I'm guessing that Dondante is quite a bit younger than you (or me). To him (her?) that is Classic Rock, of sorts. Hell, it's almost 20 years ago that stuff came out. I'm not much of a fan either. But perspective does shape taste and opinions.

My favorite R.E.M. album. My old cassette copy has gone bye-bye; so my wife and I are both also looking forward to this reissue! Turn the kids on to some classic R.E.M. (And, that phrase still feels a little weird to me - "classic R.E.M." Should be reserved for grandpas like the Rolling Stones or something.)

"Peg" My favorite Dan song. And, that great 2-chord pattern in the verse inspired me to write something similar. (I'm in the midst of recording it now.) Still, that is a motha' of a song. And the drums! Oh, the drums!

And, did anyone mention Johnny Marr (The Smiths)? Not only a great guitarist, but highly influential as a textural player a la The Edge. Only more technically proficient.

I have no access to MySpace, most of the time. I would love to hear your band, though. Do you have another link?

Who played the leads on those classic Squeeze songs? Maybe it was Tillbrook; probably was. But yeah, listen to a lead on "Is That Love?" That is one hell of a solo. And there are other examples, as well.

I think that I'm gonna actually check out their next record, when it comes out. Never thought that I'd say that. Anyway, here is the AMG review, so that you know that I'm not the only one:

Quine is from Richard Hell & the Voidoids. Also plays the lead guitar on the Matthew Sweet song "Girlfriend" and on the Lou Reed record The Blue Mask. Lloyd (and Verlaine) were the guitar players from Television. Lloyd also played with Matthew Sweet. (He was the soloist on "Sick of Myself") Brian May (Queen) Ira Kaplan (Yo La Tengo) And, I think you know the others.

It just seems like, when I make an update about the band or whatever, I do it first at http://iacmusic.com/hoponpop, then Facebook (much later), then MySpace. And then, on top of that, I have a presence at the Spade Kitty site, too. Even bands that are making a name for themselves seem to be keeping their MySpace pages as their main (or sole) web presence. I almost never get to my "official" site to actually add news of any kind. And traffic seems to be dropping. It's almost not even worth it. Is it? What do you think?
