  1. "These Days" came to me first via Barbara Manning, then Jackson Browne and then Nico. She also covered "Soul of Patrick Lee" from John Cale, whose version I'd not heard. REM has a bunch... in addition to Pale Blue Eyes, Strange (from Wire) and "Academy Fight Song" by Burma. I first became aware of Chrome via the Jesus Lizard, with their 7" called Chrome (basically "TV as Eyes" and "Abstract Nympho" my brother had a Nugent record where he covered "I Want To Tell You," before i'd heard teh Beatles vesion. tons more i am sure. put down the The Clash for "Police And Thieves" too.
  2. congrats on boarding the Melvins bus. you're in for a quite a ride.
  3. man, if you don't like "Spiral Architect" I question your ability to like Sabbath. then again, my son's favorite Sabbath record is Seventh Star, so go figure.
  4. i don't like them, but i shot Vampire Weekend in 2008 at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. I think the room holds about 300-400.
  5. not seeing a band live, but last night i saw _One More Time With Feeling_, the incredibly emotive documentary about Nick Cave making his latest record in the wake of his oldest son's tragic death.
  6. Understandable. I guess this is Torche's last tour, according to Facebook posts I've seen from Steve Brooks. Bummer.
  7. I probably should have gone to the Lydia Loveless and Jonathan Richman shows. You should totally go see Torche and Red Fang this Sunday!
  8. i am actually pulling together a mental list right now. i've seen about 100 bands and at least four festivals, so while it's not as many as I usually see, it's still a lot. i'll get around to posting around the xmas break.
  9. No Tears Love My Way Forever Now Imitation Of Christ Pretty In Pink
  10. American Music Club Western Sky Outside This Bar Nightwatchman Last Harbor Heaven in your Hands i want to list 10 more songs.
  11. i took my kids and we had a blast. i figure i rarely pay for tickets, so i blew my budget in one fell swoop.
  12. so i paid a LOT of money for the Sabbath VIP tickets, even at the lowest tier. of course, getting excellent seats was a great aspect of it (something like 9th row center), but we also got to see the soundcheck along with about 50 - 75 other people. the first bit was the drummer doing a drum solo (hard pass), it ended w/ Ozzy coming out and singing "Iron Man," but the middle was an instrumental version of "Symptom" which pretty much made it proper value. Iommi is by far the best riff master ever, and it was pure joy watching him blaze through that.
  13. Boris You Laughed Like A Water Mark Dyna Soar Pink Feedbacker pt 2/pt 3 (or I could just list Feedbacker as one song, which it really is) Naki Kyoku
  14. totally. I even think "Supertzar" is pretty awesome. It could fit in a Jodorowsky movie.
  15. so many great songs i skipped over too... "Dylan In The Movies" and "Piazza, New York Catcher" were very tough omissions.
  16. Belle & Sebastian The Loneliness of a Middle Distance Runner The Stars of Track and Field Fox in the Snow String Bean Jean I Fought In A War
  17. how psyched were you when you first heard "Symptom Of The Universe"?
  18. The Dream Syndicate Halloween That's What You Always Say Tell Me When It's Over John Coltrane Stereo Blues Forest For The Trees
  19. does anyone else have the thought that Trump has hired Berlesconi as an adviser?
