  1. This is very helpful. And I have created lists that would cause people to question my sanity also. Not that I'm questioning your sanity. In all seriousness. I needed this list. Oh what is missing? Archives Performance Series 4-11. Don't you have inside sources?
  2. "While I go gas up the truck, Pack the old love letters up, we will read them when we forget why we left here" Damn that song just hits me in the guts every time. Have you ever tried to make a mix of songs that just make you ball every time you hear them. 1. If It's the Beaches - Avett Brothers 2. I Called You Back - Bonnie "Prince" Billy 3. Still Fighting It - Ben Folds (Have a little boy, and you'll see) 4. Landslide - Smashing Pumpkins Version 5. Fatal Wound - Uncle Tupelo 6. How Do You Keep Love Alive - Ryan Adams & the Cardinals (the most beautiful line ever "I would ha
  3. Well I've been playing this record quite a bit over the last few days and it is growing on me. I have finally figured out my initial dissapointment (and some of that still stands). The Avetts are built on earnestness and sincerity and for some reason this album seems a tad forced and a little cheap in a way. I don't mean that in a terrible way it just sounds like they were trying to be a little cutesy at times. By best example is "Slight Figure of Speech". There is a great melody, kicking tune, and then they throw in the rap/fast talk part which for me just feels cutesy and ruins the vibe
  4. I always thought (especially during their peak) that they were a really good mainstream band. The first two albums are essential in my mind.
  5. Not about Wilco, but about Farm Aid. Neil's set was very nice. I have been in a Neil funk in the last year with the box set being odd and his last album being trash. This reinspired me. Top notch!
  6. A couple thoughts. Overall I enjoyed the set musically, with exception of Hoodoo Voodoo which I thought they murdered (in a bad way). I was a little disappointed in Jeff making two jokes at Gretchen Wilson's expense. One, she is from the area (cut her some slack). Two, it is like making fun of tv dinners (we all know it is crap, does it have to be spoke of). Three, my mom was watching (and I can hear her say, "hey I like Gretchen Wilson") Anyway, nice to see Wilco playing in front of Jason Mraz. Thank you Neil and Willie?
  7. I saw Ryan in Birmingham in 98 or 99 after Whiskeytown was done and before Heartbreaker. It was this little solo tour he was doing to figure out what he was doing. Destroyer reminds me alot of that material. Playing alot of Hey There Mrs. Lovely, Statuettes, etc. I always liked this period of singer songwriter introspection stuff from Ryan. Yeah, Destoyer deserves a release too. Hell, lets just roll em all out, his 1/2 great stuff is great compared to most.
  8. You know, I'm not an overly intelligent person, but I do think I'm a decent read on people. For example, not so shocked when I heard about John Edwards. And I wouldn't be shocked by anything Tom Cruise does. Some people just give off the vibe. David Letterman also gave me that vibe and the way he handled last night (almost trying to come off as a victim or that it was all some funny joke) was sad. I'm sure your family thinks your behavior is hilarious. Anyway, another side note. I had read on the internet that this was going down about an hour before the show. So I knew he was going to c
  9. I think this is exactly what Jay Farrar needs. I mean having a stack of coherent lyrics for him to tackle instead of his own. However people will forever compare his Mermaid Ave with the two Wilco installments.
  10. I would be very disapointed if Chicago doesn't land the Olympics. I'm a firm believer in the power of corruption and calculated political moves. If Chicago can't land this then what can we say about corruption and why would Obama fly across the world if the answer wasn't already in the bag? Also I take offense to people dissing the Cubs and what the hell, what do you guys have against Billy Corgan?
  11. To my ears, 48 Hours is ready to go. My copy is definetly not the greatest sound quality, but you can tell that that is a complete album as is. That being said, Suicide Handbook, is my favorite of his unrealeased stuff. There are songs on there that just break my heart.

    AM Vinyl

Mine arrived today. My sweet AM on vinyl. Oh boy!. New liner notes from Brien Henneman which are really honest/sweet. This is "my" Wilco. All of this is relative to time and place, but hearing AM on vinyl reminds me of how I used to love Wilco on a basic level. Now I kind of love the "new" Wilco in an appreciative manner. Does that makes sense. I guess to be cheesy we used to have alot in common, now we are just the same. Ha Ha.
  13. I watched those the other day, and I think "I was Loved" is a standout
  14. I have been lucky to gather up the majority of Ryan's unreleased albums and I have heard of Dear Impossible and Sad Dracula, but never heard them. Are they out there? Also, thanks for you guys posting the origins of some of these songs. I haven't always followed the Foggy happenings so sometimes are out of the loop. I wish he'd officially put out "When The Wild Wind Blows" from Elizabethtown Sessions. What a gem.
