  1. This is so lovely. Thank you! The link to La Blogotheque says about this video: "Sometimes we tell ourselves that no, the band is too famous, too important, that their label would never let them do a Take Away Show. We have a fantasy list: Radiohead, Tom Waits, Chuck Berry, Cat Power. Wilco. They announced their date at Olympia in Montreal just after I had touched down in the city. Wilco, the band whose tours never stop in Paris. I bought a ticket right away; a good idea, as the concert sold out in weeks. And then I asked around. What if we tried to film them? The answer was unanimous and e
  2. Was there an APB sent via Wilcomail about the "raffle"? If there was, I must've missed it.
  3. Did it go wrong because of the Jay question? Or were there other awkward moments during the Q&A. That must have been fun! I can't imagine going to a concert where that happens. Did people raise their hands and get called on?
  4. Call or email the venue directly. The shipping charges are usually lower, or you can pick it up at the box office before the show with an ID. Europeans, amazingly, are often multi-lingual and can speak English pretty well as long as you don't lapse into esoteric American slang (ie. "score" tickets instead of "buy;" etc.) I've gotten tickets for Wilco shows in Spain, Sweden and for this one in Berlin by phoning/emailing and the customer service has been overwhelmingly friendly. (I meant to forward a ticket confirmation email to my BFF, and hit reply instead, so the venue emailed me an
  5. I just got this in an email from the festival director, confirming: It is an Irish exclusive so this will be their only Irish show and we had this confirmed by their excellent booking agent. So you still gotta come up the road to Belfast! Cheers, Kieran Kieran Gilmore Festival Director That's sorta sad for the floundering Irish economy, all these Wilco euros (including mine) floating north to the UK. I did my Christmas shopping down in the Republic, at least, so I don't feel so guilty.
  6. No way?! Where does it say that? Boo. I was half hoping there would be another date added in the Republic of Ireland.
  7. Apparently there was a technical problem with their site until around 10am today. Apology on the site says there are still early bird tix left. Got mine this morning. So happy. It will be a long (wet) summer in Ireland, waiting for Wilco!
  8. Any VCers going to the Stockholm show in May? I'm daydreaming about going, so am wondering whether Stockholm is a good place to spend a weekend in late Spring. What is the cuisine like? Is it easy/cheap to get around? Anyone know about the venue (Cirkus)? I guess I could check tripadvisor, but prefer the VC POV.
  9. I have the same exact daydream! Except it doesn't have to be on my birthday. And any song will do. When Wilco were in Dublin last year, I stood in the front row and imagined Vicar Street was my living room. That was almost a perfect dream come true, except for the other 1000+ people there, but I pretended they were my friends. I'm sure the Virgin Mary doesn't think people are "stalkers" just for having a shrine to her in their homes, or for having one sided conversations with her. And this is why it is perfectly okay that I have my Wilco shrine, where I light a candle when I pray
  10. The exact same Sponge Bob song backwards with different subtitles on screen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVOS2940Cxw
  11. Proponents of pareidolia would argue that having the supposed backward "lyrics" up on the screen encourages your brain "hear" those words. Here is an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsMtfOp6OPY But it's still a lot of fun to do, if you are bored and have the technology. Would love to know what "Not for the Season" sounds like backwards. If there are any hidden messages it HAS to be on a Loose Fur (Lucifer) album.
  12. Ever hear of the phenomenon of pareidolia? Here is the Wiki on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareidolia Some scientists think humans have a pattern recognition reflex, and that this is why we make out possible "words" from gibberish (dogs that say "I love you"), see faces on Mars, or Mother Teresa in a cinnamon bun. All art is Rorschach. Sometimes what we perceive is more about us than about what the artist's intentions are, no?
  13. Anyone ever listen to any of these songs backwards? In the olden days, didn't all the best bands hide their messages about Satan, etc., that way?
  14. Autumn is not a month. It usually lasts around three months. I don't know which Wilco or Loose Fur songs refer to Autumn specifically, but I can think of one ("Not for the Season") that mentions Halloween. Mainly about leftover candy, though, and not the devil. I guess Halloween might originally have had something to do with evil?
  15. Jeff Tweedy soundbite on camera at 00:30. http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2010/01/exclusive-interview-wilco%E2%80%99s-grammys-snub-band-member-reveal-why-they-wont-go-0
  16. Love Nels! (Hey, are you Nels' twin brother, Alex Cline?)
  17. That, they did. And it's not like they flew from Chicago just to play Dublin. They played London before that, I think. They still make WAY more money than I do, for sure.
  18. I started this thread sort of tongue in cheek, but seriously, the last time Wilco played here in Dublin, we were trying to do the math, and they really DON'T take home as much money as one would think. It was a sold out show at Vicar Street, which has a maximum capacity of 1500. And tickets were about 23 euro each, which works out to 34500 euro for one night. If you assume that each band member gets an equal share, that's about 5700 euro per Wilco, for that one night. But this is BEFORE taking out the costs for the venue, the tour promoter, the management company, their airfare, hotel,
  19. Yes. But there may come a point when I will have to take their framed photo down from where it hangs, next to the Pope's portrait, in the living room.
  20. Hope the clip will be up on the Wilcoworld website, like with the CBS Sunday Morning and the Colbert Report appearances, so fans outside the US can see it, too.
  21. Maybe the line is where artists cross over and become celebrities. That's when they start promoting THEMSELVES as a brand/product, and the art/music becomes secondary. I am not sure if it is a line, or a slippery slope. But if Wilco starts to sell themselves that way, I suppose I would enjoy their music in an entirely different way.
  22. Love it! You ought to copyright that idea and then get an animator to put together a pilot episode. When I was little and living the Philippines during the sunset of the Marcos regime in the early 80s, I used to watch "Beatles" cartoons on Saturday mornings. (Apparently, Imelda Marcos was a fan and once coerced the Beatles to meet with her by sending armed guards to "escort" them at gun point to her palace!) I knew all the lyrics to every Beatles song by age 9. Serious! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gSed1ZyGs4
