  1. Ha! Yeah, that one's my favorite so far.
  2. If you check out some storefronts on zazzle (example: the zazzle home of Twisted Acres), it looks like you can get any design on any color/size/type of shirt you want. Which I think is just fantastically cool. Also, you folks who are planning on designing something, keep in mind that there are different specs for designs to go on lighter or darker colored shirts ("thanks for another racist, hate-filled post"). So if you've got a great design, think about maybe adjusting the colors to be available for both.
  3. Yeah, I'm not too terribly concerned about that one, particularly. Also, I'm guessing the worst that would happen would be just having the design pulled from Zazzle. I'd hate to see anyone put good work into a design that couldn't be used, though. Just use your best judgement.
  4. Just ask around, this is my specialty.
  5. Dan, that's a good question. A quick peek at the Zazzle forums seems to indicate that all it takes is one copyright-infringement report to the management, and they'll pull the design. So for something that we're not sure about (anyone have any idea who holds the rights to carlos' monkey-with-glasses pic?), we may have to err on the side of caution. As far as quoting each other (and I'm guessing we'll get at least a few designs incorporating some choice words from past VC posts), obviously it would be best if anything like that was OK'd by the original speaker/writer of the words. We don't
  6. For some time now, VC has been ad-free, and we haven't had to ask you for any donations or subscription fees. While we've all enjoyed this state of affairs, unfortunately we've now reached a point where we are going to need some funds to keep the site up and running smoothly, and we'd like to do that without having to rely on any one person or group of people for funding. solace is currently exploring some new hosting/server options (he very graciously donates his tech-support time, we're so lucky there), and we'll let you know exact cost amounts as soon as they are available. But rather tha
  7. I've had Cod on my list for years. Loved his Basque book.
  8. The bus/streetcar is only $1.50/trip (one fare gets you a transfer good for up to two hours), and the cable cars are $5. The regular monthly MUNI pass costs $45, so the only way the City Pass is worth it is if you're planning to actually go to some the pricey attractions that it'll get you into. Don't expect to actually get to too many places on the cable cars. One or two rides on those are fun, but they're not necessarily the best way to get where you're going. As far as must-see tourist stuff, I really love Alcatraz. Also, the ferry out to Angel Island, and a walk around out there, wou

    Wilco DVD

It's buried in my beyond-lengthy review, but there are seven extras on the DVD.

Oh, right! Yes, I thought I remembered some discussion of that, but I forgot what the controversy was. No, in the movie, it definitely looks like he's saying it at the Ryman. I'll be interested to hear if other people who were at these shows catch any other bits of tricky editing.

OK, a few more things, in response to your posts: Paul, I would say the structure of the film is similar to Sunken Treasure, but it feels completely different. Part of that is just the difference between something focused on Jeff vs. the whole band, but I also got a very claustrophobic feeling from Sunken Treasure; despite the many beautiful performances in that, the talking-about-talking segments sort of define that one for me. Brendan Canty also mentioned IATTBYH, which he says was a great document of the band going through that period, but because he loves this incarnation of Wilco s

    Wilco DVD

OK, as promised, here is my supremely crappy "review"! Caution: spoilers!!! I'm going to start with the end, the Brendan Canty Q&A after the movie. He started by saying that part of the reason they made the movie, about a year ago, was because with the booming economy and rampant development going on throughout the country, they wanted to document a band playing in these great old venues which could soon be bought up and destroyed. Now, doesn't look like any of these places will be going anywhere anytime soon... One of the first questions asked was about the length of the movie, si
  13. Congrats on recognizing the problem, and taking steps to deal with it. Check in when you can.
  14. Yes, sorry, that is what I trying to say. The ferry/bus combo gets you to Napa, then if you want to see the countryside (aside from what you'll see on the bus), you would take the wine train through the Valley. The Wine Train is just a round-trip sight-seeing tour, with optional winery stops. Your other option, without a car, would be the ferry/bus trip up there, then just hanging out in the town of Napa. Which probably wouldn't be a bad day. Someone else may have a better way to do that trip without a car. I'm not the expert, by any means! Oh, or if you want to seriously booze it u
  15. Does she go on long trips, or short hops? For work, I fly semi-regularly to San Diego (just a little over an hour), and I think a Kindle would just be frustrating for me during that "please turn off all electronic devices" period. Also, I tend to have several bookmarks going in any given book (for maybe that one page where they describe the layout of a house, or the family tree, or for endnotes or whatever). Does the Kindle have something that works like that, where you can flip back and forth?
  16. Take it up with Greenspan. Obama knew from the campaign that Bill Clinton wasn't going to pull punches if they didn't agree on an issue, and Clinton's still got the option of saying nothing at all. If he's making a point of making that statement in public, which he seems to be, I'm going to lean towards believing that he means it, and he's not just kissing up to his wife's boss.
  17. Believe me, you will not meet a bigger socialist than me. My point is, for anyone who thinks that Obama is going spending-crazy with this stimulus bill, it's really not all that out there, at all. Alan Greenspan called Clinton "the best Republican president we
  18. Bill Clinton, who actually did balance the budget and managed to pay down at least some smidgen of debt, has said that if he took office in the circumstances that Obama is facing, he probably would have done what Obama is doing now.
  19. I think if there were any major changes to the building, it would have been news here. And at least as recently as whenever Google Maps street-view hit that block, it still looked pretty much the same.
  20. First off, A-man, I have not been past there recently, or not that I've noticed, anyway. It's close-ish to my house, but the other side of the park, so I don't pass it regularly. If you're going to Napa without a car, I'd suggest this: http://winetrain.com Otherwise, you're in the city of Napa, but you don't get out to the wineries. To get there, they recommend using the 511.org trip planner. It looks like your best bet would be the ferry from SF to Vallejo, then a local bus to downtown Napa (the whole trip will take 2+ hours). The ferry would be neat, but I'm guessing the bus wouldn
  21. I'm now closing this thread for sheer ridiculousness. (A Klinger shrine... really? If it was Colonel Flagg, I'd have totally let it go.) Anyone who wants to discuss the actual topic of the thread can start up a new one.
  22. There's a Rolling Stone review of it in this thread, and people are talking about attending the upcoming San Francisco ( !) and Chicago premieres, but it doesn't look like anyone from VC made it to Montana, unfortunately. At least, nobody's posted anything in that thread yet...
