  1. SP: They're mine, Johnny, all mine... JM: (thinking) WHERE IS THAT %@&*^&&* SNIPER? TAKE THIS B*TCH OUT! NOW!
  2. Daniel: What is Barack doing at that podium? Mr. Miyagi: Called crane technique. Daniel: Does it work? Mr. Miyagi: If do right, no can defence. Daniel: Could you teach me? Mr. Miyagi: First learn stand, then learn fly.
  3. don't think i've seen this posted here... awesome:
  4. Yep. my neighborhood (in a moderate area of Orange County - 50/50 dems & repubs) is full of "Yes on 8" signs, easily 10:1. The Catholic church is pushing it hard (including my parish), and a huge %age of hispanics in CA are catholic. I'm afraid it's going to win. not sure if I saw these here first or not, but this stuff sickens me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlItG4raicA
  5. bacon. don't really like eating it, but it smells awesome the briney smell of the ocean on a foggy morning asian food - anything that starts with garlic, ginger & chilis cooked in hot oil is gonna be great freshly mowed grass the smell in the air after a really heavy downpour freshly baked bread Thanksgiving morning
  6. I guess it depends on how old your kids are. Mine are still very young, but if they were in their teens / HS age, I'd definitely be interested in hearing their perspective on things. Not that I'd necessarily agree with them (or consider their opinion to be well thought-out), but you never know. A bright & well-informed HS kid probably has a better grasp of what's going on in the world than a lot of adult voters out there.
  7. We actually don't hear nearly enough about G. Gordon Liddy.
  8. I've often said that if Nader was serious about changing the way Washington works, he'd run for an office he could actually win - like a congressional representative or even US senator. These presidential runs are just for publicity, IMO. They're certainly not doing anything to advance the cause, especially this year.
  9. calm down. I was merely pointing out that these two were in the demographic that you say (and I agree that) largely doesn't view race as a major issue. but there still are racists in that group - just as they are across all elements of society, across the country.
  10. Gallup's traditional model largely assumes low turnout among young and minority voters. It also assumes that turnout will be roughly even between Dems and Repubs (as it was in 2004). If that happens, Obama's get out the vote campaign will be a huge failure - but evidence from early voting already suggests otherwise. and I believe the two individuals caught were 18 & 20 yrs old.
  11. So is Ashley Todd going to be the next Joe The Plumber? You know, tell a story, get a lot of national attention - and then once it comes out that the story you told was full of holes, still be used as a "symbol" of a story that should be told anyway. Even though she wasn't beat up by a big, scary black man for being a McCain supporter, she could have been...
  12. If early voting is offered in your state, you should really try to vote that way. This is going to be a record-breaking election (turnout expected to be as high as 80% in some states) - election day will just be insane. And, if you believe what's outlined here is legit, all the more reason to vote as early as possible to get any "irregularities" cleared up before it's too late.
  13. I don't recall any talk like that in 1996 or 2000. Maybe it was there & I missed it.
  14. If the electoral college vote were awarded by congressional district, rather than the current winner-take-all for the entire state, I think that would go a long way toward making it seem like a true national election. It currently makes no sense for Obama to spend time in TX or McCain to spend time in CA - but if they were fighting for congressional districts, you'd be certain to see Obama campaigning in Dallas or Houston and McCain campaigning in Orange County. It would be very interesting to see how that would affect the overall electoral map - I'm sure one party would fare worse in
  15. I agree. Distance running is as much about race strategy and mind games as it is pure athleticism. I'm sure she won't make this mistake next time. That being said, you'd think they'd at least be able to give her an honorary award or something.
  16. since heading over to the cheap trick thread this morning, i've watched/listened to this song, oh, about 30 times. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD8ymBR2Ufo great, great memories. I was 7 or 8 when my older sister bought the album... we used to play it for hours and hours on end. "Surrender" was our favorite by far.
  17. No, she'll pray for them and their soulless, heathen of a mother.
  18. Someone asked recently why Obama isn't running away with the election. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4wQfQtpDAc I kept waiting for the laugh track to kick in, or for Amy Poehler to appear... but no, this woman is authentic.
  19. This is the 3rd parish I've been a member of in my lifetime, and it is the first time I've heard it put so blatantly. I think his line was something to the effect of "One party supports God's teachings. You should consider that on election day." This was after he talked about the tragedy of abortion and how all Catholics should do everything they can to protect the lives of the unborn. I actually have no problem with a lot of what he said - it's his duty as a priest to advocate the Church's teachings and relate those teachings to our daily lives. And every 4 years, the presidential race
  20. Our priest is walking the tightrope this election. While he legally can't tell us specifically who/what to vote for, he's all but saying Catholics have to vote for Republicans because of the abortion issue alone. If I had the time & desire to debate him about it, I'd love to hear him rationalize the other aspects of the republican plaform and explain to me how that jibes with the teachings of Christ.
  21. Polls are looking strong, but we can never assume. Funny stuff happens.
