  1. sorry - meant "dead" bands as in no longer together, not "The Dead"... was referring to the 'mats actually. and Wilco has easily 100x the following that they ever had.
  2. trust me, forums following "dead" bands still survive. how do you think I heard about Tweedy/Wilco in the first place?
  3. Even if I bought the premise that their music peaked with YHF and has been declining ever since (I don't), why would that mean they should call it quits? How many artists can you point to and say their most recent album is their greatest work, and that their music has done nothing but get better with each release - especially bands like Wilco who have altered their sound so much over the years? This band should stay together as long as it fulfills their creative (and economic) neeeds. Whether they make music that you want to keep buying - that's something for you/us to worry about, not the
  4. wow... these 4 work amazingly well together.
  5. Wilco Loves You (so please pay for this album and don't download the torrent)
  6. oh please. for every point you make that might be worth listening to, you have about a dozen of these statements.
  7. agreed. i think it's time for a good retro (maybe even psychedelic) and colorful album cover.
  8. some areas are nice, some are shitty. like most places in the universe.
  9. I generally tip well in restaurants, but I don't overtip - typical tip is 18-20%, depending on service. Biggest tip I've ever given was probably 30% - but that was because my kids made a huge mess and I felt guilty leaving it there. I don't think I've ever had stellar enough service to warrant anything over 20% - although that could be because I usually want to be left alone at a restaurant and overly "helpful" waiters/waitresses annoy me more often than not. I've only stiffed a waitress once, and that was when she made a racist joke at the expense of her (almost all mexican) kitchen staff
  10. i agree with the OP. it's got too many notes...
  11. yeah, that's a daunting task... Costello has been one of the most prolific musicians in rock for some 35 years now. Luckily, there have been numerous compilations of his work... I'd personally start with something focusing on the early years - I have this one, but there are a few others.
  12. yes. also, Motley Crue - "Home Sweet Home" (pretty much any time a hair metal band tried one of those grotesque "power ballads")
  13. Could you imagine if cars like this took off (pardon the pun)? Would make police high speed chases so much more exciting...
  14. agree - but to that end, I think the outrage over these "bonuses" is doing a good job in educating the public about how little control we have over these companies, despite our 80% ownership of them (in AIG's case). If this doesn't drive the public to supporting nationalization, I'm not sure what will.
  15. good for you to stick to your guns. there's no reason to overpay in this market - and with major repairs needed, it sounds like you would be overpaying. if you haven't found a new home in 2 weeks, have your agent contact theirs again... they'll likely be more receptive to the idea of covering the costs the 2nd time around.
  16. ...and Cramer is tonight's guest on the Daily Show. Should be very entertaining.
  17. Just Bjork and the guys... another female up there might have made it more interesting.
  18. Sugarcubes (~89 ish) - decent band when Bjork was doing the singing, but when the dude took over w/ his angry icelandic rap/shouting/whatever bit (which seemed to be well over half of their songs at the time) it just totally turned me off. New Order (also ~88-89) - i don't think they looked up from their keyboards all night. Psychedelic Furs (~91) - at the end of their run, and you could tell they didn't give a shit anymore.
  19. yeah, the key is to not fall in love with this house before it's yours. you have to be willing to walk away from the deal, especially in this market.
  20. jealous - at the top of my list for the band I wish I had caught live when I had the chance. the live stuff of theirs on youtube is great
  21. Paul Westerberg & His Only Friends The Pixies Fishbone Public Image Limited The Replacements (post-Bob, though ) ditto
  22. hmmm.... Lennon - Working Class Hero Big Star - Thirteen (Elliot Smith's version is also incredible) Minutemen - Vietnam Replacements - Here Comes A Regular
