  1. Well, I've really dove deeper into jazz recently. So that's filling a lot of my time. And I'm getting into a lot of 60's blues and soul records. Plus I'm really digging Plastic Beach, and the entire Sparklehorse discography these days. So I'm not lacking in terrific things to listen to. My musical listening trends go in very distinct waves, and I try to get as much out of each wave as possible. I see no point in listening to a new album every day if I don't give any album enough time to really grow on me. When this wave dies out, maybe I'll look for something new. Or maybe a new wave of an a
  2. Geeze.... The fact that it looks like it was one slight thing that triggered one final, intense moment of depression makes it all the more tragic. And the fact that it just happened...in the middle of the day? Man... Shit, I've been through pretty bad depression. But nothing that's made me even consider putting a bullet through my chest. I cannot even imagine Mark's pain. Nor do I ever want to. Cliche as it is, I honestly hope he's found some sort of happiness. For all the great music he gave me, he deserves it.
  3. Because it's a wonderful musical complement to the lyrics? I guess I can see someone not liking it, but I think it's perfect.
  4. The guy had suffered from depression for years, and he already died, 13 years ago, from a drug overdose. I think that's the "more" to it.
  5. Nah, I'm fine with the Radiohead discs. I'm sure Gabriel's good and all, but I'm not looking for new musical interests right now.
  6. Heard Street Spirit. 'Twas awful. Didn't listen to anything else, though. I have little knowledge of Gabriel, but I love Street Spirit. But not his cover.
  7. He really had that balance down between pop and weirdness. As well as the balance between beauty and depression. Such a talented guy. I put him up there with my very favorite musicians. Between the Sparklehorse albums and DNOTS, there aren't many artists I listened to more the last year. This has really hit me hard.
  8. Awful, awful news. I considered Linkous one of the very best musicians out there. This is damn depressing to hear.
  9. Good to see DNOTS getting an official release. I already ordered the poster, CDr, though. If this has nice packaging, I'll buy it, 'cuz the album is outstanding.
  10. I'd say check Craigslist closer to the show date. I've gotten face value or cheaper tickets by doing that. Don't go the ebay route yet. If they're still available closer to the show, they'll be cheaper.
  11. I love apologies that don't apologize for the actions, but for people finding them offensive. Especially in this case. You've won a medal, go ahead and celebrate. I'll never get why so many sports organizations do so much to take the fun out of it. They are, after all, games.
  12. This will only lead to a pleasant atmosphere wherever your seat is.
  13. Super Furry Animals Dylan Maybe Queens of the Stone Age Maybe Prince I consider Wilco my favorite American band. That way SFA can be my favorite band, Dylan can be my favorite solo artist, Queens can be my favorite American rock band, and Wilco can be my favorite non "rock" American band. And Prince is my favorite monosyllabic performer. I don't like leaving anyone out.
  14. This. I could totally deal with an endless loop of that chorus. Gorgeous song.
  15. From what I recall, they're fine with it, as long as you don't sell it, yadda yadda yadda. But if the venue is strict about it the day of the show, I don't think there's much the band can do at that point.
  16. In searching for a suitable emoticon, I found this: . While I find it awesome, I can help but wonder what its purpose really is.
  17. I say this about so many of Gruff's songs, but Steel Your Girl is one of the very best pop songs I've ever heard.
  18. I'd say so. They do still play smaller venues when possible. I'm seeing them at a 1500 person club in March. But when they do play at small palces, tickets sell out, and then there's the scalping issue to deal with. So it's a lose-lose thing, in a way. I'd only have a problem with the band being bigger if the music was suffering. In my opinion, it isn't, and I still enjoy Wilco live, so I could care less how many other people are at the shows and buying the albums with me. That being said, I've only been a Wilco fan for the last few years, so I've only ever known them as a decent sized the
  19. I love Prince. But that scarf was rather, how you say, I didn't like it*. *italicized: admin edit to remove homophobic comment
