I don't disagree with you, and that is why I personally wouldn't make this an issue or focus on my band's (not that I have one) "music" DVD. That is why I hate when movie stars or rock musicians start preaching. I'll admit the music direct posting looks pretty legit. They state an actual release date and summary on the product etc etc. It is odd that Wilco HQ hasn't said a word, specifically since they are promoting the April 18th DVD which is the same date music direct gives for the vinyl re releases. My assumption is, that if you buy the DVD you get all the vinyl re releases for free and therefore they are trying to keep that hush hush.

When I first started collecting vinyl about 10 years ago, I really got into Badfinger. One of those bands that we all know a few songs, but don't realize that we should have known so much more. Their second album, it is self titled right? Is unbelievable. Anyway. Sad story.

Well, as I guess was the inspiration for the OP, but I'll say it again. Wilco releasing their enitre catalouge on vinyl seems to be the biggest no brainer known to man. If it doesn't happen it will be #10956 of why I don't understand buisness, especially the music buisness.

For me, I do notice the difference in sound at times when listening to vinyl vs. CD, but don't consider myself a huge wiz on the subject. The experience and attention required and size of album art relating to vinyl makes it a more pleasant experience. The idea of sitting in a chair, putting down that needles, staring at the album art and not being able to skip over or pause the damn thing is really cool, even if the sound quality isn't perfect.

Further more, can you go and purchase every Wilco record and likely this DVD at places like Best Buy, crappy music stores inside the Mall, Barnes and Noble etc etc etc. I guess that is my point, if you are going to make a commentary on this type of thing, be prepared to put your money where your mouth is. You know, if you hate foreign oil, are you driving a SUV? If so......................hypocritical. I'm a little concerned about this whole small buisness vs. corporate goliath thing as it relates to the DVD. Wilco has recently walked a fine line between being an intellectual rock band and self important rock band. This is starting to smell like U2 territory. This I think sums it up. Thank you John Smith. I believe it is perception. They were cool till the cool kids starting paying attention which immediately makes them uncool, but they haven't really changed. I for one will say the vocals have definetly improved, but they lost a little of the sweet groove along the way.

I get it. Luckily now in my life I don't listen to radio and I have no friends, but I get where you are coming from. It reminds me of college and friends of mine jumping on a bands wagon the minute they got radio play and not giving a crap until that happened. It made me dislike bands just on that principle. To this day I'm apprehensive about Radiohead's OK Computer because my roomates who were musical idiots bought that album because of the hype. Not a great example, I should have mentioned Creed or Tonic or Sister Hazel but you get my point.

No, I didn't mean to have the read that I think the Black Crowed are mindless. Far from it. And as far as KOL being mindless, I guess I mean chicks and drugs mindless. As far as MMJ and KOL they to me are so far different and I consider MMJ as more indie rock experimental than straight forward. Don't apologize for evil urges (i know you kid) but that record has a groove like no other.

ACL was great. And maybe that got me fired up, but I just started thinking about how few bands are out there making quick 2:30 minute catchy ass songs that are not completely mindless and mainstream but close enougth be mindless that makes it about as rock and roll as it gets. Maybe I'm hearing it wrong, but there are not enough straight forward rock bands like KOL the black keys, the black crowes.

Ok, I don't know why I'm defending KOL because in the grand scheme of music they are probably #573 on my list of favorite bands, but for what they do I really enjoy them as I stated earlier. Maybe And I'll agree that Because of the Times is their least consistent, but their most recent sounds to me like they have just finely tuned what they had going on. It isn't as raw as the first two, but I can't deny the quality of the songs. Same issue in Columbia, Marc's guitar and mic were both louder. Not terribly so, but enough for me to notice his sloppy guitar playing. Seriously though, this was a small quibble. They were on and put a nice evening of solid tunes.

Well, I watched Kings of Leon on Austin City Limits on Saturday night and I've officially decided that I really like this band. (At least I like this band for what they are).
