And see? I told you it was going to be a firestorm.

Because W agrees 100% with all his advisors. And he never changes his mind either. Shows strength..... or something.
-
Agreed, but he did have to respond. And the issues behind it all ARE issues.

How many of you go out on WEEKNIGHTS to see bands?
PopTodd replied to PopTodd's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
pardon. I am oversensitive to sarcasm on a relatively new board. Or even to perceived sarcasm. -
I believe that his response speaks to the greater issue: not only of what lies behind the Rev's sermons, but what lies behind the way each of us percieves those comments, and how we can begin to bridge that gap.

Hey now.. I admitted that this was self-promoting! And, I don't play out much at all. In fact, I've only played 2 or 3 club shows in the last 2 years. As far as promoting MIXTAPE -- ain't nothing to promote yet! Just the demos (which I'm giving away, anyway). I just like to get heard. So, feel free to slam me for self-promotion. But, it's not like I don't contribute to the conversation here. And, I don't think that I talk about my own band all that often. Do I? [sarcastic self-pity]If I do... leave me alone!!! I forget things!!! I had brain surgery, you know!!![/sarcastic self-pity] -

Yes. Even though there will be nothing yet recorded (or certainly not-yet released), I will be more than happy to play the stuff that you've heard the demos of. Any requests? -

But the race issue and, more specifically, his pastor's speech, is what he was responding to. So, yes, he was speaking to racial issues.

Most political threads do.

And, more specifically... Bands that belong to folks on this board? And, even more specifically, yet... Would you come out to see me play on a weeknight? At FitzGerald's in Berwyn? I may have an opportunity to play there, but it may only be a weeknight opportunity. So, I don't want to take the show if I'm not going to get anyone out. Yeah, this is a bit self-serving. But I was hoping to test the waters before wrecking myself for the week. I don't bounce back from such things like I used to. Thanks. By the way, I'll tell you now that I would most-likely NOT make it to any of your shows,

Agreed that the Ashley story smacked of contrivance (regardless of whether or not the story is true). But aside from that, it was an incredibly insightful, inspiring, and personal speech that just about every American should be able to relate to in one way or another.

Well, here's where the firestorm begins.

How about: Peter Laughner - Take the Guitar Player For a Ride Yeah, that's where Jeff got the line from in "Misunderstood".

Happy birthday Big Perm! Did you get yourself to a new forum, as a present to yourself? An old CMJ offshoot?

The Mark Lewisohn book is the one that you want. (Although I have yet to read the Geoff Emerick one, actually). But that Lewisohn book is amazing. This one:

Great song. Period. One of the best in an extremely deep catalog by one of the best songwriters of the rock era.

Just can't stomach them anymore. Although I guess that I'd go with Kill Em All. But really, I prefer Judas Priest.
