Jay Bennett posts about upcoming surgery
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Bhickman's topic in Someone Else's Song
Exactly. Who knows what would have happened from the Wilco camp, or anyone, really, regarding Jay's surgery issues, but all hopes of that are gone now. Just a real classless act, Jay Bennett. -
Jay Bennett posts about upcoming surgery

That's just low, Jay. Come on. I understand that this surgery will cost a lot, but this just makes him look like even more of a total ass. -
That about sums it up. Every surrounding county was flooded during and after that concert. The lawn was a swamp from the time gates opened. It was awful. The rain soaked through my umbrella, rendering it completely useless. It truly was an experience that cannot be done justice with words. Intense is all I can say. And, proud to say, I made it through the whole show. And the worst part was, I live about a mile from Nissan Pavilion, and it took almost two hours to get home, since the main road out of Nissan was completely flooded. Such an interesting concert experience.

Questions such as.... Intense is the word my roommate and I agreed would forever be used to describe that concert. It fits.
-
You mean the Radiohead at Nissan Pavilion concert? I was at that show. It was intense for everyone on the lawn.

Interesting... It's very simple. I'm not sure if I like it or not. That being said, I think this album cover will be rather simple. I don't know what makes me say this, though. As a current graphic design student, I think this is all moot when the album hasn't even been heard yet. To me, Wilco has always done a good job of using album art that fit the music. I hope W(TA) continues this trend.

I don't think Jeff means that they couldn't go on musically without John. I'm sure they could get another bassist to replace him, but I think he sees John as the emotional rock of the group, or just HIS personal emotional rock. Maybe the fact that they are the only original members means Jeff doesn't think he could keep making music as "Wilco" without John. At least that's how I took his comments. And that scene in the movie always makes me smile.

If you mean the album cover of SBS, yes this does remind me of it. It also seems like the cover reminds me of the songs on SBS. I always associate an album's songs with the color/design scheme of it's cover art, and sometimes my own imagined color/design scheme, and this one fits in with my SBS mental image. I just think W(TA) should have a different looking cover.
-
This is nice, but I think it's way too similar to SBS's cover. I do like the font though, but the white background and bird thing seems like a repeat of SBS.

Download Woody Guthrie's "The Jolly Banker!!!"
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to RainDogToo's topic in Just A Fan
I have an album for miscellaneous stuff for all the bands I like where such things exist. In Wilco's case...songs like this belong to the album "Random Wilco Shit" It's a very advanced system, I'll admit. But it gets the job done. -
I doubt it. If what Jeff has said is true, this is a more "studio-oriented" album, so the basic tracks could have easily been embellished upon by any of the band members. That being said, it could just end up being a more Pat heavy album anyway, for whatever reason.

Where/who is this "word" coming from?

Wolf Trap does their ticket sales through tickets.com, which is MUCH better than Ticketmaster. The ticket price was $38, and my final cost was $45, including all service/mailing costs. Not bad at all.

Wolf Trap Center Loge Row B Seat 106 Pretty much right in the middle, looking down towards the stage. Seems like a great seat.

Yea, I'm considering potential band-related tattoo for my favorite band (Super Furry Animals), and I want to avoid the cliche band-tattoo things, like just lyrics, and stuff like that. But yours are very nice. I like the way you included text and a visual, as well as having two tattoos that go together. Many of my ideas for my own tattoo have been kinda like that.
-
Those might be the best and most tasteful band-related tattoos I've ever seen. Seriously...good job.

Yeah, I meant that they won't play the 930 Club again so soon, especially with a full-on album support tour to play.
-
Yea, I know, but like you said, those type of shows aren't for a tour directly supporting an album. I don't doubt that they'll be back to the 930 Club, and I hope I can get tickets this time, but it won't be 'till this winter, at the very earliest. More likely sometime next spring. Yes, those shows are booked by the same promoting agency, but if they're playing Wolf Trap, that would most likely be their DC area show for the summer.
-
They're supposedly playing at Wolf Trap July 8th. They played two shows at the 930 last year, so I doubt if they'll do that again, since it's such a small venue for them.
-
I've never actually been to Wolf Trap, but I know it has more than one venue. The Filene Center is the pavilion/lawn setup. I don't think it's as big as Merriweather, but I'm not sure of it's actual capacity, so I can't really gage this thing's likeliness to sell out. But Wilco seems to be heading up into a more public "Great American Bands" list, so who knows.
-
The 930 Forum post said it was revealed through an email to Wolf Trap members, so it seems to be set. And as for it not being the 8th, Wolf Trap's schedule doesn't have anything for that day at the Filene Center, which is where Wilco would play. I've heard Wolf Trap is a neat place to see a show. So I'm psyched for Wilco there.

According to a post on the 930 Club's forum, Wilco will play at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA on July 8th.

Captain Beefheart at SXSW w/ PJ Harvey
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to jff's topic in Someone Else's Song
How has no one pointed out that the article "cited" on that myspace blog (http://blurt-online.com/news/view/2062/) was posted on April 1? This is clearly not true. This would be pretty huge news to the music world. Beefheart is definitely not "well-known," per se, but him doing anything after so much ianctivity would be pretty big. -
Radiohead radio play..just a cawinkydink?
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to cracked doormoon's topic in Just A Fan
Umm, the Radiohead version had been around for quite some time before Tweedy covered it. Do you even need to ask if this is a coincidence?
