Are you kidding? My method that I did about 4 months ago was to use my vinyl ripping software and lift the needle when the drone began. I'm going to try this I tunes time thing. I get why you would want to do this edit thing (because I wanted to also). It ruins a mix cd to have 12 minutes of that going on. Oh, what is the last song on Whiskeytown's Pneumonia? I can edit that one too, it has a crappy hidden track and goes on for 8 minutes or so. Sweet!

So I've been on a huge TREX kick lately and it came to me (I can't be the first one with this thought) that KOL are this generations TREX. Simple, repetitive, groove based sexual innuedo rock that is for the masses, panned by critics, can't break in the US, loved in the UK, finnally break in the US, get loaded on booze and coke and start the inevitable downward slide. Ok the last part hasn't happened yet, but I think this analogy works and I love both of these bands. So I'm happy.

from a singer/songwriter perspective I have to admit (although it is my least favorite Wilco album) that AGIB contains some real nuggets. "Hell Is Chrome" is lyrically unbelievable if you think about it. That being said I personally think it would be tough to top "New Madrid". I think it is memorable, historically based, timeless, etc etc etc.

Well Josh rolled through Columbia MO last night and although I have been a huge fan since Animal Years, I have never seen him live. He is definetly a different experience. At first it came off a bit cheezy or like a band of theatre majors (sorry), but it became contagious. Really great show. Josh should be on the radio, he has some great tunes. Played 3 new songs for an album planned for Jan 2010. Highlight was a tie between Josh playing Tempation of Adam with every light in the theatre turned off and him having ground level sing to the balcony during the end of Empty Heart. Great show.

I would love to see this released. It is essentially a finished product and ready and awesome. Even more, my version is poor sound quality.

No No No, I really like that song. That song has some weird vibe about it. Sink Ships and Stop would have my vote as songs I could do without

His ability to create music of all sizes and form is what I think is so amazing. Take most indie music (which I love) out of the indie music context and it would likely get swallowed up. Ryan has the ability to transcend that. "Magick" or "Halloween Head" take a lot of crap around here, but those songs work on a larger more mainstream level, which is cool in a non cynical way and non jaded way because I know that that is just the tip of the ice berg. And he takes chances (which some people call needing an editor). I have never, however, listened to a Ryan Adams album and thought "man I wi

I agree, in the sense that it backed him into the corner of the new dylan/singer songwriter thing. I think we all see now that that is just one side of a multi talented dude. I think Heartbreaker also had an astehtic of indie/DIY credibility that was never really Ryan as much as it was likely the situation at the time.

Great Song, love the cheezy background vocals

From the perspective of this message board it appears people have given Cardinology a pretty good chance and that is cool. Also it appears a good deal of us really are into "Love Is Hell" I think LIH is his masterpiece and I think the critical response at the time is purely based on writer's views of Ryan as an individual and not the music within. Who doesn't get chills when you hear "Please Do Not Let Me Go"?
-
Well I've said it before on this thread and I'll continue to defend Cardinology (even though it is his weakest album). Yes, it was the first Ryan Adams album for me that contained a few songs I just couldn't listen to, but it really connected with me. Overall Wilco is my favorite band and they have challenged me and broadened my horizons of what music can be and what songs can do. That being said, no one has ever consistently connected with me like Ryan. I was just listening to The Elizabethtown Sessions and it is just amazing what this guy does. I mean that is a sloppy mess of songs t

that was extremly warm and charming. Nice surprise

Fine, but that makes no sense to me, and I have stated this before, but this is a Wilco Message Board. Why come on here to just be negative about the band that the message board is about? I can see someone saying, like my wife for example, "This is easily my least favorite record, I'm struggling to like any of the songs all that much" as oppose to "there isn't one note that sounds right in my head". I would argue if you are not hearing ANYTHING you like on WTA or SBS then you didn't really care for Wilco all that much to begin with, because the central elements (JEFF TWEEDY/HIS VOICE/HIS SO

Brent's post directly above that states there isn't ONE good thing about the new album is kind of what I'm talking about. Crap, how about the bass on BBN, how about the double tracked vocals on Solitaire, how about the album art, how about the retail price (FREE)? Who is coming on here to get a rise?
-
1. I didn't know my behavior has been so out of line around here? (I guess that is the self aware part) 2. I do value my opinion and I think "Walken" kicks butt in a 70's Little Feat kind of way and I'm glad to hear you don't hate that song, because it is fun and we all need fun. 3. I never post here just to piss someone off or get a rise. I just don't filter my words when I find something silly or absurd. Now I know what I find silly or absurd can be subjective, but I do feel strongly about Wilco and I originally came here to hear from others who feel strongly about this band, and I just f

