  1. Pretty Darn Close -- Beach Boy Al Jardine On His New Solo Album, Plus SMILE We've heard this before, but maybe it will happen this time. I hope they don't do "any new recording" - just put the album out as it is. Some of it did come out officially on The Beach Boys box set. I guess I now know why I had this song stuck in my head yesterday: The Beach Boys - Wind Chimes Also, a great book: Look, Listen, Vibrate, Smile (Domenic Priore)

  3. I wonder if Ric got motivated by seeing those guys playing Cars songs with Todd Rundgren. One thing I think is weirder than these old bands getting sound alike front men and carrying on - getting someone totally outside the band's sound to be the new lead singer. Although, I suppose Todd fronting The Cars is not as weird as Bruce Kulick leading Grand Funk Railroad. I have not listened to The Cars in a long time. I don't think I am interested in any new stuff from them, really.
  4. I always get the feeling they have been forgotten when groundbreaking bands are mentioned. I still think the first album was the best. I had it on 8-track. Elliot Easton has been playing with Creedence Clearwater Revisited. There was also this:
  5. I find it odd that stuff like this is coming back - same with Paul Reubens and Elvira re-launching the characters that made them famous. I am also reminded of John Kricfalusi's attempts to do Ren and Stimpy again. I recall laughing at Beavis and Butthead back in the day, but I don't think I have any desire to watch such things again.
  6. There was an article on Billboard this morning about The Stones not touring, and it mentioned that U2 will soon hold the title of highest grossing tour in history. That is amazing.
  7. Pre-Order Vs and Vitology available in 6 formats:
  8. Yes. Too polished for my taste. I respect his work, I just don't care for it.
  9. I can deal with Sound of Lies, but not Smile. It's really a Bob Ezrin record. I've never cared for what that guy does to a band's sound. Anyhow, let's hope the new one is good.
  10. If the new album is not like Smile, or has more get up and go than Rainy Day Music I will be happy. I've never seen Gary play a Rickenbacker before. Is that an original or a new one?
  11. ckc - Thanks for posting. I've been reading this thread, and have noticed a lot of bullshit being posted. Don't tell we are now going to start posting references to Nazis. Mr. Emanuel served President Clinton and President Obama. And Jeff Tweedy is doing a show for him. All great men - who do great things. He is also a Democrat with guts. I don't live in Chicago, but if I did, I'd vote for him.
  12. Louris & Olson: the full Q&A It's amazing to me that their albums were out of print. I did not know that.
  13. The Jayhawks (Mark Olson & Gary Louris with Victoria Williams) - Lights
  14. I like Burn. I don't care for the last two, but Burn is ok. There is going to be some Rainbow re-issues also. I think I would only want Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, Rising, Long Live Rock 'n' Roll, and On Stage. I just saw this on Expecting Rain: Derek and the Dominos' 'Layla' Reissue to Feature Phil Spector-Produced Songs It seems to not have all the stuff that is on this version The Layla Sessions: 20th Anniversary Edition. Which I bought sometime in the mid 1990s. That live album kills the studio stuff anyhow.
  15. That reminds me - I meant to post this the other day. 'My Own Love Song', with Dylan soundtrack, gets North American distribution
  16. Also - about half the songs on Physical Graffiti are out takes. Although there are several exceptions - I often think a band is done after their first three or four albums. It could be this idea has to do with the length of time the band existed, the era they made records in, the genre of music, etc.
  17. I heard You and I at the end of the new NBC show Perfect Couples this week.
  18. I've never seen a source for this show. There are sources out there for the May 1st, May 2nd, and May 5th shows, but not the 6th.
  19. It would be nice to have that concert footage in non-bootleg quality though.
  20. Bob Dylan's Renaldo and Clara To Be Finally Released
  21. Jeremiah (TV series 2002-2004) I recall seeing episodes of this show years ago. It was originally on Showtime. I must have seen it on USA or the Sci-Fi channel. The whole run of the show is on Hulu.
  22. I don't know about that. It's his passion.
  23. That release could have more to do with Rhino, than The Grateful Dead. I read somewhere once that is one of the ways record companies are keeping the cd alive - by way of box sets and special releases that hardcore fans are going to buy. I think in the information for the Europe release, they said they were not even going to go ahead with the pressing unless a certain number were pre-ordered. It's almost like a Rhino Handmade release. I already own somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 hundred dollars worth of GD boxsets. I am happy these days just to go to Archive.org and listen to the sho
