  1. That's the first music of Jay's in quite a while that didn't make me want to kill myself.
  2. Was anyone here on the old R.E.M. board Murmurs? I was Reverend Bill Funderburk there.
  3. Having just returned from seeing Tony Bennett and his band tonight, I want to add it to my list of favorite concerts for the year. I don't see how anyone who's 90 years old can do what he does. He's incredible.
  4. Saw him tonight at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans. He performed with a three-piece band consisting of a piano player, a drummer, and a bassist. The band was top-notch. I tried to memorize their names and googled more info as soon as I got home. Harold Jones is 76 and was Count Basie's drummer. Marshall Wood played the upright bass. Bennett's longtime piano player, Ralph Sharon, unfortunately passed away last year. The new piano player is Billy Stritch. They played three songs before Tony walked onto the stage, and his entrance was very cool. An audio clip of Frank Sinatra introducing Ton
  5. Which version did you get? I still haven't bought one.
  6. R.E.M.'s covers of "There She Goes Again," Pale Blue Eyes," and "Femme Fatale" by the Velvet Underground.
  7. Not music but John Cleese & Eric Idle. Bucket list stuff for me.
  8. To me everything they put their name on was solid till Bill Berry retired. Completely agree that they're one of the greatest American bands.
  9. My concert schedule's been pretty lean this year: Wilco - Tabernacle - Atlanta, GA - both nights ( neither would land on my list of favorite Wilco shows, however) The Cure - UNO Lakefront Arena - New Orleans, LA - both nights - Bob Smith can still sing Loretta Lynn - IP Casino - Biloxi, MS - the show was shortened considerably because Loretta was under the weather, but it was a bucket list show for me and I took my mom, who's had her hands full the last two years with my dad being ill Alejandro Escovedo - Chickie Wah Wah - New Orleans, LA - beautiful show made better because I met him
  10. Hoping for some Deep South shows that aren't festivals. I just don't have the finances for a Winterlude trip.
  11. Here's a link to a very informative BBC Radio special hosted by Billy Bragg on the 25th anniversary of "Out of Time." There are two separate episodes, each a little over an hour in length. I've listened to all of it and recommend to fans of the band. There are recent interviews with Berry, Buck, Mills, and Stipe as well as producer Scott Litt. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08541fx
  12. I'm not a subscriber and it works fine for me. Let me try to paste the text of the article. If this isn't OK, I apologize in advance and am OK if a moderator removes this post. LOS ANGELES - Jeff Tweedy stops strumming his guitar, unfolds himself from a couch backstage at the Ace Theater and reaches forward for a handshake, connecting a musical circuit of creator and listener that has spanned more than two decades. "I'm going to sing all my answers to your questions if that's OK." His speaking voice is like his singing voice, raspy and melodically conversational. Had he done so, it would
  13. Excellent article that really resonates with me because the trajectory of my Wilco fandom is pretty much on par with the writer's. Great quotes from Jeff, too. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/life/article/A-musical-handshake-Growing-old-with-Wilco-10632706.php
  14. I'm regretting not getting tix. Of course it would help if I could find a new job that actually pays.
