  1. Just want to say to all who are fortunate enough to be attending that I hope y'all have a blast. I'll be there with you in spirit.
  2. I tried to whittle it down last night, and this year it's tough to do. They're all very good movies. If I had to pick the one that impacted me the most emotionally, I'd pick "Hacksaw Ridge." As for my favorite among them, I don't think I have one. There really wasn't one that stood out as being better than the rest. I could probably pick three or four that I'd most like to see again: "Arrival," Hell or High Water," "Hidden Figures" and "Hacksaw Ridge." Maybe that's a testament to the quality of this year's nominees. If I was a betting man my money would be on "Moonlight" because of its story
  3. Just watched "Manchester by the Sea." Very long but very good film. Now I've seen all of this year's best picture nominees.
  4. He didn't even bother to address the Russian military provocations: the spy ship off the East Coast, the buzzing of our naval ship by two Russian fighters, the violation of the Cold War era treaty. In fact he stated he doesn't believe Putin is trying to test him. It's beyond unnerving at this point. This is the stuff that makes rational people lose sleep at night.
  5. I, too, grew up in the 1980s. Remember the USFL? There's a good ESPN "30 for 30" documentary on the league's history, including the downfall which was largely precipitated by Trump. He has a lengthy history of ruining things. Most narcissists do.
  6. I was just glad to have a chance to see the band with Olson live. One of those bucket list items I was able to check off. Agreed on the lackluster reunion album.
  7. Glad someone outside the country music establishment won that honor. Bro-country and all the crap played on the radio should be killed. With fire.
  8. I'm a little late in responding, but that was an instant classic. Who knows how many more times we'll see those two facing each other? Happy for Federer, as I've always admired his game.
  9. I was supposed to catch them in Chicago, but I had to cancel my trip. Wouldn't be a problem if I could find a damn job in Chicago (where I'd like to live). Hoping they might make an appearance in NOLA since Alejandro seems to have a lot of love for it. Peter Buck's pretty much my favorite rock star.
  10. Eh. I was excited at first till I saw that they're scheduled for the same day as Dave Matthews. I can't stand Dave Matthews, and there will be a zillion people there.
  11. Been on an likely best picture kick lately, having seen "Fences," "La La Land," "Moonlight," and "Hidden Figures" (from which I just returned). All are good, certainly better than what usually fares best at the box office. Denzel Washington and Viola Davis are absolutely incredible in "Fences." I very much enjoyed "La La Land" and thought it to be a well-done homage to a bygone era of film. "Moonlight" is pretty heavy stuff but tells a pretty unique story and shows an individual in three distinct stages of his life as well as the experiences that mold him into who he becomes. "Hidden Figures"
  12. Could someone please pin this thread and unpin the one from 2016? Thanks in advance.
  13. Apparently the New Pornographers are readying a new album for release this year. Add that one to my list.
  14. Definitely looking forward to the new Spoon album: http://pitchfork.com/news/70840-spoon-detail-new-album-hot-thoughts/ Also hoping for new material from Washed Out some time in the near future.
  15. Just watched it online. Everything he does is killer. Whether or not country music appreciates him, he's exactly what it needs.
