I think Outtasite/Outtamind was about as close to anything Wilco ever got. I mean there was an MTV video that I actually saw on MTV. I heard it on modern rock radion not just AAA radio and my college roomates band covered it, which totally means that it was close to mainstream. Now IMHO, the one Wilco song that I thought could have been huge if marketed was "I'm A Wheel". How could that song not become huge in a radio sense?

In all seriousness (not that the incident wasn't serious) has anyone here ever contacted Wilco mgmt about anything. I was thinking we could contact just to find out what is up or lobby for the release of these on vinyl.

It was in the sleeve. Oh, I forgot to mention that the Sasquatch was humming Kicking Television the entire time.

I saw that article, worth reading, more about bad behavior at shows than Wilco, but funny.

Hayden's "Dynamite Walls" may be the best driving song ever day or night.

Ok stick with me on this one. I know I've been accused of being paranoid about this, but you guys have to believe me. This past weekend I was camping outside of Vancouver WA up in the foot hills of the Cascades and I had an encounter. What I saw was .....................unbelievalbe litteraly. First there were black helicopters of course............then the lights.........the lights were almost nauseating. A beam of light shot down from what appeared to be a disc like object (almost looked like a huge CD) No actually like a huge CD-R (no label was visible). Anyway, of course there was

No it's cool, just gets me fired up when I get the vibe of "you are an idiot" because you feel the way you do. Politics just blinds people and we all run to our corner and hold tight no matter what the reality of the situation is. Hell I don't know what that reality is, I just know that I'm not ignorant and that my opinion isn't useless. It just always confuses me when people who appear to be liberal minded are the most closed minded about things. I hate the "you are cool as long as you agree with me" attitude. Anyway, this whole thread of course has nothing to do with the actual new musi

Ok, I made the mistake of even commenting on something that will never resolve itself, and I am now going to only post about music, because of this type of mindset. I thought I said in a nice way that it is cool to have an opinion just be respectful to the idea that not everyone shares it. I guess that is too much and I guess from your perch you are always going to know the right way to think. So can I have permisson to post about wilco or am I too ignorant and lost on that subject as well. Hell I love politics, I love all of us ranting and arguing about things that the big wigs in Washing

That I can get behind. Sweet album cover.

That is cool, just keep in mind or be open minded to the fact that some people don't see it your way and didn't view the past 8 years as awful and may be feeling equally the way you felt then now about the current administration and policies. Compasssion works both ways and not just when you agree with it. I'm cool with the fact that people hated the bush administration (i don't want to hear a song about it), I don't think it is cool when someone gets jumped on for having an opposing opinion. The post that started this basically said, "this is not the world I've been living in and I don't b

Ok, can the new album come out already. I'm just amazed we still can purchase albums after 8 years of tyrrany. Thank God that is over and we can listen to rock and roll again. Sorry for the sarcasm but that is how I feel about politics. If anyone hear truly believes in one party or another than that is cool. I just don't quite see it as being all that different. tell me again who is truly on my side? I don't see that way, I think I'm in this one alone, not waiting for a congressman or president to speak on my behalf anytime soon. Back to the tunes now.

Just because he stated an opinion doesn't make him a right wing nut job. He just doesn't want this band to become overtly political.
-
I don't really care what the song is like (in terms of this argument). Actually I give Tweedy enough credit to assume that the song won't be some overt political statement. What I think is sad is Tweedy (who I think is a bright man) is just acting like a pawn or puppet for Rolling Stone. It is speaking to the choir. Rolling Stone is just aching for someone like Tweedy to bash Bush and what does he do? It would be the equivalent of Shawn Hannity interviewing Toby Keith. It is obvious to the little circle of thought so it does nothing but make people pat themselves on the back for having

Ditto: I said this in a post a few weeks back relating to the new DVD. I think Wilco have recently walked a fine line with this political thing, and I think they are at times starting to fall victim to the socially conscious crap like this. You are in a rock band, and you have a forum, I know, but let's not become U2 light. this kind of crap is tired, and I was hoping that one CHANGE that would come from an Obama admisitration would be not having to hear tired crap like this anymore because the world would be so freaking perfect with our new president!

I know here in Columbia MO, the local radio (which wouldn't play a Wilco song if it wasn't some clear channel authorized deal) played Late Greats and Heavy Metal Drummer. But you are right, according to Wikipedia it was I'm A Wheel of of AGIB. Was there a single released from Kicking Television?

I know this is lame and as a lifelong Wilco fan I should know this, but does anyone have a list of all the official Wilco Singles (if you can call them that) including the Mermaid Ave albums. Here is what I believe I can confirm, what am I missing? Box Full of Letters Outtasite/Outtamind Can't Stand It Shot In The Arm California Stars Secret of the Sea Heavy Metal Drummer War on War (i have seen the cd single of this) The Late Greats What Light Is that it? I'm wondering if Casino Queen and Monday were ever official singles. Any help would be lovely?

Ok, lets start with the fact that we all love Wilco right? I mean we wouldn't be lurking around here in the first place if we didn't have some strong positive regard for this band. Now that being said, I'm cool with the fact that Sky Blue Sky didn't do it for some of those on this board, and I'm not a Wilco cheerleader who refuses to ever make a negative comment about the band. However, some of the posts about the new album that none of us have heard have this negative undertone that I just don't understand. I wonder what people want from this band. Do you want them to be aimless envelope

Thanks everyone! Went to the library and they had almost everything being discussed here. I'm starting with No Direction Home.

Well I'm going to dive in a little deeper with mr. Dylan. I have never read a full bio due to there being about 500 books on Dylan. What are the two or three top bio's to check out? Is there anything similar to Neil Young's Shakey in terms of walking through the career album by album with info one wouldn't generally know. (side note: Neil is quite upsetting these days) Any help would be appreciated.

Why are we staring at the back of a big fat bald guy? In a theatre? I don't know, it was a gut level initial reaction of what the hell is this?

ACL was really strong and also got me to rethink this record. And no they shouldn't have left off Highly Suspicious because then my two year old son wouldn't rock out as much as he does. It is the album cover that needs to go. I want to get past it, but that is soooooooo awful. I can't think of an album cover in recent memory that comes close. Oh, yes I can, Son Volt The Search. That is funny stuff.

You know Magnet isn't a bad magazine and once again I think lists are fun for the exact reason of us all getting worked up. But whoever mentioned Lester Bangs is spot on. What I have read of Lester Bangs, even though I usually don't care for bands he wrote about like MC5 or the Velvets, I love how he can write about music without writing about music. Music journalism today is awful. My wife likes to read record reviews in Paste or Uncut and she laughs at the pseudo intellectual crap that passes for music critique. I would rather have a two word review stating "this sucks" than read about
