  1. You are on a board where someone just posted 'Don't Re-Nig in 2012' as an example of a 'good' recent bumper sticker they had seen. Question answered.
  2. Tonight (Feb 28) - Ryan Adams, Sydney Opera House March 15 - Pajama Club (with Liam Finn guesting), Art Factory Sydney March 29 - Nick Lowe, Sydney Opera House April 3 - My Morning Jacket, Enmore Theatre Sydney April 13th - Yes, State Theatre Sydney
  3. Spot Jeff, Glenn, John and Pat (fleetingly) in this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kQk0BpeyLg
  4. Aussie journalist Mike Carlton's take on the Republican primaries from the Sydney Morning Herald. One of my new year's resolutions was to ignore the Republican primaries in the United States, but I have broken it already. They have a horrible, irresistible fascination, not unlike watching a funnel web spider crawling across your lounge-room carpet. All those spray-on tans, those spray-on first names - Mitt, Newt, Rick, Ron - and worse, those spray-on opinions confected out there on the lunar right. These people have spun so far off any rational policy axis that they make George W. Bush
  5. Surely one of the saddest most beautiful songs ever.

  8. Flashheart - thanks for reminding us of the brilliant Paul Kelly!!
  9. Totally off topic - but since you mentioned the brilliant Fast Show - and since it's Chirstmas!:
  10. I remember one of my first posts on this board was in a thread listing my five favorite Wilco songs. Someone responded to my list with a simple 'LOL'. That person is number 16: 16. The Person Who Is Laughing But Is Actually Not At All Amused. "You put Community on your list instead of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia? Ha ha ha yeah right."
  11. Amnesty International's gigantic Dylan tribute album, due out on Jan 24, is now streaming on Amnesty's facebook page. https://www.facebook...115392725211599 Looks like the stream might only be up for a limited time. UPDATE: all tracks were streaming for me yesterday - but looks like they have already disabled most of them. Only a few tracks seem to be playable now.
  12. 1. Wave Of Mutilation 2. Age Of Consent 3. The Eternal 4. I Often Dream Of Trains 5. The Killing Moon 6. Love My Way 7. Under The Milky Way 8. City Of Refuge 9. So. Central Rain 10. Boys Don't Cry 11. Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me
  13. Really nice article. Thanks for posting.
  14. Top man Flashheart! The best rock documentary I've ever seen.
  15. What a trainwreck. The way Greg comes in at the end of Derek's solo just as Warren is about to start his - jeez. Warren shakes his head, Derek has to wander over to Greg to tell him to stop. And the whole think being played at a soporific pace anyway. Sad.
  16. Agree. One of the big disapointments of the year for me. I like Evil Uges a lot and had high hope for Circuital. But it is a very poor album. The songs just aren't up to scratch. The other big let down for me this year has been the Jayhawks comeback album 'Mockingbird Time'. The songs are dull and, sad to say, the trademark harmonies aren't working anymore either.
  17. Agree that NZ should not be lumped in with Aus - totally different culture and music scene. For Australia it's The Go-Betweens by a country mile - right up there with Wilco as one my favourite bands of all time:
  18. The Bats! Saw them in concert recently and they've still got it. Easily the best of the Flying Nun/Dunedin era bands. Gloriously jangly:
  19. No Allman Brothers, no Steely Dan, no Little Feat, no Byrds, Fail!
  20. Sitar/tabla version of the Dave Brubeck jazz classic Take 5. Awesome!
  21. The album that turned me on to Bob Dylan. Will never forget the day was at a friend's place late one night and I heard this for the first time. Every one of those words rang true for sure. I probably rate Highway 61 a bit higher, but even after all these years Blood on the Tracks has a emotional resonance for me that is unmatched by any other record.
  22. Ryan Adams - Carolina Rain Ryan's recent performance of this on the BBC Songwriter's Circle (link below) blew me away and reminded me what a great song it is. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rose lived on the south side of town Until her landlord showed up with two hundred dollar bills A notice of eviction on the other hand Now she don't live there no more, And everyone thinks he drowned, I pulled into Mecklenburg on them trains Into a station that got flooded when they opened up the dam And broke their connections to the railway lines So they c
