I caught an episode of that disaster "I'm a celebrity get me out of here" show on NBC with Mrs. Blago featured. She actually came across as a fairly nice & decent (and boring as hell) woman. Such a shame that her husband wasn't allowed to do the show - he would have been entertaining to watch.

I'm a "stander" and think sitting at concerts is just wrong on many levels (unless there's like a medical reason to do so). That being said, if you're in a section with seating and everyone around you is sitting and YOU decide to stand, ignoring their requests for you to sit down like everyone else - then you're the douchebag, not them. -
nothing to contribute here other than a thank you to whoever updated the thread title with the correct name of the city... was driving me nuts!

I'll be at the Pomona show on the 20th & then the LA show on the 23rd. can't wait!

You might want to narrow down your question a bit. SF has arguably the best collection of restaurants of any city in the US - certainly in the top 3. All ethnicities, all price ranges, styles, etc. etc. etc. What kind of restaurant/food are you interested in? That being said - if it's your first time there, you can't go wrong with a bowl of chowder or cippolini and a hunk of sourdough.

love it.

The Onion couldn't have written it any better. -
RIP, Jay. You're a big reason why I became a Wilco fan in the first place.

WILCO SHOWS - QUESTION (and possible tix)
ih8music replied to iamtryingtobreakyourspleen's topic in Just A Fan
Yeah, I'm also surprised they're not using that open date for a show in SD. But I don't think it's a fair argument to say that they're catering to a VIP audience. Tickets at the Fox and Wiltern were just $32-35. This day & age, for a band as established as Wilco, that's a bargain. -
I also like the album version of this song quite a bit and hope it gets decent airplay, although I'm holding out hope for some added jams at the end when it's performed live. I just hope that if they do, Pat does more than just wail on the same note like he did at the end of the lolla show. I understand that they were still working on the song at the time and that the ending was to just have it dissolve into noise, but still - his playing at the end there was just... I dunno, kinda lame.

WILCO SHOWS - QUESTION (and possible tix)

given that they play the following night (same day, actually) up at the mountain winery in saratoga (about 6 hrs away by car), I highly doubt it. they do have the 24th open, and I thought it was curious how they booked the 22nd & 23rd, and then the 25th. so maybe a midnight show on the 24th is possible - I had just assumed they left the date open for a tonight show appearance or something like that. -
here I was going to post something about how I'd love to have an act like Lucero open one of the LA/Pomona shows, only to check Lucero's website and see that I MISSED THEM HERE LAST WEEK! mild consolation is that i probably couldn't have made it to the concert anyway due to work... but had I realized they were in town, I would have tried to adjust my schedule... grr.

YES! Those people need to be pulled aside and slapped. An occassional "I love this song" or "that was awesome" is cool - having a conversation about your kid's soccer game or your latest home improvement project (both of which I've heard at concerts) should be grounds for ejection.

qft. one of the best concert experiences of my life was catching westerberg on his solo tour a few yrs ago, where a good 90% of the fans were singing along with him on every song, new & old. was just an awesome night.

I considered ordering one with "your name here" on it, but again, thought the joke would be funny for about 30 seconds and then I'd be stuck with a shirt I didn't want.
-
yeah - I find it mildly amusing, but I don't think I'd ever wear it out in public (with either my real name or my VC handle).

I've taken my kids (5 & 3) to a handful of sporting events - hockey, basketball, baseball, etc. - and there you have plenty of drunken fans, disgusting facilities, foul language, and loud music/noise (NHL/NBA, at least). They've always had a blast and I've never felt like I was putting them into harm's way - nor did I ever feel that their presence there did anything to prevent the people around me from having a good time. That being said, I can't imagine taking them to a rock concert anytime soon. Not sure why i'm drawing the line there, but it just feels like the wrong environment for

see, i would feel more like a douchebag sitting in the front row of a concert - even an accoustic solo set. not that i've been in that situation before, though - all of the assigned-seating concerts I've been to have been at large ampitheaters where I was pretty far back (and we stood at our seats anyway).
-
thanks for posting that. I was starting to think I'm the only one who's bugged by this song (especially the backing vocals)... I guess there are two of us.
-
having given it about 60 secs of deep thought, my top 3 are: 1. Muzzle of Bees 2. Nothingsevergonnastandinmyway 3. Jesus, etc.

that car definitely has the right look (cool, menacing) for the song. could have been a decent album cover - but I kinda like the partying camel.
-
I was also not blown away by this song the first couple of passes thru - I liked it a lot and thought it was very good, but couldn't really get why people were going ga-ga over it. Then I listened to it cranked up very loud in a dark, dark room. Got my heart racing... the panicy vibe definitly took over and now I "get" it. But I agree that it would have been even better if Jeff fully lost it at the end... he's almost there. Perhaps live we'll hear him let loose.

just wish the (already amazing, I know) resolution of this scan was slightly better... I'd love to be able to see the titles of the CD collection there. As it is, I can only identify a handful of them.
-
not necessary - we could just omit the obvious stinker, "You Never Know" (sorry, still can't get into it and I honestly dislike it the more times I try... gonna keep it out of the rotation for a few weeks I think)
