Because it's pretty much the same thing
Synthesizer Patel replied to EL the Famous's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Wouldn't that just involve you believing there is a God, but also that there is no actual path to him which you can take during your lifetime. Otherwise as soon as you start thinking about wrongs and rights, and what God views as such, you're starting to step into the world of organized religion. Because you have to base those beliefs on someone else's teachings, or make up your own (which, again, is still organised). Personally, if I think there is any kind of higher power running the universe then I think he is uninterested in us, therefore what I do will have no effect on how he views me, -

I was only being a bit of a silly sausage with my comment. I'm ok with them trying to sound like U2 (or whatever it is they're doing), because ultimately they aren't them.
-
Don't say things like that - I really like House Of Cards, I don't want anyone trying to spoil it for me!

Yeah, they're one of my favourite folk bands - Gnarls Barkley sampled them (for all you fact finders out there). On The Shore (their second album is perhaps their best - sounds a lot like Fairport), but their first album is great too. I need to pick up the remastered version of On The Shore, as my copy is a bit weak sounding. Mellow Candle are another band people should check out if they are into english folk.

Yeah, he's pretty great at guitar. You might want to check out John Renbourn too, if you haven't already - I actually prefer him a little bit more on average to Jansch. And don't forget about Pentangle who are the band that both men played in. (Light Flight - The Pentangle Anthology is a good place to start with them, if you don't want to fork out for all their albums).

I didn't know this was coming out. Cool. Is it good?

Why Doesn't Anyone Listen to the Kinks?
Synthesizer Patel replied to Big Perm's topic in Someone Else's Song
Being English, I've always viewed that ban as a really good thing for their music (not that I grew up during it or anything), but you can certainly see how they quickly forgot about trying to appeal to a wide audience and just made great music. Maybe without that ban this would not have happened. I know that Ray used to sit by himself in his flat at home whilst everyone else was out partying, and wrote these songs, so if he was touring America he'd have had a hard time doing that. -
Yeah, I currently think it's one of the best things they've ever done. It's just got a really great swing and feel to it. Faust Arp is another track I like a lot too, actually.

I keep listening to House Of Cards by Radiohead, on repeat. I should really give the other tracks a bit more of a go.

Where were you to back me up in The Beatles thread when I said that? The albums that I'd say are essential are, as mentioned, Village Green Pres, Arthur, Lola, Muswell Hillbillies. I'd also say that Percy is a great album, as is Face To Face; and although I don't like all of Something Else, it's got a lot of brilliant songs on it (especially if you get the more recent reissue with the bonus single cuts & b-sides on it). Also, the first 3 have some incredible songs on them too. Then, I'm also a big fan of Soap Opera - if you can put up with the narration, the songs are fandabidozi -
That's my favourite song on the album so far too. I have to be honest and say I'm not a big Radiohead fan - I can listen to them, or not, so maybe I'm not the best judge, but I think it's gorgeous too.

i still haven't been sent an activation code. that's what you get for paying 46p for the album, i guess edit: got it now

Are The Beatles your favorite band ever?
Synthesizer Patel replied to Sir Stewart's topic in Someone Else's Song
Mind you, I did spell it wrong though. I meant "You're" I just think it sounds incredibly modern - and it really has some great sounding instruments on it -

Baby, Your A Rich Man is my favourite Beatles song. I never see anyone else giving it any respect - what's up with that? -

is this happening? and if it is, please tell me that Little George Martin, or whatever that son of Martin is called, is not getting involved in the remastering . . . i've always felt that the beatles music sounds rubbish on cd, and maybe now they are going to do something about that! -

I don't know. I reckon you've been spinning us all a line about what you think for some time now. This was your chance to finally own up and tell the truth, but you couldn't just go ahead and do it! Could you? P.S Where is the "They are good, but not better than Tha Band" option? -
The first album is a classic, but I'm not too bothered about getting their other stuff, really. I hope they've remastered it well, because the version of the first album I've got (which is part of a compilation - Vintage, it's called) is a bit too tinny sounding - maybe it's because of their sound, but it would be good to hear if they put a bit more bottom into the new versions.
-
yeah Interesting that all the best music released this year is non-RIAA. I think they need to start spending their money a bit more wisely in the future - some good A&R men might help for a start.

Nels didn't play on A Ghost Is Born, if that's what you meant in your first post. I'm listening on myspace right now, good bass and drum sound.

The moral there is: don't try putting Jamal in a box. He's so much more than that.

Rivanna Junction by Tim Barry Variable Bitrate = 212, 320bps = 106 on oink. Now we need to find out, somehow, how many of those people bought the album.

No, that's not it at all. But, I like what you've done there. I could also claim that maybe people don't want to buy the music on his label as much as they did a few years ago, seeing as how musical tastes change; and the fact that he is incapable of knowing how many people are downloading his bands music for free in fact makes his claims, at least, a touch questionable from a scientific point of view.
