  1. Ironically, "Without You" is actually a Badfinger song.
  2. Strictly boxing? With all the rules thereof? Ali. But a street fight.. Lee for sure.
  3. The most badass beekeeper of all time. Sounds like an amazing all-around human being, as well. RIP, Sir Ed.
  4. I live in the Chicago area, but given ehough notice I can probably schedule something up your way. Wish that I could offer an exchange, but I'm playing solo/acoustic these days and really not gigging much. Still, if you like what you hear from me...? www.myspace.com/hoponpopmusic PS - I like the tunes!
  5. Bobby Fuller, anyone? All of you know his one big hit ("I Fought the Law" -- the original version), but I have a "Best Of" and it's all pretty wonderful and in that same vein.
  6. "Gotta Get Up" Does it or does it not sound like Spoon? I say: does. Absolutely.
  7. Eels - Electro-Shock Blues Gang Of Four - Entertainment House Of Freaks - Cakewalk Shrimp Boat - Duende James - Laid
  8. Everyone is going to vote in their own best interests (or one would hope that they would). If that were, in fact, the case, then the result would be a choice that would serve the interests of the greater good. Unfortunately, there are too many people out there who have been fooled into voting for candidates that actually serve against what it is that their constituants need. We all can be (and have been) swayed by the cult of personality, which is why it's so difficult to choose the candidate that would be best for (IMO) the country.
  9. NP: Robert Plant & Allison Krauss - Raising Sand
  10. Wow. I'm surprised that I have about 70% of that. That is an amazing collection, though. I wanna have the rest!
  11. All the girls love Andy... : I'm interested in YOUR selection today. Can I see a tracklist for that punk comp?

  13. I do too, but only for so long. Seriously, it was painful. EDIT: And I knew that somebody was gonna do that, Oil Can.
  14. What's the place in Ocean Beach? Where Jewel got her start at open mic nights? I've been there, and it was kinda meh. But, since Jewel got her start there, I shoulda expected that.
  15. Chicago: Best open mic in town is at FitzGerald's: TUESDAY NIGHTS (that's tonight). Seriously, some amazing talent there. Of course, there are quite a few hacks, as well. But the some of the regulars are pretty amazing. I used to go and I just might start again tonight.
  16. Watching the Dems. debate over the weekend, I was surprised at how impressed I was with Bill Richardson. I really like Hillary, but think that the GOP hates her so much that she would never be able to build any sort of bi-partisan support for... anything, really. No matter how good the idea, and how great the plan. I like Obama. A lot. But I think that he'll need some good folks in the Oval Office with him, at least for the first little while, until he gets his feet wet and gets rolling. He can be a great president. Some day. There's just a BIG mess to clean up. And I just hope that he's r
  17. As a live band, they are notoriously inconsistent. Personally, I've seen that in action. Only saw them twice, the first time was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. They were amazing; engaging, energetic, fun. The second time was a self-indulgent, feedback-drenched mess. Boring as hell. Painful, even. That said, I would see them again in a heartbeat... just knowing what they're capable of. They're the Band Next Door, that just happens to be one of the best bands in the world: the Bob Newhart of indie rock.
  18. 1/8/08: Old Crow Medicine Show - OCMS Morphine - Yes Brinsley Schwarz - Silver Pistol The Clash - Sandinista
  19. He's kinda like Caetano Veloso is in Brazil.... but to the Israelis I saw a concert of his last night on PBS. It was not great, but there were some pretty cool songs. He also had a couple of guests -- Shawn Colvin and Jackson Browne, so that should tell you the kind of music it was. Still, the guitar played fingerstyle nylon-string guitar like a motherfucker. Somewhere between classical and flamenco style. The thing is, I remember going to see this guy with my Sunday School class, in the basement of a synogauge of a temple on the North Side of Chicago, about 23 years ago. That theat