I will be careful here to not sound "nonsensical" or "full of myself" and I will ignore the "relevance" rant because I want to focus on the message and not what my English 101 professor would think. Which by the way, I used the word "relevance" to describe the lack there of relating to this message board if a vocal number of individuals continue to have unrealistic expectations of a rock and roll band. So I'm feeling ok about my use of the word. Not to sound like a jerk, but the reaction to my thoughts on SBS got me going. People want to pick every little word apart when all I was saying w

Ok, I come on this board quite regularly and politely disagree in silence and then I speak out about something I find silly and people don't want to dicuss the point, just the way the point was raised. Are you all telling me you don't see my point about the SBS criticism?
-
No, take me out of it. My point wasn't about my opinion, it what about the outspoken opinion of many on this board relating to the merits of that album. I guess what i'm saying is that there is no perspective on this board when it comes to how SBS is discussed. Is it really THAT awful of a record? Do you REALLY listen three times and then never again? Does it REALLY bore you to tears? This is silly. Opinion or no opinion this album is likely in the top 15 percentile of decent albums in the past 10 years. If it is anything it isn't unlistenable. It is like some cool badge of honor to s

Just a thought here: The more people on this board try to convince others that SBS is the worst album ever released, the relevance of this board will become just another obsessive/impossible to please/ranting fan site that no one cares to visit because it is all negativity. I'm cool with SBS not being someone's gig, but you'd think it was a Starship album considering the way people talk about it around here. IMHO it stands up alot stronger than other Wilco albums in retrospect.

I listened to "Down To The Wire" again and "Cocaine and Ashes" for the first time. I'll stop after I say this, but it is just the lyrics. I know they were always a little odd, but they seemed to fit and make sense in some way or feel like they make sense. Trace is full of odd lyrics, but they fit and it serves the mood. Even "Blind Hope" off of WST (which is completely stream of consicousness) makes sense to me or doesn't feel akward. All of the new stuff just feels wierd to me. When I listen to "Down To The Wire" it is like he doesn't care at all about phrasing or pacing or anything it

One week later: Wilco (The Song): fun, singy songy and my 2 1/2 year old loves saying "Wilco" "Wilco", sets the tone for this album that this isn't going to be deathly serious Deeper Down: I love the vocals, whispered then inflection, but this track doesn't stand out on its own, which is a problem on an album that isn't intended to be a cohesive statement like YHF One Wing: The song on this album that sticks in my head the most and I can't wait to hear everytime. Beautiful song. Bull Black Nova: I'm with you, the song that initially did nothing for me and now I'm telling everyone t

Yeah, I hear you, and even though I will always feel Wilco was at their best in the mid to late 90's, I still have loved every album they have put out, and have never been embarrassed for them. Wilco is much different now in many ways, but Jeff Tweedy is the constant and connects with me and in my mind it still holds together as Wilco as much as it did when AM came out. I can't say the same for Son Volt everything post WST just seems lost and miles away from the first three records. Hey, I'm not stuck in 1996, I like bands evolving, some do it well (Wilco) some just get lost and become irre

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Outer_South_cover.png why the bad reviews? Yes it is long and scattered, but this makes me feel far more than 80% of albums this year.

As I former card carrying member of the Son Volt fan club circa 95-2000 I am no longer surprised by uninspired or down right bad Son Volt albums. I stopped purchasing Son Volt records after Okemah. That record made me sad for the Son Volt name and wished the Boquist brothers filed a lawsuit. I picked up The Search at the library and was embarrassed by the entire thing (artwork and music) that I couldn't even bring myself to upload it. All I have heard from the new album is "Down To The Wire" and I was left feeling aboslutely nothing from that. I've read some comment on here about a return

Ok, I started this thread and I've read all the replies and a couple thoughts. 1. Maybe this is the equivalent of ranking your favorite child as someone suggested. It is largely impossible and most likely not a good idea. 2. Still shocked by continued lack of love for SBS and AM. People stating that SBS has "cringe worthy moments". I just don't get that at all. I don't think Tweedy has ever wrote a lyric that truly makes me embarrassed for him. "Walken" is an awesome song that could have fit on AM, which I guess is the problem for some here. 3. I think we can all agree that BT
