  1. Would Wilco ever consider writing a song with references to an author who wrote a book that mentioned Wilco? or What did Mr. Tweedy think about the way he and his band were used in J. Franzen's novel "Freedom" to help characterize a fictional musician? Would any of the sextet talk a little about how it feels to know that "Wilco" has become a cultural icon, a signifier; and as such, the band's (and Jeff Tweedy's) name and likeness is now "public domain" to be bandied about on TV shows and films to conjure a specific sociocultural demographic. How do they feel about the way "Wilco"
  2. I like Wilco. Wilco is better than "Cats". I'm going to see Wilco again and again.
  3. I will be in the region geographically, but finances put me in a galaxy far far away. Tickets for Fuji Rock are US$230+ for one day, or USD500+ for three days. Wowza! I love Wilco so much, sometimes I temporarily forego lower Maslow needs like food clothing shelter to see them, but this would require yogic asceticism for at least a month.
  4. I beg to differ! Pat Sansone is Wilco's own hirsute contender. Bring it.
  5. The new album should be called "Betty Ford" with a lovely photo of the former first lady as cover art.
  6. I didn't get the whole hating on Bon Jovi thing. Is it just because he's from New Jersey? This was the quote in the papers: (MSN) Jon Bon Jovi is saddened that the “magical” experience of buying records in a store is disappearing, brick-and-mortars stores being eroded in part due to iTunes’ success. Bon Jovi tells The Sunday Times Magazine, “Kids today have missed the whole experience of putting the headphones on, turning it up to 10, holding the jacket, closing their eyes and getting lost in an album; and the beauty of taking your allowance money and making a decision based on the j
  7. From the Wikipedia entry on "ephebiphobia". "First coined as the 'fear and loathing of teenagers,' today the phenomenon is recognized as the 'inaccurate, exaggerated and sensational characterization of young people' in a range of settings around the world."
  8. Manic Monday - The Bangles Monday Monday - The Mamas and Papas
  9. Monday - Wilco Ruby Tuesday - Rolling Stones Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting - Elton John Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2
  10. I'd be curious what your committee decides on... Hope you will be able to post an update.
  11. For art, Markey Robinson's cottages series are worth checking out. The artists represented by the Oisin Gallery are all terrific. Browsing their image gallery might be a good place to start. http://www.oisingallery.com/ For architecture, the US Ambassador's Georgian-style residence was recently restored. Here is an article in the New York Times about the process. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/11/greathomesanddestinations/11gh-dublin.html The residence was built in 1776, and the United States pays the Irish government one US dollar annually for rent. I am sure if you contacted the US
  12. Lol. Maybe, say on average, a dozen shows a year, for 15 years would be 180 shows... Would that be closer to the mark?
  13. The movie "Killing Bono" just opened this week here in Dublin, to great reviews. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/culturevideo/filmvideo/cinema-trailers/8177126/Killing-Bono-trailer.html For contemporary Irish fiction, Joseph O'Connor has been getting great buzz among my cohorts in the comp lit masters program at Trinity College here in Dublin, as is work by Colm Toibin. Roddy Doyle's latest (children's) book "Brilliant," was the theme of the St. Patrick's Day parade in Dublin this year. For traditional Irish music, Christy Moore and the late Christy Hennessy (Christy is a male name
  14. I'll wager a guess... At least 80. That's including solo shows and festivals.
  15. Loving the blog! ("invaginary friend"... Teehee.)
  16. Hear, hear! I notice this with small kids too, that telling them NOT to do something that they hadn't thought of puts the concept irresistibly in their heads. Some folks forget they can video on their phones until someone reminds them not to use it. (Maybe this is a savvy way to get a new song to go viral, by forbidding it.)
  17. In addition to seeing this legendary guardian of set-lists at nearly every show I've been to in Europe and the US, I had a rare bbop sighting at a fish and chippery in Scotland last year before a Wilco show, but did not introduce myself. It's sort of "meta" that, not only does Wilco have fans, Wilco now has a fan who has fans for being a fan. Whoa!
  18. I totally agree. I'd much rather hear someone sing some Wilco on that show than those songs with the ubiquitous trills. Plus, dude is kinda good to look at. I like looking at him. (Are those teeth for real?) Apparently, after the show, McDonald tweeted that he was thrilled he got Wilco mentioned on AI. I also read that this was his third choice song for this show, the other two were "not approved." The TV producers at AI make watchable TV that appeals to the masses. True musicians among the contestants have to sell their soul somewhat to be on the show. I'm sure there is some St
  19. Mr Tweedy seems to eschew social media, having discouraged and disparaged users of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube at Wilco shows. Is he a bit of a Luddite? Or does he have loftier ideals? (Ie.: While the people of Egypt used these technologies to organize and overthrow a government, folks in democratized nations only abuse technology to broadcast idiotic minutiae and infringe copyright.)
  20. Sometimes I get the feeling that making a suggestion here on VC pretty much guarantees Wilco will NOT go that route.
  21. lol. Your word choice (using "Tweedy" and "bird" in the same sentence) = interesting.
  22. That sounds like the beginning of a Jack Handy soliloquy.
  23. Maybe it will console them if he plays "Spiders (Kidsmoke)".
