  1. that's a real tough one and obviously i can't speak for you, but i do admire your sacrifice and i'm sure that your kids do as well. and congrats on dropping the weight.
  2. I haven't really thought it about it too much, but one thing is certain. I am gonna focus on losing some weight this year... being at an all-time high isn't where I want to be. after screwing up my knee, my fitness suffered accordingly, but my food and beer intake didn't. as Molina said "Now something's got to change" family and jobwise, i'm at a very good place and don't see any major tweaks to be made... one side benefit of my knee situation is that i didn't take many vacation hours last year, so i've got 5+ weeks to burn this year. gonna take advantage of that. on the photography front, i
  3. it's the worst. i don't think i'd ever say this, but i prefer the older layout.
  4. now the nation can see how terrible the Paradise stage lighting is.
  5. solid investment. Moody's has changed my rating from 'HOLD' to 'BUY'
  6. how many face lifts has Judge Reinhold withstood?
  7. it took a while but i finally heard Wilco again at the Gondola base at Loon (Heavy Metal Drummer).
  8. If there are any Wilco and GBV fans, we can call each other Tweed Kings
  9. two records were waiting for me when i got home today (ebay and discogs) http://www.discogs.com/Skeptics-Chowder-Over-Wisconsin/release/1442387 http://www.discogs.com/Bedemon-Symphony-Of-Shadows/release/3823590
  10. not sure if it is in what you are looking to spend, but I have used a Sumiko Blue Point for the last few decades (different ones) and have never complained about the sound.
  11. GBV at the Middle East, 2000. They played two shows in Jan and my 8th month preggers wife joined me for both of them. As always, it was a drunken, glorious mess. Some people flew in from the West Coast for the show, members of the Postal Blowfish mailing list whihc was my introduction to the internet acting as a go-between for like-minded fans. I joined it in '96 or so, back when admin Bruce Melendy manually compiled emails sent to him and sent out a digest. soon he moved to a Majordomo mail server and the community grew. I've met so many cool people from that list. Anyways, Ana (who would eve
  12. hmmm... this is a fun thread. gotta dig through my brain. Dead Kennedys at Lupos, spring of '85. After Verbal Assault and a few other hardcore bands played, it was the DKs turn. After a fairly long pause in the action, Jello Biafra finally got on stage and asked anyone who could play drums to DKs songs to meet him at the side of the stage. He then went on to explain that they hadn't seen Peligro since New Jersey so the show must go on. The band played a handful of songs w/ guest drummers (some good, some cut off within a few bars of the song and booted back to the crowd), Peligro strolls th
  13. No, he hasn't for a while now but there's still the plexi guard for Peter's drums.
  14. Bob Mould @ The Paradise Bob Mould, legend. What else is there to say? How about Beauty and Ruin being a worthy companion to his prior work, in both Husker Du and Sugar? Yep, it's true. And having Wurster and Narducy as your rhythm section is a surefire way to have your rock show locked and fucking loaded. Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats @ The Middle East The mystique of this band grew mighty quickly.... a barely released CDR that stirred the waters, a signing to Rise Above where Blood Lust made all your Sabbath dreams come true, and then Mind Control where the dystopian world became a co
  15. Reignwolf @ Newport Folk Festival It was nice to see a band bring a little bit of grime under the fingernails rock, a la Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, to the proceedings at Newport this year. I don't think it was a coincidence that before the show, the drummer came over to me and positively commented on the High On Fire shirt I was wearing. King Buzzo @ Brighton Music Hall Buzzo is well known as the leader of The Melvins, but he'd be flying solo for this tour... no band, no crushing Melvins songs via Crover et al pushing it through the audience. Nope, he was all on his own, with just a
  16. Godflesh @ Royale I'd seen Justin Broadrick perform as Jesu as well as White Static Demon but nothing was close to the power of Godflesh. Streetcleaner has such an iconic cover and the music has the strength to back up the imagery. Spirit Caravan @ AS220 Last year The Obsessed played MDF and this year Wino brought Spirit Caravan to life. Can The Hidden Hand be next? This was a great gig but also a bit of a weird one... some sound troubles and occasional crowd action set both Wino and Henry off, with threats to kill the sound man and a final push of the drums into the crowd only offset
