  1. The truth is we all like HMD, we just don't like the intro drum kit edit.
  2. No this thread is not overrated and "Gym Teacher Man" is creepy! I think internet message board is creepy by definition. I shower after every post.
  3. Ooh, Hotel Arizona is a good under rated one. Nice job Oh I change my under rated easily Dash 7 that song is beautiful!
  4. I kinda tried on Bon Iver, not feeling it. I like lists like this too. It makes us stand up and take sides. Causes us to yell and scream and run and hide. Anyway my personal most overrated Wilco song is ....................................(not that anyone cares).......................................................................... .Poor Places My most underrated is......................................Pot Kettle Black
  5. Oh but he was terribly wrong about Impossible Germany. I am not a fan of guitar solos but there are a few that will never get old. Allman Bros Blue Sky, Queen We Will Rock You, and I definetly throw Impossible Germany in that crowd. Amazing and never tires.
  6. We are creepy here at Via Chicago no doubt. I'm not sure about the whole vocal issue on Via Chicago? However his discussion about Heavy Metal Drummer and AM is true for alot of folks on this message board. I think a lot of later fans of the band YHF onward do look down on the straighforward AM and the overt simplisitic poppiness of Heavy Metal Drummer. I do agree he is wrong about the Son Volt thing. I don't know, anyone who views Anodyne as remarkable is ok in my book. It is my favorite album of all time afterall.
  7. I got on board with It Still Moves and in many ways I think that is a truely awesome artistic statement in a natural way for MMJ. I really bought into the Z hype and I love it, but with time, I think it misses a little bit. Evil Urges is a scattershot of everything MMJ is and can be and unfocused, but the songs are great. Of course, there are some lyrically weak areas (which I have always thought was their weak spot as a band), but this is strong stuff.
  8. Ok, just a thought here for today. You know, keeping my indie cred through the years has allowed me the ability to train myself to appreciate music that isn't overtly awesome. You all know what I mean. You read a few reviews telling you how great and amazing something is and you listen to it and you think "what am I missing?" Overtime you learn to appreciate the nuances, but still the experiences leaves you a little cold and trying to hard. My example would be the last Grizzly Bear album (yellow room?) I heard countless reviews that discussed the brilliance of the record and then Jeff Tw
  9. Ok, I guess I saw something entirely different.
  10. we should have a what are you reading thread. It wouldn't have to be music related all the time, but just in general. I could really gain some cred with my wife if I walked in the door with great book advice. I think the last book I really enjoyed was a month ago I read Sherman Alexie (?) book about Adventures of a part time Indian . I will come back with the real title in a moment. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian
  11. This is crazy how quickly the whole music mag thing fell apart. I went from (a few years ago) thinking Wow!, I love HARP (this magazine was written for me), and I love No Depression (classy magazine with long reads) and everynow and then Paste entertains me. Within a year I'm left with just Paste (which has become a shell of what it once was). Pretty disapointing overall. I occasionally pick up Uncut or American Songwriter at the store, but mostly am just left rereading Neil Young's bio Shakey. I guess I could read "real" books?
  12. Not to bring your buzz down, but I have seen Lucinda once, I think it was around the time of her Essence or World Without Tears tours. I left thinking that she is just one of those musicians better left to listen to on record. She struck me as completely uncomfortable (deer in headlights) She had a music stand with her lyric book beside her on stage that she stared at all night. (Which I found especially odd during songs like Lonely Girls which only have so many words anyway) Anyways, I'm just surprised at what you had to say. I guess I'm wondering if she should be given another try in a
  13. I'm in the I enjoy SBS group. I feel like we have to take sides? Anyway, I will never likely have the initial emotional impact to a Wilco album like I did with BT or ST (just because life changes and so on). In fact the first time I heard Either Way was probably the closest I got to that feeling since those earlier albums. I will say this however, if Wilco takes alot of the advice on this board and makes records just based on artistic "edge" or merit, that is when I will likely stop loving this band and their music. Someone earlier said "Walken" was musically akward. Ok? I'm not sure wh
  14. Well I saw Ryan last night, and I was in no way disappointed. Close to a two hour show (no encore). I'm not going to post entire setlist right now, but it was heavy on Easy Tiger and Cold Roses with only one song from Cardinology, two from Heartbreaker, two from Love is Hell, no Rock and Roll, two from Gold and one from Jacksonville City Nights. Anyway a number of highlights, with the opening song "I See Monsters" may have been the strongest number. They rocked the crap out of that one. The Cardinals have a super tight groove and seem perfect for Ryan. "Oh My Sweet Carolina" was ama

I'm back and I have to admit that I failed. The link and subsequent search yielded no conclusive results. Don't give up, don't be denied!

twilight zone stuff going on here! I'm going to try that link right now. If I make it, I will tell everyone about what it is like.
  17. Going to see Mr. Adams tonight in Columbia (unless it is canx for God knows what reason between now and 7pm) I'll tell you all (who care) how it goes tomorrow. You know, did I hang out with Mandy Moore, did I get kicked out for yelling Summer of 69 again. I kid. Looking foward to tonight and I hope I get the Awesomely Awesom Ryan and not the out of control nightmare I got last time around.
  18. Entire record is growing on me. Better than initial impressions and I also am enjoying "oh lonesome me" Took me awhile to get past that it wasn't Neil's unbelievalbe version and I can say I've never heard the original Don Gibson but M. Ward's has some sweet touches especially at the end. For what it is worth, my wife thought Lucinda's vocals were a bit much. I don't know they worked for me.
  19. I have also found this album to be comforting during tough times. "Either Way" specifically, even though it may seem simplistic lyrically on the surface. Sometimes the truest crap hits home the most. That song captures the whole idea of our inability to control everything in our lives. Great Record! and Good Luck! Maybe the sun will shine today.... The clouds will roll away Maybe I won't be so afraid I will try to understand... Either Way (crazy simple and crazy good)
  20. Ok your review makes me feel better. If the whole Wal mart bit was more related to old venues I can get behind that, and it seems like something a band WOULD know more about. For any of us Missouri folks, it is the difference between Mississippi Nights and the Pageant. Night and Day.

Who is paranoid now...............suckerz!!!!!!!!! I don't really talk like this in real life
  22. No, it had to be said. RS have been followers not leaders for quite a while. They are on the polar opposite of Pitchfork in terms of hype/trendsetting. I think the truth and reality lies somewhere in between those two entities. New Springsteen 5 stars. That is rich! Haven't heard a note of it, but I can only imagine.
  23. I thought the same thing, and I thought "that is Batman stupid" Then I thought, "Why would Batman want to blow up a studio with Wilco recording in it?" It didn't make sense.

How was I patting anything? And I hope in time (or upon the release of the vinyl) that you will forgive me!

    Wilco Vinyl

Ok, this is insane. I went to Music Direct this morning and the re releases were there. And you are right, now they are gone. In the meantime, Wilco HQ has released an email with absolutely no mention of the vinyl. Ok, not to sound paranoid, but Wilco HQ is monitoring our discussion here on Via Chicago and have put an end to the Music Direct listings. This is really bizarre. Once again, what kind of buisness sense is this. Wilco HQ: "people seem to be really interested and longing for Wilco vinyl, we better put an end to that and make it impossible!" according to music direct
