  1. Some great vids there and a lot of good memories. The Bjork 'All is Full Of Love' video has always been my favourite. The beauty of it gives me goosebumps.
  2. Amazon has the artwork up for the new record. No tracklist as of yet. p.s: what is going on over on the Thrasher website?
  3. I'll second that. I love that version. As also mentioned the version of 'pressing on' is great and made me go back to re-evaluate the song and its associated album, Saved. Also, from the 'Bob-Fest' live album I loved Neil Young's version of Tom Thumb Blues and Pearl Jam's 'Masters of War'. Also, Lambchop's Kurt Wagner does a typically restrained version of 'You're a Big Girl Now'.
  4. Depending on your view of the impending marriage this could be an appropriate song. A song about an overprotective mother vetting her sons girlfriends etc. Not sure its a great one to dance to though!!
  5. I've been hooked on this record for a while now. Also tempted by the box set but gave it a miss as it really was just expensive packaging (albeit David Lynch packaging!!). The penultimate track, grim augery, freaks me out now. Since it was recorded both Linkous and Chestnut have committed suicide. Thats one cursed track. The lyrics are stunning and dark. The line about catfish wriggling in blood and gore always gets me as well as the one about the Norman Rockwell painting. Its sad to think there will be no more stuff from Linkous. Dark night of The Soul has turned out to be a startling appro

"Deep Forbidden Lake" 12. "Love is a Rose" 13. "Daughters" 14. "We Don't Smoke It" 15. "White Line" 16. "Give Me Strength" 17. Frozen Man 18. Tie Plate Yodle #3 I'm so excited by this news. As mentioned above this really is the motherlode.
  7. After hearing Jeff's cover of the Handsome Family's 'So Much Wine' at the Union Chapel show last month I was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions on their output. I have heard a couple of their tunes on compliation Cds but am looking to pick up a couple of albums. Where should I start? Thanks in advance. WF

  9. Yeah, that was me. Granted its not the most rock n roll job in the world...and that crowd surfing kid was heavier than he looked!!
  10. A great show last night. Well worth the seven hour round trip! As mentioned above the opening 'comedian' was a bit poor, whichvwas compounding by him referrng to Jeff as Jack Tweedy. Most of his jokes were very bad, Scouser impressions etc. I was one of the unlucky few with whom he engaged in conversation (I was third row cente). Anyway..... This is the first Tweedy solo show I have seen and it was so good. His wife, Sue, and his two boys came round before the show taking requests and also taking a few items back stage for Jeff to sign. It was a lovely familiy atmosphere and, as mentioned
  11. Page and Young are legends...but Bowie is way cooler. I suppose we need to define 'Cool' before we can say for sure though. Bowie certainly looks cooler than Neil Young who just looks like a haggered old farmer these days. Check out Bowie on his most recent live DVD, Reality Tour (2004!). If I looked that cool in my late fifties I'd be happy. However, the real of course answer is: Tom Waits is the coolest man in the universe.
  12. On a Bowie related issue I picked up the Soundtrack to 'The Life Aquatic' the other day which is basically a dozen classic Bowie tracks perfroms, in Portugese, by the singer Seu Jorge. Its great.
  13. As the title says...where has David Bowie gone? What's he doing? Are there any Bowie fans out there with any idea of his possible return (studio or live). I liked his nineties output alot and hope he hasn't retired for good. Black Tie/White Noise, Buddha of Suburbia and Outside are all great records.
  14. I'll second that. None of my favourite records are flawless. Most of them have 8 great songs and a couple of filler tracks. To use my own post as an example, I think Coltrane's Love Supreme is a flawless record but its not my favourite. Lambchop's 'Nixon' has two average songs on it (the last two) but the first eight tracks compensate for that.
  15. mmm more lists. I can only think of fifteen off the top of my head. 1) Sparklehorse: Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot 2) Micah P Hinson: And The Gospel of Progree 3) Bjork: Debut 4) Massive Attack: Blues Lines 5) Marillion: Script for a Jester's Tear 6) My Morning Jacket: The Tennessee Fire 7) Genesis: Trespass 8) Stina Nordenstam: Memories of a Colour 9) Archive: Londinum 10) The Black Crowes: Shake Your Money Maker 11) Tom Waits: Closing Time 12) Grant-Lee Buffalo: Fuzzy 13) Neil Young: Neil Young 14) Tricky: Maxinquaye and.... 15) Guns n Roses: Appetite For Destruction
  16. I could name very few 'flawless' records in my collection. Even my personal favourite album (Lambchop - Nixon) has two weak songs on it. That doesn't stop it from being my favourite though. In terms of flawlessness I would say: Van Morrison: Veedon Fleece John Coltrane: Love Supreme Sparklehorse: Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot ...and that's about it really. I wouldn't change a note of those three records. But thanks to whoever mentioned Pink Floyd Animals. I haven't listened to that for a long time so I'll be giving it a spin tonight.
  17. Looks like the new record will be coming out on triple vinyl. Can't say I'm too impressed with the album artwork but I am really looking forward to his album. http://www.musicdirect.com/product/87955
  18. From the pen of Kurt Wagner: Lambchop: Gloria Leonard; Lambchop: Theme From The Neil Miller Show; Lambchop: D Scott Parsley; Lambchop: Steve McQueen; Lambchop: Timothy B Schmidt Lambchop: Sharing A Gibson With Martin Luther King Jr.
  19. Van Morrison: Linden Arden Stole The Headlights (Great song!). The Decemberists: Billy Liar. Phil Collins: Sue Deo
  20. Don't know why but that made me laugh. I always imagined Waters in the back of a limosine would be like a facist dictator or something like the character in the movie version of The Wall. The image of him hanging out the window waving seems contrary to his image. Alot of people have mentioned the pros and cons tour here recently. I must stick on the album as I haven't heard it in a long time.
  21. My vote has gone in. This is my list: 1) Lambchop: Damaged 2) Van Morrison: Veedon Fleece 3) Lambchop: Nixon 4) Sparklehorse: Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot 5) Wilco: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 6) Micah P. Hinson: ...And The Opera Circuit 7) M. Ward: Transistor Radio 8) Neil Young: On The Beach 9) Grandaddy: The Sophtware Slump 10) Tom Waits: Rain Dogs 11) Tom Waits: Mule Variations 12) Bob Dylan: Highway 61 Revisited 13) Genesis: Foxtrot 14) Miles Davis: Kind of Blue 15) The Jayhawks: Sound of Lies 16) Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds: And No More Shall We Part 17) My Morning Jacket: Okonokos 18)
  22. I have one that is a first and middle name. Obviously doesn't count but I'm sticking it in anyway in recognition of the great man!! Rickie Lee Jones: Chuck E's in love.
  23. http://dnots.com/buy/ Album release details for those interested.
