obviously she is heavily indebted to her predecessors, but it's not the 70's or 80's, it's the 21st century, and we need a broader global village perspective. religion doesn't mean just the christian right, it can extend to mean muslims, jews, etc. : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-18073961 and i'm not even considering her as a musician or a rock star. I'm considering the media to be her medium. the 21st century media of the internet as well as the traditional mass media. she plays them all like an instrument.

Spin's 100 Greatest Guitarists Ever

Did they lay out some parameters that I missed? I agree there are lots of "lesser known" guitarists getting some props there (frith, quine, toure, Verlaine/Lloyd, Ribot) and while that is undoubtedly nice, any lists that omits Jimi Hendrix, Chuck Berry, and George Harrison simply can not be taken seriously. Also, they did not touch any country, blues or bluegrass guitarists and as they did not call it "100 best rock guitarists," it's just silly. edit to add: oops, i guess it helps to read the intro. -

Metal Machine Music - The Endurance Test
Ghost of Electricity replied to IATTBYB's topic in Someone Else's Song
This is what the liner notes from the box set claim, as well as say that lou was in a dispute with his label and owed them one record under their contract. pissed with them, he gave them metal machine music and moved on to what he really wanted to do next. i have the box set and have listened to the excerpt there but nothing more. -

Top 3 All Time Underrated things on music earth
Ghost of Electricity replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Someone Else's Song
technically, if the quality of X exceeds even people's high regard for it, it can be underrated. Just sayin'. -
reverse the last two and you're more or less in the same boat as me.

As far as I'm concerned, if you're not left wing then you are an extremist. -
A Central Depository For VCers Music!
Ghost of Electricity replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
well, as one band slowly wraps up its business (http://www.facebook..../app_2405167945) another one begins theirs (http://www.facebook....franksharddrive) There are new songs up for both. I guess I'm pretty lucky to be living in a place with such a vibrant scene that it's so easy to start up a new project. With Frank's Hard Drive (the new one) I'm doing guitar and a wee bit of lap steel, and though I'm not singing I do have a strong say in the songwriting. -
What was/is your favorite decade for music?
Ghost of Electricity replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
For me it's the 90's but this probably has more to do with me than the music itself. alas, i am human and cannot and will not seperate the music itself from my experience of it. -
88 isn't bad. I'll differ with some of the sentiments above and say that rather than being sad about his passsing, we should be celebrating his life abd contribution to music. Thanks, Mr. Skruggs, rest in peace. 88 isn't bad. oops. yes i knew that but accidentally omitted the word "not." i don't rate said record either, but think it's bad karma to give someone extra credit for negativity. anyway, A.M. is fantastic.
