  1. Yeah, I had no idea that he was gonna be on. And not only that, but he had Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) sitting in on guitar! It wasn't on either of the Chicago PBS stations, but if you are in the Chicago area and were lucky enough to get the Gary, IN PBS station (like me), then you got to see this pretty excellent show. The set (of what I saw) was very heavy on songs from The Evil One (which I love) and other tunes that he did with The Aliens. Also, I did not hear a single Elevators song. Roky sounded good, but his voice has obviously lost a little of that unearthly howl that he used to have
  2. Johnny Cash - At Folsom Talk Talk - Laughing Stock Yo La Tengo - Electr-O-Pura and a Portland-themed mix that I got a few years back.
  3. Keep going north, into Skokie. Hit up: Pita Inn on Dempster. Yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about!
  4. Ironically, "Without You" is actually a Badfinger song.
  5. Strictly boxing? With all the rules thereof? Ali. But a street fight.. Lee for sure.
  6. The most badass beekeeper of all time. Sounds like an amazing all-around human being, as well. RIP, Sir Ed.
  7. I live in the Chicago area, but given ehough notice I can probably schedule something up your way. Wish that I could offer an exchange, but I'm playing solo/acoustic these days and really not gigging much. Still, if you like what you hear from me...? www.myspace.com/hoponpopmusic PS - I like the tunes!
  8. Bobby Fuller, anyone? All of you know his one big hit ("I Fought the Law" -- the original version), but I have a "Best Of" and it's all pretty wonderful and in that same vein.
  9. "Gotta Get Up" Does it or does it not sound like Spoon? I say: does. Absolutely.
  10. Eels - Electro-Shock Blues Gang Of Four - Entertainment House Of Freaks - Cakewalk Shrimp Boat - Duende James - Laid
  11. Everyone is going to vote in their own best interests (or one would hope that they would). If that were, in fact, the case, then the result would be a choice that would serve the interests of the greater good. Unfortunately, there are too many people out there who have been fooled into voting for candidates that actually serve against what it is that their constituants need. We all can be (and have been) swayed by the cult of personality, which is why it's so difficult to choose the candidate that would be best for (IMO) the country.
  12. NP: Robert Plant & Allison Krauss - Raising Sand
  13. Wow. I'm surprised that I have about 70% of that. That is an amazing collection, though. I wanna have the rest!
  14. All the girls love Andy... : I'm interested in YOUR selection today. Can I see a tracklist for that punk comp?
  15. Trakan - Opening Soon Under New Management The Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace With God Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid Of You and I Will Beat Your Ass Wire - Send Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production Of Eggs
  16. I do too, but only for so long. Seriously, it was painful. EDIT: And I knew that somebody was gonna do that, Oil Can.
  17. What's the place in Ocean Beach? Where Jewel got her start at open mic nights? I've been there, and it was kinda meh. But, since Jewel got her start there, I shoulda expected that.
  18. Chicago: Best open mic in town is at FitzGerald's: TUESDAY NIGHTS (that's tonight). Seriously, some amazing talent there. Of course, there are quite a few hacks, as well. But the some of the regulars are pretty amazing. I used to go and I just might start again tonight.
