  1. So, whose post-Velvets work do you prefer. While Lou is more popular, and I can certainly appreciate his work (and do love a lot of it), I think that Cale's stuff is a lot more adventurous, interesting, and enjoyable, overall. In fact he has higher highs, without hitting the lows that Lou dredged. I'm listening to Paris, 1919 right now and am convinced that it is one of the 10 greatest albums in the history of the rock era. The title track just about moves me to tears. And, it doesn't let up for 30 minutes. Simply a perfect album, of the same ilk (and in the same league) as Pet Sounds. And

  3. If you just want delivery, and you're on the north side, this was always my favorite: Villa Palermo 2600something W. Devon It's just pizza and sammiches, but BOY are they good! (773)465-5400 Try the "Palermo Beef" Essentially a baked Italian beef, with mozzerella and mushrooms, and the jus on the side. Get it on garlic bread, and you cannot go wrong. Great thin-crust pizza, too. And, being the parent of a kid with food allergies, I feel compelled to warn you that Superdawg fries with peanut oil. Be warned, in case you have any sensitivies, yourself.
  4. Yes. Yes it is. I just wish that I had been there that night. Here's the full track listing:
  5. And it came true back in '00! And I have the recorded evidence therof. Nyeah Neah!!! "The Morning After" This one isn't a Kinks classic (obviously), but still has everything that you love both artists for: great Ray lyrics and melody; Georgia's understated, yet highly lyrical drumming; James' deceptively simple bass lines; and Ira's gut-wrenching guitar wankery. It's all there. I love you.
  6. Someone I've heard a ton about, and whom I really should listen to, but I never have. I'm gonna have to fix that. This article just reinforced that, a LOT. I gotta get on it.

  8. Have you tried the new Epiphone all-tube amps? Inexpensive and have a MONSTER sound. All class-1 tubes and just kill. I played a Tele through one at my local shop and cried because I didn't have the cash to buy one right then and there. They're not the sexiest amps around, but if a great sound is all you're looking for, they'll do ya right. And "Stay away from Guitar Center" is great advice.
  9. Nice poster. I would love to come see you play, if I didn't live in the 'burbs and have kids waking me at 6:00 every morning. Have a great gig; and maybe we can share a bill sometime, so that we can hear each other.
  10. Just a playlist of my 15+ years making music, if you'd listen Man, looking at this, I just realized how many styles I've covered. Kinda like Bowie without the money and fame! You may hate it, but you may not. I hope that you don't. www.iacmusic.com/toddstation I hid this in the "Ummm..." forum beofore, but figured that I'd bring it back up here, seeing as how others are pimping these days, too. (I'm looking at you, Derek!!! ) (And yeah, I know there are already Riviera fans in here, including me.)

  15. An overshadowed, underrated record.
  16. In threads this long and apparently self-explanitory (note that I said apparently), I don't even bother reading the first post. Yup. Totally fell for it.
  17. Yep. Saw that once I went to the ACL site.
  18. Okay, I'll take the bait: Summerteeth Being There Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Sky Blue Sky AM A Ghost Is Born That said, none are bad, and I enjoy each in their own way.
  19. Good thing there's this video over at the ACL site: http://tinyurl.com/3xhx87 Hare's the complete setlist:
  20. I tuned in in the middle of "Two-Headed Dog". So what'd I miss, about the first 10-15 minutes?
  21. Yeah, I had no idea that he was gonna be on. And not only that, but he had Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) sitting in on guitar! It wasn't on either of the Chicago PBS stations, but if you are in the Chicago area and were lucky enough to get the Gary, IN PBS station (like me), then you got to see this pretty excellent show. The set (of what I saw) was very heavy on songs from The Evil One (which I love) and other tunes that he did with The Aliens. Also, I did not hear a single Elevators song. Roky sounded good, but his voice has obviously lost a little of that unearthly howl that he used to have
  22. Johnny Cash - At Folsom Talk Talk - Laughing Stock Yo La Tengo - Electr-O-Pura and a Portland-themed mix that I got a few years back.
  23. Keep going north, into Skokie. Hit up: Pita Inn on Dempster. Yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about!
