It is a bit strange of a release given their inability to be captured in the studio compared to live performance. It does sound like a nice collection to have all in one place but like prior poster it is hard to get excited about studio versions of songs already on albums. They actually did release singles but were generally so unhappy with how their studio albums came out that they really did nothing to ever promote singles releases and my understanding is it was all handled by record companies and part of the recording distribution package. I was at that JRAD show at the Capitol theater in NY and was totally surprised/psyched when they started playing it and I believe the first time they played it. It was really good. Had a nice double shot here skiing in vermont yesterday as the lift we were getting on was playing China Cat and as we were getting on the next song was Pot Kettle Black.

That was 10/31/1980. I went the last 3 nights. Also love the orpheum and saw some good shows there when in college including Garcia Band 2/15/80. Good stuff.

Just responding to topic about capital theater in passaic nj. There are so many videos because yes there were video screens on both sides of the stage even back in the 70's and even though theaters of that size, like the cap in port chester ny today, do not have screens. I saw Jerry Garcia Band there in 78 and Kingfish as well. famous springsteen 78 shows filmed there and available as well. Never saw the Dead there but did see them at the palladium in Nyc in spring of 77 and at englishtown nj also in 77 as my first jersey show. Love talking dead on the wilco site, two of my all time favorites.

Weird how some pop up 20 minutes later. Got orchestra singles for all 4 but no pairs. Tix will be plentiful come March.

Wait until the full tour is announced so you can make a plan. Maybe something out west will be added in early March and you could see that instead of heading home. Visiting NY for the Wilco run is another option. Personally, i was planning to see a few Green Day shows up in Canada in March and now they overlap with the Wilco Beacon shows so will stay home. Another "problem" not deserving in sympathy. I do plan to go to Massey and loved seeing the two shows there in 2011.

That could well be the case as a general matter, but i am pretty confident that they will really mix up the setlist during a 4 night run at the same venue in NYC. Time will tell and only wish we didn't have to wait 4 months for an answer!

Wow, 4 shows at the Beacon and right here in NYC. Contrary to earlier post, i don't think getting tickets with 4 shows will be tough, but reserved seating show so hard to get the best ones. Psyched to make a return trip to fabled Massey Hall and so glad it is a 2 show run like in 2011.

I think the below is correct setlist from the show last night but might be missing one. Hoped bbop would be doing a report as they are great to read after seeing the show and savior like when not. Fabrique is a one level club with a couple of foot riser at mid floor. As to size it was sort of like Hammerstein or Terminal 5 in NYC but no upper levels and a bit narrower than the former and deeper than the latter. No poster being sold. Not well organized in somewhat typical/comical Milanese fashion as two lines one for tix holders and one for will call but they switched which was which 30 minutes

Thanks so much for somehow, as usual, being able to remember and convey so eloquently the details/nuances of the show and the feeling of being there. Personally, i would like to get from here in NYC to a few thousand miles away so could not be more psyched that we will be catching some much needed Wilco spiritual strengthening starting Saturday in Milan.

Thanks so much for posting about the show and including the video links. It is very interesting how crowds can really vary and how the crowds in different countries do different things. You could really see how much the band enjoyed that singing along to the Impossible Germany jam and to the fan who really could play guitar. Happy that folks in Rio like to film so we can see some of the South American shows as it looks like there is YouTube of every song from the show. It sounded like Jeff even said thank you before starting the first song as the crowd was so loud when the band took the stage.

Fun show. Personally, i was never closer even though we have been on the rail many times. Such a small venue and from front row Jeff in arm's reach. All seemed in a good mood and were gracious in signing for all. Such a fun home court show after traveling recently for Madison, Minneapolis, Chicago and 3 in SF. Nels always seems so at ease at home. Im sure they will have a blast in South America and we at least hope to make some of Europe.

Not really a show, but the taping was pretty cool. Had not been to the Ed Sullivan Theater since 2011 when Wilco played on Letterman. For Colbert, they played Someone to Lose; a short and sweet version and got the thumbs up for no need to do it again (too bad!). It was fun to see them bopping to the house band during the commercial break before performing as Nile Rodgers was sitting in and leading the house band. The show opens with a comedy bit with Colbert and Tweedy that was pretty funny. Certainly get a bit more of a show tomorrow at Rough Trade.

If you are in NYC you might want to request tickets for the taping at 4:15 pm today. You can do so through the Late Show website. I figured what the hell and signed up yesterday and was put on waitlist and got an email a bit ago saying i was in off the waitlist. Wonder what Schmilco tune they plan to play.

Never a doubt in my mind that Ripple was a passing of the baton (my fantasy perhaps) and given all the Grateful Dead history and imagery at the Cap, i think it also accounted for them putting the audience to the test to see if they knew the words. I also had run into Nels at Tweedy at Bam in September so knew he was returning to the Cap 11/1 to play with Phil, and even though i would have been there at my home court venue anyway, that was a huge thrill all around.

"Friends don't let friends freebird". What a fun show and great crowd. Spiders without Jeff needing to ask people to clap or even doing a single hand clap to get it going the crowd was all over it. Jeff tried out a couple of new poses with hands on hips and chest out. Band seemed super relaxed and having as much fun as the front house pogo-ers.All that and a free Fillmore poster on the way out!

I know the perfect cure if you think not enough variation among setlists; just go to one show per tour and you won't suffer a single repeat and refrain from looking at setlists from other shows. Be thankful for the great shows they put on at a way reasonable price; and since the Schmilco tour proper started the sets have opened up quite a bit and will no doubt continue to do so, and we at least still had a blast at summer shows that were rather static.
