  1. My concert schedule's been pretty lean this year: Wilco - Tabernacle - Atlanta, GA - both nights ( neither would land on my list of favorite Wilco shows, however) The Cure - UNO Lakefront Arena - New Orleans, LA - both nights - Bob Smith can still sing Loretta Lynn - IP Casino - Biloxi, MS - the show was shortened considerably because Loretta was under the weather, but it was a bucket list show for me and I took my mom, who's had her hands full the last two years with my dad being ill Alejandro Escovedo - Chickie Wah Wah - New Orleans, LA - beautiful show made better because I met him
  2. Hoping for some Deep South shows that aren't festivals. I just don't have the finances for a Winterlude trip.
  3. Here's a link to a very informative BBC Radio special hosted by Billy Bragg on the 25th anniversary of "Out of Time." There are two separate episodes, each a little over an hour in length. I've listened to all of it and recommend to fans of the band. There are recent interviews with Berry, Buck, Mills, and Stipe as well as producer Scott Litt. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08541fx
  4. I'm not a subscriber and it works fine for me. Let me try to paste the text of the article. If this isn't OK, I apologize in advance and am OK if a moderator removes this post. LOS ANGELES - Jeff Tweedy stops strumming his guitar, unfolds himself from a couch backstage at the Ace Theater and reaches forward for a handshake, connecting a musical circuit of creator and listener that has spanned more than two decades. "I'm going to sing all my answers to your questions if that's OK." His speaking voice is like his singing voice, raspy and melodically conversational. Had he done so, it would
  5. Excellent article that really resonates with me because the trajectory of my Wilco fandom is pretty much on par with the writer's. Great quotes from Jeff, too. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/life/article/A-musical-handshake-Growing-old-with-Wilco-10632706.php
  6. I'm regretting not getting tix. Of course it would help if I could find a new job that actually pays.
  7. Watched "Miss Sharon Jones" & "Mavis!" Both are excellent music documentaries on two of my favorite musicians. I'm still heartbroken over Sharon Jones's passing. Also went to the theater today to watch "Hacksaw Ridge," which I very much enjoyed. That an unarmed man actually saved 75 of his fellow soldiers on an active battlefield without ever firing a single shot is nothing short of miraculous. Definitely a powerful statement on the courage of conviction. I can't believe I'd never heard of Desmond Doss prior to seeing this movie.
  8. The hits just keep on coming. http://pitchfork.com/news/67585-sharon-jones-dead-at-60/
  9. Saw "Arrival" earlier this week and "Bleed for This" today. "Arrival" is really good though I'm still trying to figure it out and want to watch it again to hopefully catch what I missed the first time. It's not your garden variety alien movie. Very cerebral and well-done. Amy Adams is terrific. "Bleed for This" isn't the most exciting or captivating boxing film, but Miles Teller's portrayal of Vinny Pazienza is really strong and Aaron Eckhart's transformation into Kevin Rooney is phenomenal. If you know the two real-life men who are being portrayed by Teller and Eckhart, you'll really app
  10. Yeah, I also don't have a Blu-Ray player. I wish the live CD was offered as part of a tw-disc set, including only the remastered version of "Out of Time," and that the disc of demos came with the more costly four-disc set that includes the Blu-Ray disc.
  11. Anyone planning on picking up this? I don't care about the demos, but I'd like the live CD. http://www.remhq.com/news/video-unboxing-of-25th-anniversary-deluxe-edition-of-out-of-time/
  12. Makes me wish I lived in Chicago. As I just lost my most secure contract work, my finances won't allow for it. Dang.
  13. This is more of a list of my favorites rather than a "top ten." Also not sure if I can name ten, and this is in no particular order: Alejandro Escovedo - "Burn Something Beautiful" Mavis Staples - "Livin' on a High Note" Big Thief - "Masterpiece" Margo Price - "Midwest Farmer's Daughter" Loretta Lynn - "Full Circle" Drive-By Truckers - "American Band" Jimmy "Duck" Holmes - "It Is What It Is" (fans of Delta blues, particularly the "Bentonia School" of blues that includes Skip James, should check this one out) Charles Bradley - "Changes" Sturgill Simpson - "A Sailor's Guide to Earth" St. Paul
  14. Sturgill Simpson - saw him at the Thirsty Hippo, a very small bar in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in November of 2014. The Strokes - saw them at Hal & Mal's in Jackson, Mississippi in 2001 or early 2002. Shovels & Rope - saw them at Soul Kitchen in Mobile, Alabama in January of 2015. Counting Crows - saw them at Tipitina's in New Orleans in the spring of 1994.
  15. Congrats from this Braves fan to long-suffering Cubs fans, and to baseball, for an epic win in an epic game in an instant-classic World Series.
  16. Having just finished "I'll Take You There" today, I'm inclined to agree with your assessment. I didn't hate it, but it just didn't make me feel many of the feels.
