw what I saw (it was during the CARSON) years. Got an email back from Norwood, confirming that they were, in fact, on The Tonight Show. But that Johnny was out that night, and Leno was guest hosting. it can happen.
