  1. Drone aside, I think "Less Than You Think" is one of Tweedy's best melodies [and one of John's best harmonies] and has excellent lyrics.
  2. Interesting use of a guitar lick during a solo from "At Least That's What You Said." Like the voice, could probably do without the violin, or at least used in smaller doses throughout the track. Overall, a pretty good take on it!
  3. Owl & Bear have this track in the Archives.
  4. The Swedish cover of "Jesus, Etc." is great, although the overall vibe of the video looks more well-suited for a funeral. Now, switching gears, this is beyond adorable:

Nope, doesn't look like it. I'd do it but I'm a bit swamped at work these days and don't have a very good scanner at home. I suppose you could keep looking for it.

One of the funniest effin' things I've read lately.
  7. Me too! There's just something completely addictive and fulfilling, as a musician, playing the solo version of this. Great chords, fingerpicking and melody. A brilliant composition for solo acoustic guitar.
  8. While Being There and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot will always be my top two, with Summerteeth in a close third (depending on the week and what kind of mood I'm in), I think Being There and W(TA) probably represent the two records that were the most "fun" to make for the band. -A.M.: put out in a hurry, a band just trying to tread water and bang out some tunes -Being There: enter Jay Bennett, studio overdubs, keyboards, a BIG batch of new Tweedy tunes and a rockin' good time in the studio. Group making its first big statement and starting to gel as a band. Listen to this and tell me it doesn't s
  9. Or perhaps it should be "i am an american aquarium drinker."

I just bought a copy yesterday at the freakin' airport of all places. Ok article, was expecting a little more in-depth look into W(TA) than a rehash of Wilco history with some stories of Tweedy's home life.
  11. I love the solo piano take on "She's a Jar" that plays during the credits.
  12. I agree. One of the few good tracks on the "Another Fine Day" album...which I think was the last one that Tweedy contributed to. "Listen Joe" is also another stellar one from that disc.
  13. No, you're right. He didn't join until after A.M. was released, but joined shortly afterwards for the inaugural Wilco tour. That's just a slip-up in the reporting.
  14. I burned my older brother a Wilco mix of material from A.M., Being There and Mermaid Avenue I about six months ago. I know his tastes well and if he were to get into Wilco, this is what I'd get him with. So, finally, while driving to Tulsa today for a business trip, he finally popped it in his CD player. Called me after he finished listening, saying "why the hell didn't I listen to that earlier?" "These guys are AWESOME." Name-checked "Passenger Side," "Casino Queen," and "Hesitating Beauty" as favorites.
  15. I'm the exact same way. Funny - Being There and YHF mark the entrance and exit of Jay Bennett. But then Summerteeth comes creeping back in - it was my first Wilco [studio] record and a damn fine introduction to the group. But I tend to get synthed out from time to time. BT and YHF, to me, represent the two points when Wilco was truly making a statement about their identity and their music.
  16. Don't wanna be that guy, but the lyric is actually "jet-lag palm." http://bemydemon.org
  17. "Impossible Germany" isn't on Kicking Television. Perhaps you mean the Ashes of American Flags soundtrack?
  18. How is this stripped down? There's only one band member gone. Stripped-down in my mind would be Jeff, John, Glenn and Pat - like when they laid down the tracks for W(TA) in New Zealand. Or the quartet version of the band, post-Bennett, pre-Mikael.
  19. I bought it on iTunes for eight dimes, two nickels and nine pennies. After a quick search, it doesn't seem to be available there anymore...weird.
  20. Thanks for starting this topic - I was thinkin' about it! I've yet to make a CD for a friend who's a new(er) Wilco fan, but have played a variety of stuff for him. He can't stand any of the noisy stuff...couldn't listen to Bull Black Nova, Spiders, coda to Handshake Drugs, etc. Basically a lot of the great guitar work. But, he does like Hummingbird, most of YHF, not too much of the A.M. through Mermaid stuff [the pop/rock/country] and a little bit of Summerteeth. He also digs Solitaire and I'll Fight quite a bit.
  21. Nice contribution...basically like Tweedy's quote straight out of the Kot book. But I do agree with you about ELT. Love that song, particularly at absurdly high volumes...
  22. It would be last dying wish to hear something like this.
  23. For those of you willing to make the trip, The Crossroads in KCMO is completely worth it. As a KCMO resident, I can tell you that this is a great place to see Wilco. Wilco's last appearance in KC was at this venue on 10/13/2007 [a solid recording of this exists, by the way] and it was a complete blast. They played the same night the Sprint Center/Arena opened in KC and Elton John was playing, but Wilco still packed the place and Tweedy made great stage banter all night about Elton John "sucking." Anyway, click on the link in my signature and check out the setlist from that night. A-mazing
