AmericanaramA Concert 8 - Cincinnati, OH 7/6/13

I think your money's safe, man. According to Mikael Jorgensen he hasn't even MET Dylan yet. -
Thanks! I'm hoping to make it by around 2pm. All depends on whether my wife can get the previous night off from work.
-
Good to know. I'll snag one early even if it does mean holding the damned thing all night. Very excited for the MA show. After watching from the back at Solid Sound due to having the kids with us, we're looking forward to getting up close. Speaking of that, does it seem like a lot of people are opting for Bob's "Hot Ticket" thing that allows early entry to the pit? I'm trying to decide how early we should get there & if it's worth the wait.

Mr Jeff Tweedy is full of a kind of human milk for sure!

I might - do you have a Bea Arthur type voice? -

Ok, listening to the Roadcase of Friday's show, I can clearly hear a male voice shouting "Welfare!" after Waterloo. Which one of you guys was it? -
Yeah, it should be great. From what I've heard Brendan Canty is doing it, and I love his work.
-
If anyone's on the fence about buying those shows - they sound fantastic!
-
Great! I'll be downloading these tonight. I was just listening to my rip of the radio broadcast today at work & was really hoping they'd make it a Roadcase show. It's a pleasant surprise that they're releasing the Friday show too - I figured there might be publishing issues with all the cover tunes.

It's this whole Paula Deen thing. It's tearing me apart! By the way, could you have found a more obscure Star Wars reference? I actually had to google that, and I'm no slouch when it comes to Star Wars (he said before skulking away in shame).

You wound, Lamrod. You really do.* Well I guess you guys have all embraced the dad rock title. So be it. Given the demographic here, I didn't think my stance would be so controversial, but there it is. * I have no idea what a "captain needa" is.

So sorry for lowering the tone with the "inane discussion". I'll let you get back to the serious business of commenting on a rock band's fan site.
-
It may be used with humor around here, and that's fine with me. I should have made it clear that I meant when it's used dismissively by non-fans. I know it's silly and pointless to bother arguing about it, but for some reason when I hear that phrase I get a mental image of some guy in khaki pants, dockers and a pastel polo shirt grooving to Jimmy Buffet. But that's my El Guapo, I guess.
-
No one would listen to it, because "You're not my REAL favorite band!".

Someone's got Daddy issues...
-
Agreed. I consider it very poor etiquette to put chairs or especially blankets anywhere NEAR the stage, and flat-out obnoxious to not put them away before the show starts. I love standing up front and always try to, but this was our first show with the kids in tow, so we stayed back up on the hill with most of the other families. It was a nice change, actually.

Absolutely. I'm hoping for something similar in MA next month. -

It's really not. Saw it firsthand at Newport last year. They played it flawlessly, but that song needs a more dramatic atmosphere. -
Actually, I wasn't addressing you - I had assumed that you were joking. After all, why would a 37 year old Wilco fan be using that term? Self-loathing?

Nice that they're mixing up the setlists! Thanks for the updates! -
Not upset. Annoyed. I reserve the right to be annoyed when something that's a huge part of my life is denigrated by morons. I don't lose any sleep over it, but I'll call someone out on it if they use that term. Thanks Joe.

Exactly. You know, I've noticed a common trait amongst those who throw that insult around - they tend to be douchebags. I'm 43. I've been playing and listening to music obsessively since I was a kid. I've seen more shows of more genres than most, and I've been a Wilco fan (and U.T. before that) since my mid-twenties. At 39 I became a father and now it's "dad rock"? Sorry, but Fuck Directly Off.

Oh, I'll probably stay for at least a couple songs. I'll be interested in the extent of any guest appearances. Most bands who've toured with Dylan say they never even got to meet him, so inviting any Wilco members to actually play with him would be a big deal. By the way, I thought you guys were going to have a table at S.S.? I looked but didn't see any signs. I did meet a couple of great VCers, though (looking at JCamp and Heliotropist). -

Don't misunderstand me - I LOVE Dylan (well, old Dylan) - but I saw him live about 23 years ago and he was bad then. Not just a little bad. Train wreck bad. Since then I've just enjoyed the records and left it at that. I agree with your thoughts on his influence & legacy, but I have to question the "gallantry" of decades of overcharging people to hear him play unrecognizable renditions of songs I love. Also, if the tweets I'm reading are to be believed, he's not even playing guitar any more. Just standing there. I'll give him this, though - he picked two formidable openers. I sure as hel
