they only had one time out, though. by the time they snapped the ball for the 2nd play, wasn't the clock around 0:40?

if they ran on 2nd down and didn't get it, they would have had to pass at least once since they only had one timeout left. maybe they thought it was the element of surprise, since everyone seems to be second-guessing that decision?
