I'll admit that I'm not too familiar with most of Lou's work as a solo artist or with the VU. I downloaded a copy of their eponymous 1969 record back in college and listen to it a few times a year. Listening to Loaded now and realizing I have some catching up to do. It's easy to hear how a song like "Who Loves the Sun" was largely influential on Jeff Tweedy's writing of classic pop songs. Must be why Wilco covered it at Solid Sound this year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gk4CtcxfpQ0

Despite my avatar, I haven't heard everything by Macca, including this delightfully weird record. -
A handful of those tracks already appeared on the "Live at Massey Hall 1971" solo acoustic release from 2007. I wonder how different they sound here, if at all.

That Stubb's show looks pretty epic indeed, though I've purchased many of those songs twice before in other Roadcase releases, namely Red Rocks and Solid Sound. I'd love the first 10-12.

Weird. My LP also has that same track order. -

Yep. Pretty cool ad. Playing a tune by The Temptations, I believe. There's a thread on it here somewhere. -
The album version in my mind still trumps the live version. Two takes -- a quiet, acoustic-driven one and a loud, feedback-driven one -- cross-faded together. I love how the noise sort of bubbles just under the surface, disappears and comes back again, only really breaking through in the "I know I'll make it back..." verse and in the fade-out. You can really hear the longing, exhaustion and pain in his voice. I do enjoy the live version of today, but it doesn't do it for me like the record does. Sometimes the noise seems more forced than natural.

Me too. I got my hands on the 1971 show at the Academy of Music and it's simply incredible. I also would put Pink Floyd in this category. For a long time, all I knew was Dark Side and The Wall. Now I've come to appreciate Meddle, Wish You Were Here, and Animals quite a bit. Still working on the early stuff.

That looks great. Looks like the Texas-style chili I make every year - the same chili that won a cook-off last year.

I don't know, Don, "Leave Me Like You Found Me" can be a real dud.

Such a beautiful instrument.

I've seen Tweedy play a Les Paul a few times. I think it was on the tours supporting SBS and W(TA). I think I remember him playing one with a BIgsby tremolo unit on "Hate it Here." Nels occasionally pulls out the goldtop LP too - Duane Allman's old axe - for IG. But they're clearly Tele/Jazzmaster guys when it comes to Fenders, and Tweedy seems to prefer SGs when in Gibson mode.

I wonder if that's the same Strat Tweedy was rocking back during the Being There tour, as seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jg6GOrJMRds

Pretty much the definitive version in my mind.
