I watched 10 minutes like I said before, because every year I need to remind myself of the absurdity. No it isn't some hipster cred thing either. Even the icons seem to do things that are contrived, and the fake "oh we love you and have listened to every one of your records" fake worshipping standing ovations are contrived. And the Grammy's are always a few years behind. IE, A Ghost Is Born wins Grammy's after the hype of YHF. And sorry if I don't know the difference between Jay Z and Kanye. I'll take your and Ryan Adams word for it that Jay Z is something special, but I have never owned

Have we had an arguement about the merits of Wilco post Jay Bennet recently? I'm joking, please don't!

SBS on vinyle IS the only way. There is a softness that fits that album that doesn't translate on compact discu or mp3

I don't get why so many people on this board, who I consider extremly knowledgable about music and have really cool tastes, spent time watching that crap fest. I'll never understand why the movies get a critic based awards circuit, but music gets a freaking popularity contest with high school behavior in the worst way. I watched in all 10 total minutes last night. What I saw will haunt me today. Some dude (Kanye I think ) rapping over a Coldplay song. Radiohead sinking in their seats when the camera panned to them, and career awards being glossed over because the footage of the artists we

I called the radio station to request a song

Around 1999 I had a long phone conversation with a DJ in Birmingham AL (who called me after I sent him a hate email). He did a Sunday morning show called Reg's Coffee House, which I informed him was too heavy on any female musician who ever picked up a guitar and informed him I was pissed that he dismissed the new Wilco album on air (Summerteeth). We spoke for an hour and the entire time he wanted to debate me on Train vs. Wilco. To this day that conversation makes me laugh and pissed off at the same time. I think I won the debate. -
Hey Jeff, there is this album called AM, check it out! I like the inclusion of Kingpin, and I'm sure this will all be great, but kind of disapointed with this track listing. I'm so bored with Handshake Drugs with the exception of the noise jam at the end. Anyway, not trying to complain too much, but this seems a lot like Kicking Television (a little heavy on the new stuff) With the residency shows and playing the entire catalogue I guess I was hoping for more of a mix.

Growing up on Tupelo and watching Wilco evolve through the years, I can say the SBS was refreshing in many ways. I was hopeful the first time I heard Walken live prior to album's release that the band would return to the days of fun straight forward tunes. (not to say that I don't absolutely love Summerteeth - YHF- AGIB) I think it was a good turn for Wilco to drop the whole we have to reinvent rock music every time out and wow the critics with our artiness. I think Wilco started believing the hype a little to much around AGIB. After a while that type of crap just becomes contrived and pre

Ben Kweller provides a country mixtape and includes Wilco's Passenger Side He comments that he spoke to Tweedy about AM around the time of the Summerteeth Tour and that Tweedy was dissing the album (shocker). Anyway, the funny thing is, is that last week after a few listens of Ben's new record Changing Horses I mentioned to my wife that it reminded me of AM in that it was what I call cute country pop music. By the way, I mean that in a really good way, AM is still one of my favorites from Wilco. I know I should be a music critic, please stop, cmon. Here is the link: NYLON: Country Mu

I got Trace off the Son Volt website 3 or 4 years ago. That was a must have when I started actively collecting new vinyl.

I see, you are making sense now Analogman. Well for the most part I never do illegal things, so I will stray away from what I'm wanting and assume some day Wilco will purge the entire vaults in a Neil Young like fashion.

ok, so the consesnus is that, despite my whining, I need to download a free FLAC converter and move forward with life. And so you guys have some respect for me, I have learned how to use I tunes to transfer WAV to MP3 when I'm uploading vinyl, so if I can get FLAC To WAV like Cryptique said then I'm set. A few questions: 1. The FLAC Frontend free install (does this work with MAC OS X 2. Analogman went on about wanting stuff illegally and this and that. Why when you bring up Mp3's do people get all wierd. But FLAC and Torrents are all up and up? Am I confused? 3. Thank you all for y

Ok, I know this will sound greedy, lazy and probably tick off the FLAC crazed taping community, but It is worth a shot. I own everything Wilco has put out for sale, including most sountrack stuff etc etc. There are a few things missing and I know I can over the Owl & Bear archive, but I don't have any desire to play around with FLAC and technologies I don't understand (I sound old) Does anyone care to share stuff like the TP is Whipping Me or Any Major Dude or All Over the Place EP stuff on good old crappy sound MP3s. Or wish to direct me where I can access these on good old crappy MP3

I know this won't help, but REM for me, is the perfect example of a band you are suppose to love, but can never get into. I think it is M Stipe's singing or lyrics, but I never feel connected. Trust me I have tried. I own 4 or 5 early REM records on vinyl and most everything from GREEN through the 90's. Just when you are making your best of don't forget E Bow The Letter off of New Adventures in Hi Fi and don't forget At My Most Beautiful off of UP. That is as far as I will go with this and my recomendations.

Wow, first I was able to get the first three Son Volt records on vinyl, then Strangers Almanac now, AM and Summerteeth. It is like i'm 21 all over again. How about Brooklyn Side or Down By The Old Mainstream. This kicks1

now there is some math I can get behind. I have no clue what you are talking about, but it looks right?

I'm telling you, I put this thread up yesterday and Look what happens. Freaking cosmic. Oh Oh my! My sweet AM on vinyl.

I've seen similar listings for Star Wars and Indiana Jones on Blu Ray, both of which have no tentative release date announced. Alrighty Then

my prayers have been answered (possibly) through the power of the internet. It is cosmic.

Changing Horses, Tight Knit, Ready For The Flood......

Changing Horses 2nd listen right now. I'm digging this album, but I think the first song Gypsy Rose is an interesting cut for the first track. -
The original post hurt my heart. AM was the world to me. Sometimes I hate to hear people (including Tweedy) dismiss it as some half hearted quickie that they tossed around willy nilly. I agree with the earlier post about it all comes down to where you started with Wilco, but I would take the playful innocence of the early records over the serious art rock of YHF anyday. But that is just being picky because I love every Wilco record. You know I even prefer the long hair Tweedy from the AM album pictures. I saw them on the AM tour and it was real nice. Solo acoustic encores of Gun and

Satan Your Kingdom... ? I think that is right?

This is what I'm talking about. If I'm Jeff Tweedy and I'm aware that Summerteeth (the greatest Wilco album IMHO) is going for 600 bucks on vinyl, I say "This is crazy, let's repress the freaking thing" You think this would be important to him.
-
I just don't get it when Bands don't take the opportunity for a quick buck. I'm assuming the market for Wilco vinyl would be pretty strong. Even if they don't make a buck, they should know their fan base has a high percentage of vinyl junkies and it would be a nice gift. Hey if you can put out miniature figurines of the band or frisbees you can put out some stinking vinyl.
-
Does anyone know why a vinyl loving band like Wilco doesn't have their enitre catalogue on vinyl? They put everything out on vinyl since being on nonesuch, which led me to believe that the Reprise stuff wasn't out due to contract issues, but Being There always seems available via vinyl so that blows that out of the water. I know AM was availalbe at the time and I've seen Summerteeth on Ebay one time. Anyway, Cmon Wilco!

I went into reading this article ready to be annoyed, but I almost left convinced. I tend to agree with the majority of things stated hear, most importantly that Wilco shows use to be so much less serious and flat out intense than they are now. However, I would never wish the band to be dealing with drug use issues and inner turmoil for the sake of good art, so the new Wilco is likely healthier and I hope healthy people can make great music. Also, I think musician types will view Nels Cline and his guitar technique as more astute and skilled, but I think Jay fits the Neil Young, let'g g
