Thanks for the tip, but for the most part I try to keep education out of my music experience. I go by what my ears appreciate and along the way I'm educated through discovery and understanding history. I don't need education to know that there are a billion excellent musicians in the world, probably a handful on Via Chicago, but that doesn't make any of them interesting musically. If we were giving out cookies to great musicians Jeff Tweedy for example would be crumbs.

There is hope again (why I choose to believe the June 2nd date is beyond me). Here lately I've become more of a Dylan fan over Young (which for me is saying alot). Neil just seemed to be losing touch and musically lately has been a joke. Dylan seems to be gaining touch and making listenable music here lately

This is why I give little credence to talent alone. It is what I call the "Liberace or Eric Clapton Issue". Just because you have talent doesn't make you a strong artist and definetly doesn't make you original in anyway. Go be in a symphony and play classical music if you want talent. Give me J Mascis any day over this crap.

Bee Thousand is the greatest record ever
nodep5 replied to hardwood floor's topic in Someone Else's Song
This scares me! How can it be the greatest album ever if I have never heard it? There is just too much music out there. I have the album of GBV with "Glad Girls" (has some jets on the cover) I sound like the worlds worst GBV fan don't I? Anyway, that album didn't strike me as all that great, but don't go telling me that I haven't heard the greastest album in the world. It makes me wonder what else I'm missing. I'm glad I've seen the greatest movie ever made.................... -
That unfortunately is not accurate. I have never changed my setting speed for a full length vinyl.

I appreciate old country blues, but the only blues that ever held my attention was Bob Dylan circa 64-66 and the Black Keys. I know that makes me lame on many levels, but the genre tends to bore me and has been so prostituted by the Claptons of the world. You know, sing a line and play my riff and the whole time act like I'm doing something painful and unbelievable. Kind of tired.

why does the 180g allow for less songs on each side? Either way, I agree, new vinyl being chopped up to 4 different sides is ridiculous. It ruins the flow and IMHO takes away from the art of sequencing an album. Who sits around saying, "I would love to open Side E with an instrumental"????

2000 was back in the day for me an my record collecting

That is fraternity brother thinking (sorry for offending anyone). I loved seeing Son Volt live back in the day. Yes Jay is mute and the show is one dimensional, but damn they were tight. That being said I always got the feeling that the 50 frat boys to my left were just there to hear "Drown". I guess I shouldn't complain.

As rare as the original Summerteeth vinyl is, it might as well be made out of 14 carart gold. The answer is: I don't know, sorry. Speaking of 180 gram vinyl. I own more vinyl than anyone should, but by no means am I an audiophile freak. What do people notice about 180 gram outside of the fact that it makes for one heavy record?
-
Ok, why would you not want to admit that you listen to "Sumday"? What a sweet record.

Yet another reason for a record player. This is the exact reason I started record collecting back in the day (2000). ARS wasn't the exact reason, but wanting older music on the cheap was one of the main reasons. Do I want to but a 15 dollar Amercia CD? No. Do I now own 4 America records that I probably spent 5 dollars total on? Yes. Does this make me cool? Debatable. Is that the correct spelling of that word? I have no idea1

nodep5 says that allowing someone to walk all over you and not returning the favor will leave you posting a thread of frustration on via chicago confucius............geez!

I never quite got the SummerTeeth cover. Is it a body with a moon head? Or is it a person blowing a huge bubble? I like the cover and it is unlike any other simplisitic style Wilco album cover, but I never quite understood.

I've been subscribing for a few years now to Paste and every year I have a week long internal argument over why the hell I send them more money. I think it is desperation because every now and then they will send me a bone with an Iron and Wine cover or something like that. All of these publications claim that the smaller format in magazines is due to people's lack of desire to sit down with long articles. Who are these people who just want to read a one and a half page article that sheds no light but tells you what you already know? Anyway, I have been buying American Songwriter ma

I See Monsters if freaking unbelievalble on this tour. He opened his set with this when I saw him and I lost it.

ok? I live in a college town with one independent record store that is participating with record store day and I am on a freaking first name basis with the clerks who have informed me that the store is about 400 square feet with central air..........................what has got to you Louie? It was a simple question that I posed.

no encore in Columbia or KC MO a few weeks back.

Aquarium Drunkard has a brief piece on the new DVD
-
No, it wasn't harsh at all, I just was wondering if you had any direct knowledge. Wilco mgt is pretty good at gearing the base up for the next release. It seems like the whole YHF ordeal has taught them something about timing and marketing. AGIB and especially SBS were super marketed. I would assume that they would have the DVD and the re releases well timed to gear up for the June release of "Wilco Happens" (just joking I have no idea)
-
Cool info. Thanks! Bob dylan 7" Sweet Has anyone ever been on record store day in the previous year or so that this has occurred. How limited are supplies? Do I need to line up at opening to get the Wilco DVD or some of these goodies?
-
Thanks for the tip and heads up, but I don't think this hardly solves the mystery, unless you have some connection despite noticing this on www.acousticsounds.com. Wilco mgmt may have not noticed this posting like they did with MusicDirect and therefore haven't thought to ask them to pull the listings. Anyway, I figure sitting here on March 11th, that if this was happening on April 18th, that Wilco mgmt would have announced it. No reason for it to be secret right? Now if you have some connection and you came on here for your first post to shed light, then that is cool.

Who are the 5 best live bands you've ever seen?
nodep5 replied to hardwood floor's topic in Someone Else's Song
1. Wilco (circa Being There Tour) 2. Ryan Adams (circa Gold Tour) 3. Bare Jr. (first album Tour) -
I love that album cover. Note to bands: Bears on album cover ..........cool! Fat bald guys on album covers.................not cool! Also I'm not saying the album cover has to have meaning, but it is the first thing I see and it does leave an impression on me. Right or wrong.

Live or Studio Album: Which do you like more?
nodep5 replied to Clint09eastwood's topic in Just A Fan
I think I'm in the minority here, but I can honestly say that I have always struggled with live stuff. I always feel like it is a reproduction of the album but with mistakes and poor sound quality. Now that being said, I love seeing music live and probably three of my favority records ever were recorded "live" with few overdubs. But actually sitting down and listening to Kicking Television for example does little for me.
