  1. So jealous! I've seen them twice (incredible shows), but haven't gotten the privilege to hear this. I love it. They absolutely make it their own song, but it still remains true to Dylan's original spirit. Not something you often see with cover songs. It's refreshing to see a band avoid taking the safe route when covering a classic song. Oh yeah, and the I'm Not There soundtrack as a whole is full of great Dylan covers. Mark Lanegan's Man In The Long Black Coat is probably my favorite on there.
  2. Thoughts? I'm trying to like it, but it's not doing it so far. It sounds too much like Prince trying to appease those who want another Dirty Mind or 1999. And it's only making me think of much better versions of these songs.
  3. Is this coming out on CD? I remember reading something like that, But I don't remember the date, and I can't find anything on that site. I liked Whatever Happened. But Jay's solo work hasn't really grabbed me too much. I'll be giving this a listen tomorrow, though.
  4. As an extension of my last post's Roots obsession, might be the best Dylan cover I've ever heard.
  5. Album of the year, in my opinion. Absolutely incredible record. Amazing musical arrangements, great lyrics, coherent album. My expectations were pretty high for this one, with all the delays, but it more than lived up to them.
  6. Not a huge PJ fan myself, but did anyone see this? They brought out Dave Grohl and Alain Johannes to play percussion/guitar on a cover of Kick Out The Jams. Videos' kinda terrible quality, but still neat to see.
  7. Just came in to post that. Really good song. I don't even consider it a guilty pleasure. It's just a brilliant song.
  8. The Roots, the Nels Cline Singers and the Black Keys are my top three right now.
  9. Really good show. The room was packed. I was right against the stage, in front of Nels. But I think even the back wall was the equivalent of 4th/5th row seats. Intimate show.
  10. Prince is easily among the very best pop musicians of all time. But he's also batshit insane. Here we have proof. Further proof,
  11. $12 to ship those posters is extremely fair. I ordered one through the website, and it came in a nice poster tube, rolled up with a slip sheet inside. I was a bit concerned about ordering a screenprinted poster through the mail. But they packed it damn well, which is very worth paying for.
  12. Dave Grohl Questlove The two best I've ever seen live. Completely different styles, but they both hold their bands together so damn well.
  13. I've still not heard them all, but here goes. And there hasn't been enough recent Prince love yet. So I threw Lotusflower in the ten spot. Obviously it doesn't equal his classics, but I think it's a consistent album, and I still play it from time to time. Purple Rain Around The World Sign O The Times Dirty Mind 1999 The Undertaker (live studio bootleg. Some incredible stuff on here. Prince on guitar, with a drummer and a bassist. Great blues rock) Black Album Controversy Love Symbol Lotusflower I listened to Chaos and Disorder for the first time earlier, and it might make the list eventua
  14. Probably my favorite. And if not, it's damn close.
  15. Questlove mentioned it a while back, when the album was first mentioned as upcoming. I don't know if they actually recorded it or not, but I would love to hear them play that song. Don't know if it would fit into the album's sound, though. Unless they gave it a similar kind of jazzy arrangement. Either way, I hope they did record it, or at least play it live.
  16. I'm disappointed that the talked about cover of Peaches En Regalia didn't make the cut, but at the same time, I love that this album is 42 minutes long. Looking forward to picking up my copy tomorrow. $7.99 at Best Buy, for what it's worth.
  17. I really liked Rising Down. That's also an incredible album. But this is such a refreshing change-up. And that album cover is incredible. These guys are on such a hot streak.
  18. Quite a great album. I'm loving the return of their jazzy sound. Good stuff.
  19. I found a copy of this, after much searching, at a used book store near my house. I had given up on finding it, so I was ecstatic when I saw it, and even more thrilled when I saw that it was $2.97. Definitely my find of the week. (Although the next day I found this, which is good competition, since it was $5 instead of $150). Anyway, as a major Sparklehorse fan, I had to have it. Linkous doesn't sing, so it's not the same. But it's not bad either. Pretty nice cover of Diamonds In The Mine, which is a cruelly neglected Leonard Cohen song, in my opinion.
  20. I'd probably go something like this: Blonde on Blonde Desire Blood On The Tracks Planet Waves New Morning But it's very tough. Blonde on Blonde is the definite number one, though.
  21. Underrated. I consider this one of his very best, because of songs like Dirge and Going Going Gone. But I don't see it praised nearly enough.
  22. Such a fantastic set of albums. Listening to them in order now. In Utero is far and away my favorite, and one of the very best records I've ever heard, but Bleach and Nevermind are definitely classics as well.
