Reason #879 that Wilco is the best. Instead of getting all worked up about the inevitable (the album leaking this day in age). They just treat it with sarcasm and gentle ribbing. Very nice! And yes there was little to no restraint here.

I streamed! There I admitted it. I feel dirty now. Not as dirty as downloading a leak, but dirty none the less.

I'm with you on the natural acoustic and piano bit in theory (I don't hear the issues on WTA). But I disagree about the production on AGIB. It is my least favorite Wilco record (which is saying that cheese pizza is my least favorite pizza), and my issue is that I have to freaking strain to hear it. I always thought the production or mixing of that album was screwed. If Jeff wanted it to be quiet due to his health issues at the time that is fine, but I would like to hear the damn thing.

Ok, Listened upon the wilcoworld stream. One listen on bad speakers, and my opinion is therefore baseless. Not bassless. Anyway, I think Wilco is in their Let It Be (Beatles not Replacments) era. Solid, simple melodic songs with no major craziness or experimentation. Of course many viewed Let It Be as a huge let down and I'm sure this will be lumped in the SBS boat when it is all over. For me, this is all music to my ears. It isn't blowing me away necessarily but it is solid and sweet. Now my one initial complaint is Bull Black Nova. To me it sounds like one last attempt to be the exp

Wilco apparently has been watching the frenzy and have got into the mix

To start, I haven't heard a note and will not until it is streamed or I just wait till 6/30. But I've read every page of this thread and if the complaints (which are few) are all from those wanting more exploration and YHF part 2 then I'm sure I'll enjoy it just fine. I played SBS far more than AGIB and probably for longer than I played YHF. So I will wait patiently and as the fanboy I am, I'm sure I will have a joyous summer. It will be like xmas morning for me on 6/30.

I thought it was Taller?

I agree, I wouldn't lump MMJ in with this group (thanks for feeling my pain though). I think MMJ has a that extra factor that these bands don't. That is subjective though. My wife's new put down when I bring home some new music is often, "That sounds like the Shins or whatever music out there that has no feeling to it" According to my wife: Wilco Yes, Ryan Adams Yes, Avetts Yes, Shins or Rilo Kiley NO NO NO

Oh yeah, yours was one of the problem avatar's. See I'm not into dark things, tatoos, metal bands, and your avatar makes me think you are dark and creepy. See this is about me feeling better!
-
my right or your right? 1st Manny, then you, and then mr. Puljols. Or I will just believe all of you are the greatest ball players ever putting up numbers never seen before.

for me the Shins are the perfect example of what can be wrong with indie rock. In theory they should be awesome and don't get me wrong (I own everything they have made & they have some sweet tunes) but in the end it leaves me kind of ambivalent. Almost without feeling, meh, blah. I feel this way with bands like The Shins, Spoon, Death Cab, etc if you are following me. It sometimes is style over substance, the style being hip in a musicology way and hip in a melodic way, but lyrics and songs that leave you feeling a little blank. No? Am I off base?

No, I get why we aren't posting real pictures of us, I'm just saying some of the avatar's chosen give me a mental image that is difficult to shake. Like Mjzucko (sp) has a I believe Ted Leo on his. That makes me think nothing either way, or Lamrod's makes me think nothing either way. But a picture of a person who is not known makes me think, "hey is that you, or that can't be you"

I just wanted to say that some of your avatars mess me up. For example I just posted a reply on Pop Todds and his weird guy smoking a pipe makes me think I wouldn't like this guy he seems like a know it all. Or take speed racer's, I assume speed racer is younger female (and maybe that is true) but for some reason I don't think that is true. Or who is it with the picture of the guy with beard and glasses and then he revealed he doesn't have a beard and that picture isn't him. I'm telling you guys, my perception of all of you is directly related to your avatar.

That sounds like summer fun in an English sort of way. I hope that makes sense and is taken as a nice compliment!

what is everyone's thoughts on the Lips. I haven't heard the Xmas on Mars stuff and I wasn't on this board when AWWTM was released. Are they still anywhere close to making stuff as moving and relevant as Bulletin or Yoshimi. I don't think AWWTM is awful, but for the standard they set, it definetly falls off the radar lyrically especially. Just wondering?

DFW = Dallas/Fort Worth of course, that was bothering me that I couldn't figure that out

worth at least a weird feeling in my stomach due to the creepy album art?

unfortunatley, the 4 years old issue doesn't put you out of the woods for problems. I have three turntables a 1970 Zenith turntable/eight track and a 2003 Sony Turntable and another USB turntable model I got for xmas. Now my Zenith has issues, but it is a monster and i'm amazed how durable and nice it is. My Sony was the second of the same model I've gone through. My experience with 1-300 dollar new turntables is you'll get 5 years if your lucky (if you play them alot). they just don't make em how they use to. Now I can't speak for the high dollar items out there now, because I'm mostly

pennies on the tone arm will not have any impact on speed of the record, like I stated just above, the penny (or in my case nickel) on the tone arm provides weight and prevent hopping of the needle. Now in your situation I can say that is a new one. Sometimes when belts are about to go, the turntable will struggle to get to appropriate speed, but going faster than needed is a new one to me. Are you sure your not taking a stimulant?
-
blaming the victim, nice! No, in all seriousness this is true. Your tone arm may need adjustment, most likely not weighted down enough. If your skipping occurs during louder parts of songs, that is defintely tone arm issues. If it skips during softer parts that is likely a scratched record. Over time you will just get good at spotting in the store which scratches will cause major issues and which will cause the ambience of listening to vinyl with hisses and pops.

Also I will go anywhere (even Wal Mart) if they carry new vinyl. I make a special trip to Lawrence Ks. every year to The Love Garden just because they carry a crap load of new vinyl. If you are a Record Store selling only used vinyl and not carrying all the new vinyl and new reissues, I think you are just missing an opportunity.

buying vinyl on ebay is not good. You get want you want, and sometimes a decent deal, but the experience and excitement is no where the same. I reserve ebay for stuff that I just am having no luck finding anywhere. Coincidently analogman, T Rex Electric Warrior was one that I broke down and got on ebay. I swear after I did that I saw it at least a half dozen times in the following year. Record collecting is like that. You search for years, finally get it, and then you see it all the time.

Until the good people at Wilcoworld post it I'm not getting excited!
