I've been trying to sort this out in my head, and my belief is (relating to unreleased music leaking) that it has to be initiated by the artist or record company. Who else would have access to unreleased material? I can see a scenario where artist gives copy to friend and so called friend throws it out there into the world, but how do leaks of never released stuff get out? Sorry if I sound niave, but I want to confirm or deny my theory that it is record companies working to generate buzz and then they cry foul when it gets too big?

100% agreed. No need for that cost. I bought Blessing and a Curse on vinyl (i know I'm in the minority but it is my favorite DBT record) but will not by any of the others.

The only person consistently charging 40 per album that I have seen (Music Direct Catalouge) is Neil Young and I have politely said f off to that. For what it is worth I think Sub Pop has done vinyl the right way. It is usually 12 dollars, with always a free download coupon. They don't get into the whole 180 gram crap. It is simple and easy.

Easily his high water mark IMHO. Great record

Lambchop, Bonnie "Prince" Billy or M Ward?
nodep5 replied to stagerug's topic in Someone Else's Song
No The Letting Go isn't necessarily representative of other stuff of his. I however find the female vocal striking on that album. The last song on that album "I Called You Back" brings tears to my eyes everytime. BPB is hit and miss for me and scares me sometimes and I'm not sure if I consider any of his albums easy to listen to in one setting, but there are some beautiful gems throughout. The most accessible and normal is probalby Greatest Palace Music. -
All of the Son Volt albums except Okemah have been available on vinyl. You can still get Staightaways and WST on vinyl. Of course yes I own all Son Volt vinyl (the first incarnation of the band) I'm sure the economics of it aren't great, but It is a huge pet peeve (sp?) of mine when record companies or bands get in the way of music being heard.

A little surfing exploration has found that at least a handful of sites are stating that the Wilco Reissues will be a part of Record Store Day. The only one that appears recently updated is the afforementioned Waterloo Records site. The rest could be old news. Now to further confuse one site (addicted to vinyl blog) listed that the reissues were pushed to June (as of March 22nd). Who freaking knows, I will show up on Saturday and either spend a few bucks or not. Hey while were at it (ya know not getting vinyl reissues) how bout some good old Uncle Tupelo vinyl reissues. Who the hell

Lambchop, Bonnie "Prince" Billy or M Ward?
nodep5 replied to stagerug's topic in Someone Else's Song
I really could not imagine struggling to find M. Ward's Transistor Radio anything but beautiful. Bonnie Prince Billy's Sings Greatest Palace Music is a must have. I have never heard one Lamchop song in my life, so I'd go with what they up there said. -
That is all well and good about early ordering, but the site states that the preorder will be shipped on WED. So why should it matter when I order it? I just think that if you are going to say items will be shipped on 4/15, then it should specifically say prior to ordering that you have to pay 20 bucks for it to arrive on release date. Of course this same thing happened with my M. Ward preorder and I got that in two days. Who knows, but I love how it says will ship on 4/15 and some are already reporting that it is shipping.

Thank You. This of course adds a whole new level of confusion to this already confused issue. Is this old news that hasn't been updated? Are Wilco trying to slip one under our noses? Is this just teaser to get us into the stores? Crazy stuff.

where do you see that, I just went to the site and I didn't see that. Post a link!
-
I just preorderd myAshes DVD and when I got to the shipping part, It stated 21 something bucks for item to arrive on release date. I just went with Standard Shipping. With preorders do you have to shelve out that much money to get it on release date?

Yeah, I searched around last night for em, and found one blog that had them available, but the link expired. So not having much luck. I still will never understand why with digital downloading sites like amazon or itunes, why bands/record companies refuse to put it all out there. Idiots like me will pay a buck for some live track released on some promo album. I hate when buisness models make no sense. If it is recorded, release it, people will buy it. It can't cost a company anything to make a freaking mp3 available online, no shipping or distribution costs, no manufacturing costs. Anyw

Right, I have those three due to purchasing the Anodyne Reissue and the Anthology. I'm kind of a UT Sonvolt Wilco completist and the idea of having this the Long Cut EP is kind of neato. So yeah, I'm looking for Anodyne (live) and Fifteen Keys (live). I've bought all the originals UT and all the reissues so I feel ok asking for two live songs from a freaking promo album
-
I'm trying to track down the live cuts from this promo EP. I think I need help with finding Anodyne and Fifteen Keys. Any help would be great. This was promo item, so no harm I would think.

Bob, Neil etc......still relevant in 2009?
nodep5 replied to Wild Frank's topic in Someone Else's Song
The latest Dylan album I own (outside of the bootleg series) is Desire. The last Neil Young album I couldn't live without would be Silver & Gold. Outside of the Bootleg series and and Neil's Performance Series I could do without everything in this decade. -
Iron and Wine does make better records, but I appreciate your sentiment about Conor tackling bigger themes (I guess). As far as fan base, I don't know, it seems that his recent solo album was recieved with a degree of ambivalence or maybe I'm just not connected enough to know. Wide Awake to me is the high water mark. That album just sounds wonderful. Old Soul Song is top notch.

I loved Magic Potion because I thought it was the perfect embodiment of who this band is. Raw and dirty with massive riffs and guts. Nothing overtly attractive, just naked rawness. Attack & Release just seems to add unncessary dressing that takes a down and out American sounding band and trys to take them to the city on a fancy date? I'm going to lose this argument but that is cool.

my son's favorites are: Yeppe or Yeppers
-
I think there are maybe 3 songs on this record that hold up with their other stuff. I just think the over the top background singing and flute and other noises just seem like add ons so they wouldn't be criticized for sameness like they got around Magic Potion (which is my personal favorite) The production just seem non essential, like cheap add ons.
-
I have poor self esteem
-
Black Keys "Attack & Release" Can I get a "naked" version of this. The stupid Danger Mouse production makes it feel cheap or less authentic

Brilliant!

Wait a minute... who doesn't like Time Fades Away?

David Fricke on the IATTBYH documentary said it best when he called the CD a "dopey disk". In my opinion, vinyl records and the associated artwork are the only music related artifact worth getting worked up about. I buy 90% of all new music on vinyl, especially with the free download coupons that most labels offer. If the CD goes away, I will lose little to no sleep.
