  1. I'm OK with only liking Dylan's songs when done by other singers. But you're missing out.
  2. Actually, the whole I'm Not There soundtrack is pretty stellar. There are a few definite classics, and pretty much everything else is well above average. One of the biggest surprises to me was Jack Johnson's rather good medley of Mama You've Been On My Mind and Last Thoughts on Woody Guthrie. The only song on there I can't stand is Sufjan's cover of Ring Them Bells. And the Hold Steady's Please Crawl Out Your Window. But that's more a case of not being able to deal with the vocals. Sufjan's cover was just all around awful.
  3. Those are the only songs I've heard him do. Is his own material worth checking out? He really does nail those covers on I'm Not There.
  4. YES. Those are unreal. Especially Pressing On. Not a song I'd ever paid attention to by Dylan. But that cover is fantastic.
  5. I bought a copy of this on vinyl a long time ago, but I haven't listened to much of it. Pretty interesting song choices though.
  6. Rod Stewart's are quite good. Both Tomorrow and Mama You've Been On My Mind. Well, that one is terrific. And it's the example of a Dylan cover for a reason. But it isn't my favorite.
  7. Self explanatory. Best/favorite Dylan covers. Probably already done, but whatever. I'll begin with my two favorites. Mark Lanegan - Man In The Long Black Coat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0OhFBBCfOM Flawless song choice. I like this cover better than Dylan's original. Lanegan's a fantastic singer no matter what lyrics he's working with. But MITLBC is one of my favorite Dylan songs lyrically, and Lanegan absolutely nails it. The instrumental track is simple, hazy, also perfect. Much of Lanegan's non-QOTSA material reminds me of Oh Mercy era Dylan, except better. So I was very pleased to
  8. It's been a long time since I've listened to this album (that's by no means a slight against the album. I've just kinda lost interest in the band as a whole) but this was one of my favorites off their debut. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVOMiOe6yEU
  9. The Flaming Lips recorded a bunch of raw, under produced albums long ago. Those are pretty good, but relatively unheard.
  10. Like I said, I can't remember the lyrics off the top of my head. It was just the first song with mom in the title that came to mind.
  11. Mama You Been On My Mind, perhaps? I can't recall all the lyrics exactly, but it could work.
  12. How can you love the concept of a Wilco Fest but not like the lineup of Wilco and all the individual pieces of Wilco? The concept of the "Wilco Fest" was Wilco and as many related projects as possible.
  13. I'll believe it. The On Fillmore show I saw in July had a bunch of near misses when Glenn was swinging shit around. The only person that got hit was Darin though. And he was hit by the row of chairs he fell on while climbing through the crowd.
  14. I think it's a great cover, but I can see how others wouldn't much care for it. Regardless, I give them a lot of credit for making it their own instead of doing a straightforward cover. I think they released this as a single (or something like that) so Tweedy must approve of it.
  15. Acid Casuals - Omni I've been looking for this damn album forever. And I finally found it this past weekend. It's Cian Ciaran's (from Super Furry Animals) techno project. Really nice stuff. is such a gorgeous song, even if it sounds nothing like the rest of the album.
  16. Cruel Cruel Baby - Eleven Erase/Replace - Foo Fighters See You Later, Allen Ginsberg - Bob Dylan Walls (Acoustic) - Beck Stay With me - The Faces Hermann Loves Pauline - Super Furry Animals Pilot Can At The Queer Of God - The Flaming Lips Bad Cover Version - Pulp Heavy Duty - Spinal Tap Seventeen Devils - The Starlight Mints
  17. This remains a top ten album of all time for me.
  18. I can see all those points. I think the slower songs do meander a bit too much without hitting anything huge. But I love the album, maybe because of it's flaws. I love that so many of the experiments delivered, and I love that they experimented in the first place. I'd probably cut off Librarian and Sec Walking maybe. There is a lull in the middle of the album. But it's not anything skippable to me. Smokin' From Shootin' is a classic, regardless of any opinions on the album as a whole. That's the only song I've seen Jim do all three times (MoF, MMJ, and with Ben Sollee & Daniel Martin Mo
  19. I know I'm in the minority, but Evil Urges is my most played MMJ album. Love that album. And I've probably listened to Jim's songs from the Monsters of Folk album more than most of the first few MMJ LPs. I think Jim has one of the best voices in music, and I like it so much more when it isn't coated in all that reverb. Not all of Evil Urges' experiments were entirely successful, but I think it's an exciting album, and I like where Jim's songwriting is going so much more than where it's been. I'm psyched for the next MMJ record. After an Appalachian Voices show in Charlotesville last week, Jim
  20. Oh, no no, I'm aware he makes a good amount, with or without Wilco. There's just something that makes me think I shouldn't know just what that amount is. However, it is interesting to think about concert prices from the other side.
  21. Interesting. But I feel like I shouldn't know that.
  22. Bringing it back after a long absence. Curious to see how well it's held up.
  23. Yeah, I would imagine one off solo sets still command a pretty high amount. I glanced at Tweedy's page on High Road Touring's website, and it says that's what he's available for through December. Personally, I'll keep my fingers crossed for a DC Tweedy solo show. Charleston is most likely too far for me to go for a concert.
