Boss_Tweedy replied to NoJ's topic in Someone Else's Song
You guys are in for a treat. I've got a ticket to see them next Friday with Hiss Golden Messenger in New Orleans. -
After two listens I don't hate it but I'm also not really loving it either. Nothing is really standing out so far.

I'm a little late with these, but I was a BBQ team member on this year's Hogs for the Cause in New Orleans. I managed to catch the Seratones on Friday night and Fruit Bats, the Marcus King Band and Shovels & Rope yesterday. A great weekend of music, food and sunshine. By the way, I searched the forum and only found one six-year-old thread about Fruit Bats. They're very good. I'm going back through their catalog now, as I was only familiar with their newest release. Check them out!

Unfortunately I didn't make it to the show. My dad was hospitalized yesterday, so I ate the ticket and stayed with him for a few hours last night. If you go let me know how the show is.

Recorded & live music (obviously), baseball (I want to take in a ballgame at every major league ballpark), reading, traveling, Southern history/culture/foodways, national parks/outdoors, history, civil war battlefields, photography (though my camera is prehistoric and I haven't made much time for it in recent years) and sleeping.

What albums are you looking forward to this year?

I'm happy to advise it's not just a rumor: http://www.stereogum.com/1930949/the-war-on-drugs-releasing-new-single-thinking-of-a-place-on-record-store-day/news/ -
Elvis's versions of "Too Much Monkey Business" & "Promised Land" are both good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYW0YVQ_b_4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HR_-hsAIRA

He had apparently finished a new album dedicated to his wife that's still scheduled for release later this year. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/chuck-berrys-family-move-forward-with-planned-chuck-lp-w472845

That one's my favorite as well.

It hasn't even been two full months, yet it feels like an eternity since he was inaugurated. It's exhausting. He's exhausting.

Such a huge loss for the music world. Godspeed.

I've listened to it a couple of times and think it's solid (as is every album they make). I actually feel that the title song is the weakest track. I do miss the heavy guitars that are less prominent in this release, but for a band to be as consistently good as they are while at the same time evolving over time is pretty incredible.
