  1. You vote with your purchases, and so when you buy a made in China gutar you are voting for child labor, human rights abuses, etc. I'm as guilty as all the rest. One made in China, one made in Korea, one made in Indonesia. All good guitars.
  2. i thought i made it clear that those do in fact enhance my enjoyment of it. i was just saying that these things can be heard if you listen for them. Like when Dylan flubs one of the lines.
  3. "Visions of Johanna" is my favorite cut on the record (usually), but the bass player on that track was clearly under-rehearsed. At least 3 times he comes in on the change too early, this can only be called a mistake. Mistake=flaw. Therefore, the album does not qualify as flawless. By no means does this ruin it for me, I prefer to think of it as a "warts and all" sort of thing that adds to the charm in much the same way that the organ coming in a half beat later on "Like a Rolling Stone" because the keyboard player (i should be able to use his name here, but dammit, my memory)wasn't sure
  4. "Flawlwessly" isn't the right word. Listen closely to the bass in 'Visions of Johanna.' You will get no argument from me about "brilliant," however.
  5. ...and Fender is a money grubbing corporation who bought Gretsch and is cheapening that brand. hopefully they won't run it into the ground completely like they did with Guild (note to self:check yer facts here). Vintage guitars are too expensive. Asian guitars are unethical. What is there left to play?
  6. it seems to me that Jeff's tome is more defined by the pedals than Nels' tone. "Hell is Chrome" solo could be nothing but the Prunes n' Custard, for example. With Nels' it's more about his hands: the flourish of notes and the (excessive?) use use of the ole' whammy bar.
  7. It was in 1996, I had just moved back to the midwest after having lived abroad for several years, where a friend had introduced me to the music of Uncle Tupelo. The name was familiar: I remembered seeing posters for them while visiting my girlfriend in Champaign at U of I. Unfortunately, never went to see them or heard their music until they had broken up and I lived, literally, an ocean away. But better late than never I guess. The previous summer I had been home in Chicago visiting and saw one of the bands that "sprung from the ashes of Uncle Tupelo" (at the time the phrase was excusabl
  8. Perhaps because there are plenty of us who do, in fact, "give a fat turd."
  9. Yeah, and usually I try not to miss an opportunity to mention Max, but I had to draw the line somewhere.
  10. You must have meant "this is a droll post," as this is how it was intended.
  11. Can't say that I'm overly crazy about "World Record Players" but I do think it's far better than the alternate suggestions put forward here.
  12. Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians- A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall Warren Zevon- Knocking on Heaven's Door The Replacements- Like a Rolling Pin Malkmus-Ballad of a Thin Man
  13. Is your name Ken? or maybe Leroy?
  14. and another thing: it's good to see Jeff and Jay up there at a time when times were good between them. Jay is missed.
  15. I think Phil has earned the right to do whatever he damn well pleases. Even (or especially) when he wears tie die shirts like that.
  16. and equally fair to contrast them by getting into the meanings of the lyrics.
  17. my brother will he happy to hear this. he's a former member. i think i'll go put on "sounds of romance, sounds of horror" right now.
  18. still revs Brian Ritchie up too (at least it did a couple of years ago).
  19. the solo records had crossed my mind too. but there are 6 current members of wilco, and only 4 kiss solo records, so it doesn't divide up... nels, in any event, would have to get "fractured mirror" (i can't believe i remember that)
