This is a 1946 Harmony hollow body archtop. Bought it from a buddy for $100, spent another $89 on a setup and now it plays beautifully. Such a unique sound from these old axes, too. -

This stuff sounds fantastic.

AGIB is Wilco's best-sounding album. Fact.
-
Glad you guys are enjoying it. There's a very casual feel to the whole thing, the way Jeff talks to the audience and the other band members. It's one of my favorites.

That Maxwells gig is really interesting. It was late 1995 and they played several early versions of tunes from Being There, before it was released and its subsequent monster tour. Misunderstood isn't quite finished, and the "god-shaped hole" lyric actually appears in "Kingpin" at that set. Other early Wilco gems appear too, including "Don't You Honey Me" and "Reincarnation." It's a semi-acoustic set and has a really strong country vibe to it. Funny to think that when they hit the road the following year they'd be an entirely different unit.

Check out the Maxwell's gig from Ocotber 1995. There's a good version in that show.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's projecting his own interpretation onto the song. I clearly remember reading the exact same thing about "I'll Fight" around the time W(TA) came out. In fact, I recall several early write-ups/previews of the album had "Conscript" as the song title -- in Rolling Stone, Billboard and Uncut, to name a few. At any rate, like I said, the AGIB is about the only period I'd be interested in learning new stuff about, outside of what can be found in The Wilco Book and the abundance of interviews available online.

The Bitter Southerner: Southern Soul Review

I've got two Stax compilations and that's it. Can you recommend any? -
Thought I'd share this great post at The Bitter Southerner, which is a terrific site to visit if you haven't already. I love this stuff. http://bittersoutherner.com/rhythm-blues-and-the-southern-dream-of-freedom

I have to admit, for the longest time, I really only knew Zep I-IV and the "hits" from the rest of the catalog. I never really knew how great Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti and Presence were in their entirety.

I introduced a friend of mine to WIlco probably six months ago. This is a guy who really knows his stuff and has very diverse tastes, just never got on the Wilco train after being an Uncle Tupelo fan. I just set him up with the whole catalog and a few notes about each record. When the dust settled, Summerteeth emerged as his favorite. In fact, he's really quite taken with it. I wanted to show him that original photo.
-
Ah, terrific. Thank you kindly.

A while back, I remember someone posted a link to the original photo that Wilco adapted for the Summerteeth cover. I can't find the thread. Anyone remember this or know the background?

I went to an Eagles concert five or so years ago with my in-laws. My wife and I left before the first encore. We learned later that had we stayed, we would have witnessed a brawl a few rows in front of us during "Take it Easy." Apparently multiple beers were thrown into faces and one of the ladies brandished her high heels as stabbing weapons. So apparently it's not all that uncommon.

The way I understand it, the pre-sales sell out quickly, but it's only a small portion of seats in the venue. The on-sale is Friday. I don't know how the tickets move after that. My wife and I just like to get stuff in the pre-sales to make sure that we have seats. In KC we are Row A, seats 10-11 in orchestra center. Was able to grab 2 for Denver as well. In Denver we also are orchestra center, Row H, seats 6-7.
-
Whew. 2 seats for KC secured. Also trying for Denver in an hour.

Middle Cyclone ranks at the top for me as well. I've only seen her play live once, and it was in support of this album. She played every track off Middle Cyclone (minus the field recording, and the tunes were out of sequence) and pretty much all the "greatest hits" from Blacklisted, Fox and a few non-album live favorites. That show was transcendental.

Breaking down the Wilco AmericanaramA set lists
choo-choo-charlie replied to sonnyfeeling's topic in After The Show
To have high-quality SBD recordings of the collaborations would be great, but I'd be fine with a Roadcase compilation without them if there are too many complications in putting together such a release. Wilco busted out some serious rarities on the tour that are worth "preserving" in an official Roadcase release. More so than three shows from Japan with similar set lists to many other sets available for purchase. But I'm not getting my hopes too high. I think it would've happened by now if it were happening at all.- 30 replies

Where's "Blacklisted" on that list?
