  1. I like what John Prine did/is doing with his label "Oh Boy" http://www.ohboy.com/ http://www.furious.com/perfect/prine.html And I like that he signs other artists. I would love to see Tweedy/Wilco do something along those lines if they do leave Nonesuch, but in JT's recent Billboard interview seemed like they might be negotiating pie-slices: "Flash-forward to the present and Wilco have let their deal with Nonesuch lapse, reportedly because they’re poised to release their next album on their own label (at least that’s what guitarist Nels Cline suggested). But founding member and frontman
  2. Thanks for the link! I'm using the IPhone while on vacation and can't search topics with it.
  3. Anyone listen to it yet? How does it rate?
  4. I agree! And having their own label means they can mentor other artists not just creatively but in the business aspect. With a band like Wilco, I really would love to see this happen.
  5. Conducting a good interview is tricky work. I am watching this and not getting why people have a problem with this interviewer. His broadcast is for a general Canadian audience that probably doesn't know anything about Wilco or Tweedy, so I think he covered a lot of ground in a short time without being esoteric or pedantic. I much preferred this interviewer to the one from the CBS Sunday Morning piece. She was so gushy. But again, she was probably a good fit for her audience. Thanks for posting this. It is always great to hear JT wax philosophic. More please! I wonder who JT wou
  6. Just downloaded the updated board app today, and now it won't work. Error message says: "bad URL". Is it just me?
  7. Not you or this topic in particular, and I'm not saying the complaints are invalid. But everytime there's some new Wilco thing, there are people who feel disappointed. I actually feel inferior as a fan, like I should be wanting much more Wilco than what Wilco give. I wonder if my own Wilco threshold is too low.
  8. Collectively Wilco would probably have put in the same stage hours over the weekend. I didn't see the "2 headline performances" announcement before buying my tickets so I see how you would be disappointed about getting half of what you'd hoped for. But I look forward to seeing the members of Wilco perform in their own projects. It'll make me listen to Wilco differently, to hear the parts that make up the whole. I'm always surprised to see how many Wilco fans come here to complain about Wilco not doing things right, everytime Wilco does something new. But I enjoy reading it too.
  9. DANG! A day (or six years) late and a dollar short, again.
  10. I was sure the Festival was announced as being "curated by Wilco" and not "only Wilco." I tell my friends that this is a "Wilco Convention," like a Star Trek convention -- where half the fun will be being among other Wilco nerds. (That means YOU.) But that IS an interesting concept to have the band play for the whole weekend! I can't imagine any band having that kind of stamina, though. It was already pretty amazing to read about the 3 hour long shows some of you in the US got to see. It would make an awesome performance art installation, to have a band "perform" for a whole weekend
  11. My kids used to like the Wiggles when they were toddlers. We took them to one Wiggles concert, and I liked that it was almost all music and singing. They are a quartet and feel a little Beatles-esque to me. At the concert a lot of the little kids ran up to the stage quite instinctively, and all danced in a toddler mosh pit up front. Cute. Mine are only 5 and 7, and both love music. I'd like them to develop their own taste, but try to expose them to a range of genres. They like some of Woody Guthrie's , and . And we like the reggae on Maisy Mouse. I love hearing them humming tunes

  13. I've heard it said that every character who appears in our dreams represents an aspect of ourselves.
  14. Bringing this up again only because I wanted Noam Chomsky to have the last word. http://www.zcommunications.org/the-real-threat-aboard-the-freedom-flotilla-by-noam-chomsky Israel’s violent attack on the Freedom Flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza shocked the world. By Noam Chomsky Friday, June 11, 2010 Hijacking boats in international waters and killing passengers is, of course, a serious crime. But the crime is nothing new. For decades, Israel has been hijacking boats between Cyprus and Lebanon and killing or kidnapping passengers, sometimes holding them hostage in Israeli
  15. Chicken or the egg? Ad nauseum. I heard a preschool teacher say about a girl in her class that she doesn't always start fights but she always ends them. Maybe that's all that matters in any conflict. We can argue till we are blue in the face about Palestine. There are people who devote their lives to finding a resolution and are being paid to do it and still they can't come up with a viable solution. or decide who is right or wrong. It's great to be so unequivocally sure of one point of view. I believe killing the protesters on the flotilla was wrong. I am glad the pixies will bring a
  16. How many of those three centuries were they peacefully resisting and how many were truly violent? The Chinese would still be under Manchurian rule if they peacefully resisted. And nevermind the Americans who decided not to put up peacefully with taxation without representation. International pressure doesn't carry the weight it used to. There are too many conflicts around the world and everyone has problems of their own. I am not into war but I think at some point it is ridiculous to expect anyone should peacefully resist unwanted advances when there is no end in sight. Why don't the is
  17. Violent overthrow seems to have had more rapid success historically, however. (I live in the Irish Republic.)
  18. On the contrary -- listening to a song on continuous repeat for an hour has the same calming effect as saying a decade of rosaries or chanting the Lotus sutra. Why, I was able to listen to "I'll Fight" all the way to a reception at the British Ambassador's Residence this morning, where I had a very civilized glass of Pimm's with white lemonade. But this just in -- the Pixies are being called cultural terrorists by the concert promoter. After the announcement of the Pixies’ cancellation, Shuki Weiss, the promoter of the Pic.Nic festival, said in a statement, “I am full of both sorrow and p
  19. This is getting off topic and not adding to world peace. I'm going to listen to "I'll Fight" on continuous repeat for an hour.
  20. Isn't that how most countries do it though? Not that that makes it any better. So really war is when two countries send their poor and disenfranchised out to kill each other?
