  1. So any thoughts on the first track that's been released?
  2. That makes me love JPJ a little bit more. I've only read one Zep book, Hammer of the Gods, a pretty good read. From what I recall, he partook in his fair share of the offerings of the road, but his intake was much more discreet and moderate. I think I read an interview with Robert Plant where he said something similar about JPJ. Either way, the guy has monster talent.
  3. The most underrated member of Zep. Bass, piano, keyboard, organ, guitar, mandolin -- OH, and the recorder. Dude can play just about anything. I'm pretty sure he was responsible for a lot of arrangements and scoring horn and string parts in Zep.
  4. My eldest brother and I are making a road trip to St. Louis to catch one of these shows. Been wanting to see Blitzen Trapper for a long time and this will be my third DBT show.
  5. Yep. There's also some story/legend about Harrison running around the studio that night with a flaming ashtray on his head. Apparently they were totally out of their minds when they recorded that.
  6. Lennon played the bass on Helter Skelter. His attack is very sloppy-sounding, yet it works. He also blew those harsh, sour notes on the saxophone in the coda.
  7. According to Geoff Emerick's book, after Clapton laid down his guitar tracks, it was decided his parts didn't sound "Beatley" enough and they applied a bunch of effects to give it that wobbly sound. The Beatles also were on good behavior that day because of Clapton's presence, during what was otherwise a turbulent time in the studio.
  8. Paul's bass tone on the White Album is the best of all albums by The Beatles.
  9. I'm not upset about it, just wondering why they decided to single out Wilco. Maybe they're fans and it was done lovingly.
  10. I've been to my share of Wilco concerts, and yes, I'll admit that I haven't observed a great deal of ethnic diversity in the audience. But the same could be said for many other bands. Why make Wilco the butt of a joke?
  11. Performers announced for a tribute/salute to The Beatles at the GRAMMYS. I think I understand why they picked some of these folks -- to get viewers -- but I'm scratching my head. http://www.grammy.com/news/performers-announced-for-beatles-special
  12. This also is a good one for Stevie "in the raw."
  13. Agreed. Love me some SRV - one of my original inspirations to pick up a guitar - but so many of those tunes have that 1980s gloss all over them. My favorite SRV record is the The Sky is Crying compilation. To my ears more of the tracks on that sounder rougher and rawer than the material that made the final cut for the albums.
  14. I'm from KC and live elsewhere now, but my wife and I made the trip back home for this show and the Denver show. We laughed quite a bit during both the KC and Denver opening segments. The article is slightly inaccurate. He wasn't booed the moment he walked onstage; rather, it was when he introduced himself a few minutes into his bit as being from Denver, and I'd say it was only a portion of the crowd and it didn't last for more than a few seconds. It's not like he was booed continuously by the entire crowd. As for the heckler, that guy WAS a jerk. When the "you suck!" comment came out, the c
  15. I think it's the best sounding of the records by the current lineup.
  16. Pretty sure Wilco said they were taking a long break.
  17. Listened to the 7-30-2000 show at the Fillmore yesterday, which includes the Red-Eyed and Blue --> I Got You --> Someone Else's Song sequence. That version really is just badass.
  18. That, and "Real Love." Thanks a lot, Jeff Lynne.
  19. Furthering my education on The Black Crowes