  15. Well I thought Ryan's new adventure into digi singles requires its own thread. I haven't seen much press or reviews for the singles so i'm interested in what people think. Single #1 : I give it a B- Cool tunes, but the kind of lyrics Ryan writes in his sleep. The B side features the first time Ryan ever sounded close to the Byrds to me Single #2 : D These sound like demos that have been mixed by a 2 year old. Terrible sound and largely throw aways. I wish he would have rethought this one. Single #3: A- These two are legit. Especially the A side. If you like R
  16. First of all, keep the "weakest album to date" in perspective. These guys are top notch, especially live. So, yes I'm truly disapointed in this new record but trust me, that is all relative. I would start with "Emotionalism". This record has everything and is just gorgeous lyrically. Go find an mp3 of "Weight of Lies" and you'll be floored.
  17. I loved Diary back in the day, but haven't owned it since probably the late 90's when i swore off alt for alt-country. Anyway, this too will be available on vinyl. I have recently began collecting as much early 90's alt vinyl as possible. Wowee Zowee my prize early 90's original vinyl is the Smashing Pumpkings Pieces Iscariot (yellow vinyl) what a great record. also have Cmon Feel the Lemonheads (so underrated that it isn't even funny). Anyways, this is another thread
  18. Cool story Matt and I'm glad you were able to pick up Heartbreaker on vinyl (very much worth it). I think you hit upon a topic that Ryan is crazy about and it probably made him and you feel immediately more relaxed in what I can imagine is not the most natural of situations for either of you. You know I've never met Ryan (I've watched him interact with band members and others prior to a concert while I was waiting in line before a show) and from a few other observations he has struck me as nothing but completely sincere. He is obviously a high energy/short attention span guy, but he truly se
  19. Ya know, the more I search and search for music that kills me and floors me and causes me to experience any emotion, I find myself coming back to Ryan more often than not. He just always hits the nail for me. I just put in Cardinology AGAIN in the ole car cd player and I just love it. Sure "Natural Ghost" is bad like a David Crosby song and "Sink Ships" is stupid, but the 9 or 10 other tracks just hit the spot for me. I mean he has released so much and I also own the stuff he hasn't "released" and 99% of it kills me. I always realize how much of a stupid fan boy I am when I hear statements
  20. speaking of Ryan, I just purchased the second Pax Am single and I have a few thoughts. First off, I was quick to purchase the first single from Pax Am and I mostly liked it. Lryically they sounded a little like cast offs, but they were cool. This second single is just two rough demos and I feel a little ripped. If he wants to post demos to his sight that is cool and I like hearing the creation process, but these two had major sound issues that make you ask "i just spent money on this". And since there is no way to hear what you are buying it becomes a little suspect. Now I have always sup
  21. I'm (of course) going to give this more spins, and I hope it grows. And my concern is not with the big label crap or the polished sound. The Gleam 2 (which I feel was pretty polished and alot of ballad/slower material is one of my favs). And I lived through the backlash with Wilco around the time of Summerteeth, so this isn't about that for me. I just think (upon first listen) that the songs just weren't as immediate or astounding. Emotionalism literaly floored me and that just doesn't happen much anymore. Who knows!
  22. well, I got home and tonight listened to the new album on vinyl. I hate to be that guy who listens once and gives an opinion (it isn't fair/but here I go). After one spin, nothing but disappointed . Now this one had some expectations for me, and Emotionalism and the two Gleam EPs had me loving this band more than any other band going these days. I wanted a fast forward button and I wanted to not be preached at anymore. Maybe I'm having a bad night or something, but with the exception of "I and Love and You", "January Wedding", "Kick Drum Heart" and "Laundry Room" I was completely underwhe
  23. Just and FYI, the Avett Brothers website states this morning that the vinyl is in stores today. I just pre ordered mine a few days prior (stating a 9/29 release date), but I can't wait and my father in law needs his own copy (justification). This is where I am reminded of how crappy my local music stores are. We'll see if anyone has it in today. As a side note, I'm not sure if there are any reviews out yet, but I'm refusing to read any reviews on this until I hear it. I'm preparing for the backlash about the slickness of it and so on. From what I have heard of the album so far, I have n
  24. Do you ever listen to an album and then read reviews and ask yourself, "are they listening to the same album I am?" For me, it is usually after I listen and love and album and then the review just trashes it. For example, I have always loved Dino Jr. "Without A Sound" and I don't understand when every album review kicks it as being weak and the worst dino jr. record. How is that possible? Anyway, anyone ever had this experience where you are just completely 180 from conventional wisdom?
