Jarvis Cocker - Further Complications
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Terrific, terrific album. It's definitely a lot heavier than his first solo record, which I love as well. Further Complications is in my top 3 for the year, for what it's worth. Leftovers and I Never Said I Was Deep are absolutely brilliant. Two of the best songs I've heard all year. Jarvis is amazing, basically. -
Fantastic Mr. Fox Hype Thread

I know Jarvis was supposed to have a more prominent role, but a test audience couldn't understand his accent. Bastards... I'm pretty damn glad to see Owen Wilson in this, however brief. I think he's easily one of the funniest guys around, and an absolutely brilliant writer. His suicide thing was shocking. I think his part will be more than a cameo, though. They read his name in the trailer, so that leads me to believe he'll have more than one line. -
Fantastic Mr. Fox Hype Thread

Jarvis is the voice of a character, too. But this should be a great movie. I love that the animation isn't trying to be life-like and flawless. And you forgot Owen Wilson! Come on, now. -

Fair enough. It would make more sense than this.
-
What is the point of this? You essentially just grouped four albums together randomly, and used a live album? If you'd done the first four and the last four, It'd make sense. But this...no.

I'm hoping someone does sign him, honestly. Say what you will about him, and whether he should be allowed to play (or work, as Jules pointed out), the guy was an exciting football player. I can't be the only one curious about whether or not he's still got it.
-
That, and the PETA people who will no doubt protest it. I'm not defending his crimes. But he served his time, and is trying to move on. I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed to do so.
-
Personally, I have no problem with him playing football again. I don't envy whatever team signs him, though... I guess my view is, yea, he did a fucked up thing. But he served his time, and I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed to play football again.

Monsters of Folk (James, Oberst & Ward)
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Wild Frank's topic in Someone Else's Song
It's definitely a Jim-driven track. And it does remind me of a lot of EU. I was lukewarm at first, but after two more listens, I really like it. It adds to the tongue-in-cheek aspect of their name. I'm glad they aren't just releasing a straight up album of "folk" songs. If there are a few tracks like Dear God thrown in, I'll be pleased. -

What Stewart said. HMD is not exactly a hardcore fan favorite. I don't mind it at all, but there are a lot of Wilco fans who strongly oppose it's existence.
-
I refuse to ever buy compilations that don't provide any new material. As far as song choices, how is this?
-
I'm pretty sure that, after one more album and tour, the rest of the band will rise up and take what's rightfully theirs. Jeff will gather together a few "hired hands", and continue to tour as Wilco, and years of court battles between Jeff's Wilco, and Wilco's WIlco will ensue. John will try to tour with both Wilco's, much like a child tries to appease both divorcing parents.
-
Uhm...not so much. You won't be hard pressed to find Wilco fans on here who aren't too fond of HMD.
-
This is a dumb statement. A stripped down Wilco would be cool, yes. But what you listed isn't a stripped down Wilco.
-
Alright. I'll look into it. Do you get tickets from his website?

What time do they film the day's episode? I may be in New York in Septmeber, and if I could make it to one of these tapings, that'd make the trip all the better.

It's a track off of Check Your Head.

I could have sworn there was already a lengthy thread about this...

Ahh. Touché, sir.

Captain Beefheart was on Letterman. So, uh, yeah.
