  1. relax. the fact that the man keeps throwing curveballs is exiting, but at first glance that's about the only thing i can see in the plus column. Dylan has always revered musical heritage, but the Andrews-sisters type choir and the whole bit? His sentiment for the 1940's/50's has traversed into the quaint and sappy. edit: oh, and merry christmas to you too.
  2. cool- hopefully Pitchfork's source is not this message board.
  3. despite the fact that tweedy has done a pretty good version of one of these songs, this album can not be covered in its entirety without either mangling either it, or the reputation of the band who would undertake such a herculean task, or, more likely, both. the material is simply too close to Dylan himself for anyone to be able to pull it off. It wouldn't ring true. Plus, who could possibly remember all the words to 'Idiot Wind?'
  4. Just think that record is more suited to the UT or early Wilco thing than where they are now. The rootsy/bluegrassy/country thing isn't one of Nels' stronger points. Check out the Yung Wu (a Feelies' side project) version of this song.
  5. Then I'm not sure if I'm interested. I'd rather hear the reunited Jayhawks doing it. They'd do better on the "Box of Rain" harmonies anyway. I'm changing my vote to "Trace"
  6. +1 and pleasepleaseplease can Jay Farrar join them for this? Maybe Max too?
  7. Speaking of birds, is "Blackbird" obscure? Come to think of it, there are a lot Beatles songs about animals.
  8. You guys are starting to remind me of the two old muppets who sit at the back and made snide comments. Only they're funny.
  9. what he said. Don't forget "She said, she said"(if that counts as obscure) and just in case Ringo needs some love I'll add "Don't Pass Me By."
  10. every star that shines in the back of your mind is just waiting for his cover to be blown
  11. hey, it works! thanks to all of youse on the other thread.
  12. Bee Thousand GBV Wowee Zowee - Pavement and speaking of which, I'd be on that damn Now Playing thread if I could figure out how to post a photo. Maybe I'm just stoopid.
  13. my wife (who's Polish) once thought the English pronunciation of this word was "anus" don't be dissin' on Max like that
  14. I listen to BBC all the time- usually the world service or 3 (classical, jazz, world), which archives lots of its programs so you can listen on demand. I'll check 6 out. thanks for the tip.
  15. Sticky Fingers 1971 Exile on Main Street 1972 Goat's Head Soup 1973 It's Only Rock and Roll 1974 Black and Blue 1976 Some Girls 1978 or Workingman's Dead 1970 American Beauty 1970 Mars Hotel 1974 Blues For Allah 1975 Terrapin Station 1977 Shakedown Street 1978. ok, so they seem to belong to 60s, and the output is varied. But crap, you can't say that all the good music came from the late 70s because the best of the stuff listed above is the early stuff
  16. note to self: must try this sometime ( but only once perhaps )
