  1. Forthcoming Avett Brothers release streaming here.
  2. Fingers crossed for an applicable Foghat show (or 17) at the local fair in the not-too-distant future.
  3. nalafej, It was a terrific experience. Rollie Fingers threw out the first pitch and was available for autographs, photos, and handshakes during the game. The players for both teams wore throwback uniforms. Many were waiting to sign autographs for kids as they passed through the ballpark entrances. They sat atop the dugouts during the game. The next night I attended a Barons' game at their almost new stadium, Regions Field, in Downtown Birmingham. Very near to the stadium is the new Negro Southern League Museum, which is a must-see for baseball fans.
  4. Not major league baseball, but I'm leaving for Birmingham today for tomorrow's Rickwood Classic at Rickwood Field. It's the oldest baseball park in the country, and 110 hall of famers have played on its field. This is a bucket list item for me. http://rickwoodclassic.com
  5. "All the Way," the HBO biopic about LBJ starring Bryan Cranston. Excellent movie!
  6. I took this shot of Robert Smith during the opening night of this tour in NOLA. If you are or ever were a fan of The Cure, then I highly recommend attending one of the shows during this tour if you can.
  7. Oh, and for tonight: Loretta Lynn.
  8. If anyone wants to know about the ills of corporate (absentee) ownership in baseball, I offer as Exhibit A my Atlanta Braves. Anytime a representative of your team's owner refers to the team as "the asset," you know things are not well. With the stadium mess, the questionable personnel decisions and the obviously disastrous results not the field, it's becoming difficult for me to follow them. And I was a fan in the 1980s before the Schuerholz/Cox era of success.
  9. Just now checking back in. We were definitely given two great performances by The Cure this week. Tuesday night they opened the vault a bit and played some songs I haven't heard in years (live or recorded). There was a time when I knew everything they released, but I'd forgotten many of them over the years. I know a lot of locals who attended Tuesday's show were disappointed that the band didn't play more material from Disintegration or Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, but I love it when a band plays lesser known or older material live. Wednesday night they focused more on their more commercially po
  10. remphish1, Will do. I'm going to both NOLA shows. Saw them 20 years ago at the same venue. To date it's still one of the best shows I've ever seen.
  11. The Cure - night one in NOLA
  12. Heartless Bastards & Old 97's.
  13. Finally watched "Mavis!" Excellent documentary that makes me want to hug her even more.
