About 7 years ago a buddy got me a huge gift card from best buy for a wedding gift. I just bought a sony reciever, cd player, tape deck (WTF) and basic Sony turntable. The reciever which was between 1-200 bucks had numerous alternate inputs that work for phono or satelite radio, whatever. The basic sony turntable which I believe is still avaialable has a builit in pre amp. If all you need is a reciever and adequate turntable you could probably do this for 300-400 bucks.

This Is New? Also I know that IATTBYH isn't necessarily a Wilco sponsored release, but is there anyway we can talk Wilco to releasing audio from that movie like they did with Sunken Treasure and Ashes. Man that would be dynomite. I always wanted to solo acoustic version of IATTBYH that opens that movie.

well it is friday and I'm held up in pre order limbo with no copy of Around the Well. Can someone explain to me the purpose of a pre order if the item doesn't come till a week after release date? Maybe the record industry wouldn't be in so much trouble if they could learn how to distribute their damn records. I swear, the only record company that gets things to me on release date or earlier is merge records. Anyone else, I'm usually waiting at least 3 days after release date. Ok enough, this is bad karma for my odds of getting it today. I love subpop and I love preordering!

Bits and pieces, pleasures and disappointments

I didn't get a chance the other night when this finally hit me, but I thought Going Going Gone also, but are we for sure thinking Planet Waves or are we thinking Son Volt covering Going Going Gone? -
I thought this through. I preordered vinyl and will buy the cd in the store on release date. (I had to have actual cd copy, not just one that comes with the vinyl) This way if my pre order vinyl is delayed, no biggee, i got a copy in my hands one way or the other.

Yes, damn it. It is like Planet Waves type guitar lick and tone. I love Country Disappeared but was killing myself trying to place that lick and now it has been resolved. -
I have that shirt also, and I never once thought about the hissing radiator tunes connection. I'm the slowest Wilco fan in the world.

Positive: My favorite band has just put out some new tunes Negative: Too many musicians are now Wilco fans. It seems that since Glenn and Nels have gotten involved Wilco fan base has become focused on musicanship. I don't know about you but I never have been attracted to this band for musicianship. I was attracted becasue the quality of the songwriting, ear for music history, jeff's voice and they were fun. Sometimes I read posts about Glenn's drumming and Nels finger work and I think this is a Rush message board. -
Seth Rogan is also wearing a mustard colored Wilco rooster shirt in the preview for Funny People.

Jesusetc84.......this is more true than almost anything I've read on this board in the last 10 days. You hit the nail on the head. And I also never got the "experimental" tag. Friends would come to me around the YHF time and say crap like "what is with all those noises". I would think what about the 90% of the album that is just songs. It has always been a song oriented band with the exception of maybe half dozen songs.

I felt calm when I typed. I'm fine, I just think people are viewing this album through some distorted lense of critical art rock hipness. Hell maybe my expectations are different. I've been a fan since the beginning and I no longer go into any Wilco album thinking this is going to change my world. I go in thinking, this will be a great listen with a few a songs that rank up their with their best. Hey it is my favorite band, always great to hear from your favorite band. I'm just saying I'm not going into it needing for Wilco to prove anything other than they can create great songs. Th

sorry, just thought this review was actually extremly fair good/bad. And I still see people wanting blood on this record like it is the worst, most insulting music ever put to tape.
-
Here we go again, God forbid we be open to the idea that many like this album. What is that, "too positive, must be a fan". What is going to make people satisfied? If you are waiting for Pitchfork to call it the greatest dad rock album of all time I'm sure you only have to wait a few more weeks. Geez!

Oh, is it ok the applaud like crazy after every harmonica solo? There has to be a bad concert cliche list on this site somewhere.
-
Ok, how do I always get stuck next to the "hippy dancy girl" Anyway, most distracting, not the worst, just most distracting concert experience was watching a guy act out songs at a Lucinda Williams show in hand puppet fashion. Like if she sang the word butterfly, his hands did butterfly Napolean Dynamite style. I guess it was little loss since Lucinda live was like a deer in headlights. But that distracted me the entire night. I couldn't look away, and it made be feel funny on the inside.

Thanks Wilco for helping me know when to say when. I wouldn't be able to stop listening to the stream on my own! I wanted June 30th to be special and if may be afterall, withdrawals will be a full peak by then.

great review, spot on for my money. And he called out us fans for being unable to please. No, I realy thought this review said it all.

You have said this before, and I never get where you are coming from. Jay Farrar lyrics post original Son Volt (shudder) Sound of Lies (mor) nothing more or less? -
New album now pushed to Aug 11 FYI (hoping for june or july/major label crap I'm sure) My list Emotionalism The Gleam I The Gleam II Mignonette Four Thieves (haven't heard Carolina Jubilee or Country Was) Just get both gleams, burn them both to a disc and fall in love
-
I haven't heard a thing about this until today. Suppose to be released on July 7th. 2 discs with one disc pulled from studio albums, one disc of bsides, compilations and the like. Sounds good to me. How about some vinyl! Anyone know the tracklisting for this?

That Freel thing is funny in a kind of scary way. And as far as Reed Johnson talking steroids, I love when these guys come out and say "despite that guy testing positive, we have all cleaned up this crap" That holds water until the next week when guy B, C, D , E all test positive. Got to love the player's union.

I was pleasantly surprised by In The Reins. Not a huge Calexico fan, but that seemed to work. For me, I think I & W suffers from my expectations. With bands like Wilco or Ryan Adams I tend to like everything no matter what style or direction. The I & W's, Son Volts, M. Wards I tend to think of the one album that floored me and I want all of the remaining albums to be like that. Does that make sense? it isn't fair to the musician or the new album listening experience, but I get stuck in that.
